Haha!! Vicarious and victorious are very different.
The concept of being vicarious and/or living/experiencing something vicariously, is an extremely interesting human trait, and comes in different forms.
Vicarious - experienced in the imagination through the feelings or actions of another person.
A few examples:
Empathy - This is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. - Say your best friend's aunt passed away and comes to you for support/you offer to console and support. Even though you have never met their aunt and have 0 personal/emotional connections to their aunt, you can relate/understand your friend's sadness, which is making you feel sad(even though you're not the one in mourning). You are vicariously experiencing (in your mind/imagination) your friend's emotions of loss.
Empathy works with positive emotions as well. When you see little kids laughing/smiling/playing, it vicariously makes you feel like you're a kid again making you feel happy/joyful.
For a guy, the easiest way to understand this is, when we see another guy get smoked in the nuts and we feel that "phantom" pain. Even though you didn't get hit, you experienced the pain and feelings in your imagination, through feeling and actions of the guy that actually got hit lol You vicariously experienced a nut shot 🤣
This song however, is about how humans are obsessed with watching/hearing about negativity and tragedy of others, as it is very thrilling. Humans want that thrill and shock, as long as it is happening to someone else. This is why so many people watch crime/murder, suspense/thriller and gore/horror shows and movies, as it is captivating.
Mainstream media/news outlets take advantage of this. Everyday, the news is filled with tons of articles about murder, disaster, human suffering, scandal, slander, and only one or two feel good articles/stories.
Millions of acts of kindness go unnoticed every day, and not a single person thinks twice about it when seeing it. But, right when something bad happens to someone, or when someone is acting negatively, a crowd gathers to watch.
This explains that one line in this song:
"I need to watch things die, from a distance. Vicariously I, live while the whole world dies."
Humans are so addicted to feeling the thrills of negativity, that as long as they themselves aren't in danger, they will watch the whole world die. Watching tragedy is like a drug, and humans fiend for that high.
He is calling humanity out. Humans are voyeurs to tragedy. It's a sickness, how humans would rather watch a mother lose a child over a mother and child happily playing.
