      As a contractor most homeowners like her "learn" how to do it the right way by discovering bad work and then doing research when they realize something is off. For example, they get curious is drywall really is supposed to crack, and then they look it up. She's also likely had a professional come in since then and is basically reading notes.

As a matter of fact, most of the jobs I have lined up through end of 2022, including the one I'm working on (entire house reno--bedrooms, bath, kitchen, dining and living room) were started by a different contractor. So many shady Contractors out there given us, the good one, a bad reputation. :(

    You gotta do some of it. Or at least hire the contractor for each job. You gotta go buy all the hardware yourself.
    When I started my renovation, I ended up hiring for each specific job and helped. I spend a few tens of thousands to purchase the tools, also. That’s how I became an owner of Woodpecker and Festool.
    A professional mason contractor can pour leveling concrete to level out the floor. So that’s not a problem. If you hire a general contractor to do them all, it would be a couple of hundred grand now with all the damage. You need to hire the specialist for each unfortunately. And you must put in the work yourself. Looks like a few months of work ahead of you.

    I've learned to never pay up front or let work start without specific paperwork and exact contract details. You could have caught his non sense in a stage one of a section. Never too much at one time because you need to see the quality in bite sizes and then move on. Don't let them decide the renovation details to you. I've done this hasty stuff with other things and know better now. I left our old house alone and still find that every time I try to fix an issue, it bites me with a surprise issue and it just gets stupid. No old houses from here on out!

    • @SteelRhinoXpress
      @SteelRhinoXpress 4 года назад

      Many contractors require a down payment of some sort before starting, to give them a safety net incase the consumer doesn't pay. That way the contractor can stop the project before they get deep into it. It's smart to use the ''pay as you go method'' in these types of cases for both contractors and consumers. If i have multiple projects that need done. I'll only agree to pay for the projects that have been completed and looked over first.

    The French doors is somewhat normal. I don’t do it but I’ve worked for company’s that do and they use shims to shim the door and run screws and then pull the shims. Usually latter on the casing will give the door its strength so long as it’s fastened to the stud and the door.

    • @dirkg7062
      @dirkg7062 2 года назад +1

      Plus the gap between the door and wall is way to big

    • @PerkBuilders
      @PerkBuilders Год назад

      A quarter inch gap is essentially EXACTLY the gap that should be there. Rough openings on a door that width will generally be 1/2” on each side, to align and plumb and allow for expansion/contraction. No shims: I don’t like that at all, and I’d have at least three more screws on that side as well. The gap gets spray foamed. This is simply how a door is installed. A couple of the things mentioned in this video seem to be a product of inspecting things that are halfway done, like this door. I don’t like leaving a specific task til it’s complete but on a job like this there’s always 25 things going on at once. Maybe didn’t have foam on site that day. This is an incredibly messy job, and I can’t believe those beautiful floors are wide open! Jesus.

    Home owners lack of research caused this to happen. Do your research people. Don't take low ball offers. look at the avg cost of remodel jobs that you want done. Read user reviews on the companies you're looking at. If you live in the U.S. go to the Better Business Bureau website and get information on the companies that your looking at. Once you pick a company ask for copies of their license, permit and insurance and look over them before you finalize any paper work. Lastly, higher a qualified home inspector to look over the progress of the work.

Because your wiring in your ceiling is placed below your header and Joyce's therefore when the drywall is apply to the ceiling you risk the chance of the wiring getting pinched and punctured by nails or screws hence causing a fire that's why you would fail inspection. Just a wild guess but you got three bids... One for $48k, one for $41k and one for $8k...

    I bet the door and tub were from a previous job. My house is full of doors, windows, and even a fireplace mantel, that was salvaged from previous jobs albeit I got them for free. People throw away perfectly great stuff, and I like to recycle, but THIS is complete BS!
