After playing some more with this monitor, there is an important note about freesync: Freesync comes off by default on this monitor. If it is acting weird for you then use use the "Reset" OSD option to reset it. I got it into some weird state messing with the OSD and only reset cured it. Without freesync on the response time is good, great even, for an inexpensive monitor. However the panel in this display is (I think? not sure?) designed for MPRT at 165hz so.. in freesync mode the panel always runs at 165hz and buffers at least one full frame before displaying whatever frame you send it. Meaning that for every frame coming in via freesync it waits for at least one full frame before dumping the buffer. This can introduce input lag. I also didn't fully realize at the time what was happening, but that overdriver setting? it added additional input lag for me and that's part of what I was "feeling" that made me turn overdriver off. It defaults to 'low' when you turn freesync on. For me that added 10+ ms even more input latency. So as I said in the review, I don't recommend overdriver and be aware of how this panel behaves with freesync. This isn't the first panel we've seen that behaves like this but I'll call that out a lot more explicitly next time now that I know how to look for that kind of thing specifically. Still a decent gaming value at the $200ish pricepoint -- but be aware of the freesync limitations.
I feel better after watching this review. I got the same Monitor from Amazon, istill in the box unopened, waiting delivery of Asrock Phantom 6950 xt. Thanks Wendell
I miss when MonoPrice was more active 4-5 years ago. Wendell I have a request only because my wife is interested in this monitor and on paper seems extremely impressive. If you have the opportunity please do a review of the Pixio PXC348C 34 inch 144Hz Ultrawide monitor. My wife does some gaming, Switch and emulation gaming, but also is an avid knitter and creates all types of dolls and needs a good multi-tasking monitor that has good color reproduction for posting pictures of her dolls
i bought a pixio in 2019. after almost 2 months the power supply died on me. they dont warranty anything except the lcd panel itself. i would not give them your money at all. also it didn't have a power button, which is pretty strange.
Great review, thanks! I actually got to this video because I've been trying to find a side-by-side comparison review of the PXC227A Curved versus the PX227 Prime Flat IPS. They both seem like great monitors, though the inputs are flipped. I'd love to see the strengths and weaknesses of each on the same page.
I really wish it wasn't curved. I can't stand curved screens and the curve is so shallow here I can't imagine who this is for. I'd love to know if there is a flat version because everything else about the screen seems perfect.
Yeah I would like to know what you think of that VA vs TN vs IPS. I have an older IPS 1440p with gsync and have been looking to move that to replace a 1080p TN (24") and get another 27" 1440p
I wonder if it has less black smearing because it might not technically be a VRR monitor. Would enabling free sync and low overdrive be the equivalent of just enabling vsync in game? Which option would be better or worse when it comes to input lag?
As much of a bargain as these monitors seem all 3 of my QNIX monitors (27” QHD and 32” 4K) and all 2 Shimian 1440P monitors failed after 2-4 years of use. Perhaps the electronics have matured since but it’s certainly an issue for many early adopters of these small Korean brands.
Still using a qnix 1440p monitor for almost a decade now (though they only have DVI, so I had to get an adapter to use with modern GPUs), might pick up a newer monitor for higher refresh rate and better colours.
Thanks for replacing Paul's hardware without all the dumb f'd up politics and bald short guy anger. It's so important to have someone that can connect people with affordable performance in an honest pragmatic way. Even better that you're not blind to the existential threat posed by tech overlords.
My wife got tongue cancer. We had to lose our jobs and travel to mass for her treatment to save her. I have spent the last 6 months by her side 24 hours a day.. We are broke and in massive debt. No jobs and I had to move her into her grandmas filthy basement. I spent a week cleaning it out at sterilizing everything. I now have to leave her here and go live with my sister due to no job and thousands in the hole. I could use a little help guys.
The truth is you don’t know what you’re missing until you try 1440p or 4K over 1080pb🥳🥰😱💪👍. But admittedly 1080p for many titles still looks amazing at higher quality graphics settings 🥰🤤🤤🫠

With every new video, Wendell looks better and better. I’m so glad he’s taking care of himself and putting himself first. Keep it up!

Another grown up tech review with a common sense perspective for people who are 35 and older. Thanks Wendell.

I am using the prior model of this monitor. It has been awesome since I bought it in Feb '21.
I HATE CURVED MONITORS. I have a Pixio PX329. It still runs well and I want another straight panel.

I liked the story about elder guiding the youth into the world of monitor arms.
Part of Wendells origin story is in this video ...
poderia disponibilizar o perfil ICC deste monitor??

I hate that there isn't a market for 1080p60 OLEDs or just 4k60 monitors. Not everyone wants fast refresh rates

pixio is a chinese company claiming to be US based because they lease a 12x12 room in a building.
@@jmwintenn oh, that Chinese capitalist sigma grindset...they're trying to be even more ruthless and unethical than Americans! =^_^=
i7-12700 is not exactly cheap. Did you mean the i5-12400? The 12400 is whats showing on your screen.
Woot!
You are old, but are you Korean qnix monitors on eBay old?
Anyone remembers wasabi mangos :p

I'm betting these things never fail, man hardware quality was so much better in those days.
I've got an Mbest 27" 1440p 165Hz IPS monitor from South Korea, circa 2018, still works great.
That origin story was wholesome.
"Ain't that a pretty picture"?!?! 🇺🇸 😎👍☕

6600XT: I'm a 1440p-ish.
Hogwarts: Crucio!!!
VRAM: That's hurt. 😅
It's pronounced like veysah not visa
I had to ask but I know no one will.
Thx
