For the record, the owner LOVES it! It is EXACTLY the sound we were hoping for, and the excruciating attention to detail is something I both admire and appreciate.
In response to several of the other comments, this Jeep is being purpose-built as a family trail rig for occasional trail rides, camping, and light overlanding. Not a rock buggy or high-speed desert racer and not a daily driver or tow rig, but also definitely not a trailer queen or mall-crawler. It has an "RV" cam to maximize low-end torque rather than 6000+ rpm hp gains. We'll likely have a custom rear bumper built later to add a receiver hitch and anchor points, as the auxiliary rear fuel tank & skidplate interfere with stock hitch dimensions. After it is rolling and safe, the plan is to address bodywork (in addition to rust, it was once parked too close to a structure fire), and suspension updates/upgrades. Hoping to make some memories with the kids and keep it running long enough to pass down to them someday.
I like it. More importantly it appears that the owner likes it. That’s going to be a nice ride! Growing up our pastor drove a Cherokee. My father took care of it for him. It required quite a bit of attention outside of routine maintenance. This setup is going to be solid and last.
Sounds good! On my 2006 Silverado 6.2 ( yes bored 6.0) Ls I put a magnaflow dual 3in inlet and outlet muffler almost straight through that crosses in the center, pretty much welded in place of the stock 3in exhaust and it sounds a lot like this( tad bit mellower). I’m even using the stock tip which is a dual 3in inlet to a Single 3 1/2 outlet. ( I’m sure that helps keep the noise down some). And I love it. Great Video!
GREAT JOB LT I JUST LOVE THE WAY YOU BUILD EXHAUST SYSTEMS AND I THINK THE DBX FLOWMASTER MUFFLER SOUND JUST GREAT - I THIN THE OWNER WILL BE VERY HAPPY WITH IT - GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s kind of cool to see that you are still using a lot of Matco tools. I loved the battery powered tools worked really good for a longer time than other big name brands!
Nice job LT. I'm pretty sure the customer is happy with the work of you and your guys. It takes a lot of time to have custom work done and done right, deep pockets helps too. I'm sure that the timeline was discussed before the project was taken on, especially since you were getting a business up and running that had to be self sustaining. Good job, best to you.
Looks and sounds great. Only thing I'll mention is a vehicle with a back window that opens you want to exit out the side. Out the rear it tends to roll fumes back into the vehicle.
I re-watched this with high quality audio speakers so I could be sure. I like it. I like it better than some of the "personal project" exhausts we've heard on this channel before. Looking forward to some more hq audio clips before you send it on its way. 👍
Sounds great! I've got an '04 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.7, and the tailpipe rusted off last fall. That gave me the excuse to remove the muffler and replace it with a Cherry Bomb. It's got a 90° on the back to bring the exhaust out right under the rear passenger door. It sounds perfect to me, and the drone is preferable to my constant tinnitus.
You need an evolution chop saw. Best bang for buck cold cut saw for exhaust. Love mine. I also see a bend pak bender in your future, mine works great and its 20 yrs old. Keep up the content LT.
I used stuff I saw here to build my own exhaust on my 8.1 sub. But I used a metal cutting blade on a miter saw to do it. Doesn't leave burrs like cutoff wheel. Might give it a try. Might work well for you. Enjoy watching u make exhaust.
Ok I have some experience to share. After owning a few wagoneers with custom exhaust I learned that the rear tailgate will never seal enough to keep the exhaust gas out. I ended up kicking the tail pipe out on the side behind the tire.
That's not something I would have thought of, appreciate your insight. I bet it would be a similar issue with my Chevy G-10 van, probably why the factory equipped exhaust kicks out the side behind the tire.
Sounds awesome it sounds like some of the previous owners of said Cherokee the owner may want to bring the tail pipe out of the side between the rear wheel and the bumper.
That exhaust system is a treat for the eyes. Beautiful work. My concern: the drone will be absolutely brutal. You have to be really careful with SUVs running a 6.0L. Anything above 50mph and you'll experience torture. One of the big Magnaflows or Flowmaster BBII - 50 or 70 - would be my recommendations for the next time you have it on the lift.
Sounds good. I've always liked doing butt welds on exhaust tubing as well. Ive always felt like they are stronger and they leave nowhere for water to sit and rot out the exhaust system. You should try out the Pype's m-80. They are a really reasonably priced muffler with decent build quality and made of stainless. Same style muffler with a little more of a raspy exhaust note at higher rpm.
I have a B5 A4 1.8t and typically people just run straight pipe, I hate that. I was also afraid of it sounding like a Honda seeing as it is a small displacement engine from 2001. Anyway I put a FlowFX from Flowmaster on it and it is surprisingly quiet but when I get on it, it definitely wakes up! Not a race car by any means but with 300whp and weighing under 3300lbs with me in it, plus it's a manual transmission, it's a pretty fun car to rip around in!
On a FSJ, if you bring the exhaust out the back, the fumes will go back in the open back window. If you bring the exhaust out the side, it will not come back in the rear window.
Excellent fab work! I would have made it a 2 piece Y pipe. Easier access to the bell-housing cover if the transmission needed to be removed. Other than that, good layout & fitment.
Looking at the chart, the dBX is #11 out of 20 on the sound scale. Not too shabby imo, sounds amazing! I still love my FlowFX at #7 though lol while the dBX is plenty loud imho.
Not being picky. But the only thing i see that may be needed is a heat shield for the starter. Under load should sound awesome rolling through the gears & on the trail. It's sounds great. .
I have found exactly one other video on youtube with a V8 and that muffler. It's a good choice. Surprisingly mellow or its size, I am curious how much the sound will change as it breaks in since it's still a glass packed muffler.
if that has a back window that can be opened during driving you may want to run it out the side, ask me how I know. I had a 85 4 runner with the roll down electric window and I put a new exhaust on it and the stock exhaust had the pipe exiting out the side. Well, I was young and dumb so I thought it would look cool going out the rear and the first time I rolled the window down driving down the road I thought I was going to die; it was like my mouth was attached directly to the exhaust. Long story short I change the pipe to exit to the side.
Looks like the “Y pipe” is aluminized ? If so, it’s a to bad you mixed materials, it’s going to rust at the inferior weld joint ! The “Y” also looks a little too big in diameter at the inlets. Should have made your own from SS.
For the record, the owner LOVES it! It is EXACTLY the sound we were hoping for, and the excruciating attention to detail is something I both admire and appreciate.

I think it sounds pretty good. Definitely not what you’d expect to hear sitting next to it at a stoplight. Great job LT.
You can cut holes in a cheap piston ring compressor to help hold your pipe and set your tac welds.
Looks great, sounds even better. I like it a lot, the owner should love it.
Hi LT, Jegs sells welding clamps for this they are band clamps with windows! they work great!!
Love the rockauto refrigerator magnets 2:24 ! \m/
My sons agree! The magnets are their favorite part of Dad opening parts boxes 🤣
@@benjaminholt4292 No seriously, I get bummed out when the boxes come without them lol.
Chuck the tungsten in a cordless drill for easier cleaning/sharpening.
Great work, as usual.
I like it. More importantly it appears that the owner likes it.
That’s going to be a nice ride!

Watching you weld and was thinking about ordering the same clamps you were describing.
They look great, and should perform

Through headphones that exhaust sounds amazing! Great job!
Not only does it sound great, I love the Reacher clip you inserted!
Glad you like it!
Sounds good.
Almost stock at idle.
Just a little deeper, louder.
I like it.
As I’ve gotten older I like quiet exhaust.
34 and couldn’t agree with you more. I started at 16 with a 454, 3in, 2 chamber flow master.
Now I have a 350 and looking at quieting it down
13:17 Great Edit. The introduction of the revolutionary Karate Chopsaw!

That's a perfect exhaust sound. It's not over the top loud. Nor is it quite. Great set up.
Idle offset table and it will sound even better.
Nice work LT
Looks and sounds great. Only thing I'll mention is a vehicle with a back window that opens you want to exit out the side.

I used a flow master FX 4” muffler on my ford diesel excursion. Works perfect. Deep tone. No drone. Flows great.

Sounds great and what clean exhaust system.
It sounds great! Not too loud, and has a good tone with not much crackle. (Wich LS's have alot of). Looks great too!

Sounds great,,! I have a 1996 ZJ ,5.2 l. It has a flow master 40 series i put on it about eight years ago. They sound very much alike. You did good!
Great job! True craftsmanship LT. Love the sound too. I agree it needs a bit more camshaft!
Just watched your orange duramax on power nation! They just recently put it on RUclips and it was sick!
I Love the way it sounds !!

Probably the best sounding Flow Master I've ever heard, but I still preform Magnaflow or Borla.
Exhaust sounds great

👍👍. Great job LT. I think it looks and sounds great. Great video. Thanks for sharing and have a great week!!
Love the sound
Sounds great!
It’s possible. I want to do what GM did and build an exhaust similar to the Escalade V. They nailed the fit finish and sound of that SUV
On a FSJ, if you bring the exhaust out the back, the fumes will go back in the open back window. If you bring the exhaust out the side, it will not come back in the rear window.

It sounds "old school" somehow. Appropriate for the vehicle, I think. Greetings from the farm in South Carolina!

If you want quiet, you can't go wrong with magnaflow. That certainly doesn't sound bad, but it's not quiet.
95 👍's up LT thank you for sharing 🤗
Passenger compartment drone??
I like it
Sounds perfect for a daily driver! Nice job LT! How did trying to seal up that bolt leaking coolant go?
You wver worked with SpinTech mufflers? I think they sound very good, and plan to use multiple for my own LS project.
Needs a resonator in the tail pipe. I think that exhaust is going to drone at highway speeds.
why not go duel exhaust would that not make more power and be easier?
I like it it sounds good😊🙋👍
Sounds not bad but I love them louder that’s my preference but my wife said it sounded great
Need to hear that sucker under load to tell. What is the internal construction of the muffler??
On the return filter pressure on the return on engine how you block it off please thks
Love the content
Instead of masking tape try using powder coating tape, indurs more heat
👍
Looks like the “Y pipe” is aluminized ? If so, it’s a to bad you mixed materials, it’s going to rust at the inferior weld joint ! The “Y” also looks a little too big in diameter at the inlets.
Should have made your own from SS.
The Y pipe is also stainless according to the manufacturer, and the inlets are 2.5” just like the front half of the system.
hi buddy...can you suggest the best exhaust system for DAIHATSU YRV TURBO??
All that HP and no trailer hitch? It sure could come in handy
i wonder why dont people use 8-4-2 exhaust
Its a winner , too bad the motor didn't have more cam
Kinda sounds like my banks exhaust on 2011 silverado 5.3
Does it drone at all?
What’s up with the fuel system? Dual tanks?
I must be getting old.
