I Bought a Wrecked Silverado to Build an 8 Second RACE TRUCK

- I bought a wrecked '03 Silverado so I can build the ultimate 4x4 drag truck. I plan on building the ultimate big block 4x4 drag truck and I already have a great engine, but until today, I have no truck to put the power plant inside. So to fix that, I bought a wrecked '03 Silverado extended cab, and we're gonna transform this bone stock wrecked truck into an 8 second 1/4 mile ripper.

what do you think for the S-10? Should I use this perfectly running 5.3 or sell it and find a 6.2?
5.3
5.3...for now 😅
❤ wanna trade ? Ive got a running driving 6.2 I'd trade for a running 8.1 with a 56 tooth on it.
That's y he has 2 8.1 L engines
@@williambranco7710 I want to swap my chassis to an 8.1 for this particular truck. Hence the deal. Love the 6.2. But I want a different power band.
$2,750 for a used truck from IKEA? Sounds like a pretty good deal. I also like the idea of keeping the interior looking as stock as possible. It's more of a challenge, but the cool factor grows with each stock appearing/working feature you retain.
As I young man I always stripped anything off the vehicle that wasn't required , I bought a 79 chevy full size wagon , long story but the dragstrip was only 2 miles down the road, I was able to weigh the car with me on the scales at 2850 , I had a blast with that car
LT, I see you as the king of the GMT800 platform. I'd be cool if you had different themes for each truck. I.e Lifted, Baja, Street/strip, Slammed. Would make great content for all silverado fans in all communities!
S10 for the 5.3 for the WIN!
Very excited for this build, I think a 6.2 would be gnarly in the s10 but you've already got that 5.3 that sounds like it runs great.
That’s my favorite blue on the Silverado, as well!
The 6.2 liter with the truck intake manifold really lays down the power at any RPM. I think you already know this LT, LOL. 😁
Man finish that s10
I'm with you on a lot of it. Drives me nuts when truck beds are rendered unusable. You gotta keep the AC though.
sad to see the drag truck as a cateye bubble eye is just the best
That’s a pretty easy fix on that cab. Ok, maybe not “easy” for most, but I worked as a bodyman for years, and when I see trucks as nice as this get totaled for that, it gives me an anxiety attack! Lol. Couple hours of work, and good as new….
Sell that 5.3 and go with a 6.2 all day. There is no replacement for displacement!
Words to live by
Yup or make the 5.3 a 383
He has a 8.1, that’s a lot of displacement
So you believe selling that 5.3 will pay for a 6.2? 😂 It most definitely won't. In fact it would make more sense for him to use the 5.3 in the S-10 and do a turbo build. It'd make more power than a N/A 6.2 build. Also because he already have the 5.3 and trans from donor it would be cheaper and quicker to do the project.
Displacement don’t matter with bad head design
If you are gonna throw the 5.3 in quickly then use it. If the S10 is waiting for the race truck to be done, chunk the 5.3 and get a 6.2 when the time comes.
6.2. Can’t wait to see more.
I think it would be super cool to put a budget 5.3 in the s-10. Still plenty of potential for big power
I love that you will actually talk money. Real world no B.S. I appreciate that LT. Thanks for the videos.
Been waiting on this build. And MOST DEFINITELY PUT THE 5.3I. THE S10😊
I've got a 99 zr2 s10 5 speed manual with a 5.3 liter. I wanted to do it right, so I built a brand new engine, bored 30 over, with a comp cams XFI RPM xr275hr cam kit, complete with valve springs so nothing would be mismatched. One of the brand new valve springs broke around 14k miles, swallowed a valve, and trashed the block. Summit racing had brand new blocks for $350!! Started all over again, but this time left the block the standard bore and had to buy new pistons. This truck cost a fortune, but dang, its a blast to drive!!
Keep up the good work LT! You never seize to provide good content and keep my motivation going to go out and turn my own wrenches! Thanks for that! Just like you, I also have a sweet spot for these GMT800's, just something about them... Looking forward to the next update!
Gotta agree on painting it that blue. That's classy.
If you were to tub the rear wheel arches you could cut the bed in a way that cuts out that damage and make it look like a factory floor.
yay it moved!
The black bed was probably from a 3/4 ton originally.
LT you have to see the bandit truck being built in my hometown..go to legendary concepts...or legends of mount pleasant...they are building a 700hp bandit Silverado
Hey LT. Really looking forward to the rest of these builds. I don't know why but, I'm looking more forward to the S10. Never been a huge fan of S10's but, I like where you're headed with it. I sent you an email regarding vehicle shipping. I realised it could be taken in a way I didn't intend. Just wanted an opinion from someone I respect.
Lt instead of doing all the body work yourself on the bed, get with a local body shop and trade work. When I did dealership work especially for GM and Toyota. I would see that a lot. We would trade labor with body shops. Just an idea.
My favorite color fore sure
My favorite paint was on the OBS Silverado, the blue/green color changing paint.
Man, You should make a Road Race Silverado one of these days! lol...thats a project I haven't seen anyplace yet.
Before you replace the headlights that are on this truck a mixture of vinegar and baking soda will make them look like new.
I vote for painting the truck that blue
I’d be interested in the complete 5.3 for my 85 k5 blazer project
I can drive to you to pick it up, I’m in Kingman Az
Toss a vinyl bed cover on and use all that space for a nice 4 link/lowering and all those odds and ends like the battery and ice tank.
Use the 5.3 get all the little kinks sorted out and get the s10 running perfect then build a 6.2 and just swap later and then sell the 5.3.
Not gonna lie I would love to see you buildup a 5.3L for the S10.
6.2 would be sweet too
I think you can use it for now because you know it runs good. Put it in the s10 to get the swap figured out. Then sell it when you find the right engine. Then compare the performance upgrades between all the engines, it would make good video content.
6.2L would be good, but not cheap, I’d throw the S10 together with the 5.3L for now
Love that blue...
Put a 99-02 front clip on it!!!!!!!
Glad someone else goes for the OE look. I way prefer the stock stuff too, compared to the aftermarket gauges especially, look so tacky to me. Give me the OE goods (and hide the cool shit)!
5.3 is plenty of motor especially in the small truck. If you need real power it’s a turbo kit away. Could have a turbo 5.3 for the cost of a stock 6.2.
LT im here in castle rock i find flip mostly gmt800s i find these trucks with blown trans for 1000$ in nice condition but i have heeps of parts if you need. clusters door panels seats etc.
Great video keep it up😊👍🙋
My favorite color is blue so you got my vote buddy
Yes, I want to watch the 6.2. I want a 6.2 in my 2004 yukon xl quadrasteer
Just find a good step side bed. They're unique and plastic, so way lighter than your current bed
I hope you're doing the round headlights in the wagoneer. I know the later ones had the h4 or whatever they were boring regular bulbs.
Hey lt. I got a 2500 suburban with a 6.0 4l80e 4x4 that would work perfect in the s10. Runs and drives great. The body is rough.
You should at least keep heat/ defrost in the race truck. Much easier to move on cold days. Early and late season events you may need defrost in the morning.
Get a custom made cluster for that truck that goes up to 140mph and 7k rpms
Sheesh that wagoneer has a 1ton worth of springs 😂
Unless that's an L33 aluminum block 5.3 I'd go for the 6.2
Sell the 5.3 go and find a 6.6 L8T and show GM the truck the new Colorado’s could’ve been! (And don’t tune it for anything other than factory 87 octane just to show the capability without need for premium ie 6.2L)
You MUST be donating money to the cause
Yup they best color. Ford blue, the only thing Chevy did right!
I’m interested in the 5.3 for my truck
What year is the S10? Unless you want to swap to 58x, I'd keep the 5.3 or put a 6.0 in it. 6.0 LQ9 with 821 or 823 heads would be nice. The 5.3 will make good power also but lot as much as the 6.0. All these folks yelling 6.2 need to see what it actually costs to secure a 6.2. Want gen 4 rods in the 6.0? Late 2005-2006 6.0 will have the Gen 4 rods. Or any year LQ9 will have them also.
Did I miss the video about the broken exhaust bolt repair on the Wagoneer?
Arrival Blue is my favorite color ever as well! So many colors these days are so bland and muted.
Couldnt u use the inside metal from a tailgate to patch the bed 5th wheel hole? Thought u may have a spare (if its molded the same)
Here to add my vote in a 6.2 or maybe even a 7.0 if it were to pop up for a decent price
No room at the shop for a shipping container to store vehicles in?
Ditch radio and speakers, don't need tunes to race
I would be totally fine with the 5.3 in an s10. You on the other hand would want to go crazy with it. Just stick to your guns and get the 6.2. That S10 would be nasty with that in there!
It’s a race truck. Ideally, you’ll want to lower it a ton, meaning that hole in the box is going to,get replaced with a raised floor and wider wheel tubs anyways.
anyways…… I wouldn’t stress over it
Wish i had that dog house.
If the motor mounts and everything for the 6.2 are the same as the 5.3, put the 5.3 in the S10 to mock up and drive until you find the 6.2. then all you'd have to do is do a mild build on the 6.2 if you wanted, and swap motors and tune.
LMAO. Depending on the year of that S10, a 6.2 is easier said than done
LT, what happened to the Mustang project
Please do a 6.2!
I could use that driver seet
What about the water leak on the Wagoneer?
LT what do you want for that front seat???
Wagoneer coolant leak fixed?
G,day from Sydney Australia. What is the definition of LS engine?
🌏🇦🇺
It’s the overarching term for the GM Gen 3 and Gen 4 small block including the 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, 6.2
Hey LT, why not stroke that 5.3 to make it a 383? It’d certainly be unique, and that would net you 6.2l.
I’m thinking that even after you got a used 6.2, you’d have to go through it anyway. Thus, either way you’re going through an LS engine for the S-10, so you’re looking at similar amounts of labor.
You don't HAVE to go through an LS. Especially if it runs good and has oil pressure. 5.3, small cam... Boom...
@@jaydubb71 indeed! I agree with you. I’m was suggesting based on his desire for a 6.2, but also wondering if a stroker 5.3 would generate interest among viewers.
How much for that intake tube?
So this is instead of the 4wd big block and instead of ugly truck? Where's the mustang?
This is basically a parts truck for the 4wd big block project
Go with the 6.2L.
Orange horses🤣
Race truck needs dual anti-gravity batteries
Hey man, love your channel and what your doing. I have some extra bed floor and I can cut that brace out, let me know if your interested? I'm building a AWD turbo Silverado SS single cab on my channel to, check it out. I have about 1100 in my body so far.
Wow u stole that whole truck setup
Obviously someone isn't a football fan.
Keep the factory ac. Thanks me later
6.2L for the S10.
if its supposed to be a race truck, make it a race truck, dont keep stuff you really don;t need.
Turbo v6 for the s10
Make the 5.3 a 383
Legos for men
5.3 and increase the bore& stroke
I’d bore out the 5.3 30 over
5.3 all day...6.2 is a waste of $$$
How much for that 5.3
Buddy, pal.... Lol I can use that hvac control module. And the blend door actuator and the recirc actuator. And why can't you be closer.... Lol
