Yes. Yes. And yes. Don't change a damn thing with the paint. Don't sand. No body work. No clear coat. Make it the definition of a junkyard parts truck sleeper.
Gotta do the 4wd shootout with Cleetus McFarland when it’s done. Things going to be a monster and leave it tri color for the ultimate sleeper for now lol
If your considering a air/water intercooler, I wanna throw this idea at ya. How about running a A/C compressor on the engine, with A/C coils inside the water tank, run a fuel loop through it, and use engine coolant as the liquid. The colder the air, the more power. Plus, the more consistent the inlet air temp is, the easier to stay on top of the tune, in varying weather conditions.
It's great to see this progress, LT! I can hear in your voice that you are encoraged and excited by this progress. Thanks for the great content that you made, all while running the shop too. It is great to hear your thiught process on why you make the choices you make, like the HVAC delete to save weight and make room for electrical that was displaced by turbos. Great job overall!
Hey LT, I know “it’s only money”, but I’d disassemble the body and have it all painted and done separately; have that frame coated and done too. I’m saying make it nice; treat yourself to something nice…truly make it a factory built drag truck. You’ve already got the sleeper vibe going with the Ugly Truck.
Long live sleeper street cars. When I was a kid in the muscle car heyday, I had a first hand view of all the nice cars from the latest 60’s to 1974. The restaurant on the main drag was the lunch spot, and there was often a 66 chev biscayne with original beige paint. Thing looked stock and nobody would give the car a second look, but the stance and tires were perfect. When it was running it sounded like a retrained beast. Under the hood was a big block, toilet bowl carb, header and hidden exhaust, on the floor shift. The front wheels would stay on the ground with proper throttle control. 66 Chev Biscayne sleeper. I’ve always put sleepers at the top, because the don’t attract heat. All go and no show.
I see safety glasses! But... you are the best vehicle person I have ever seen., without using the words welder, fabricator, fitter, etc. Wow dude, you're impressive.
I like the blue, I like the silver, and I also like the patch work quilt/multi-colored look as well. AS for people wondering why you put it together and take it apart multiple times - that's how you get it dialed in my experience. I feel like you have to build the car/truck at least twice before you blow it apart the final time to paint everything. A 6.2L would be great in the S10, but you have the 5.3L and I like the whole budget/use what you have aspect of that route. Needless to say - but you have a full plate and all of the work to go with it.
I just polished my son's headlights ( same front end as yours) and he thanked me by buying LED units( both upper & lower housings). The ones I cleaned & clear coated aren't anywhere close to being as dulled as yours are- if you want them...
Loving the weekly posting LT. This is in my top 3 channels to watch. Keep up the great work. Maybe one day you’ll be able to get back to 2 weekly. No pressure at all though, looking forward to all the upcoming content!
Thought for consideration: put the battery under the dash next to other electronics in place of the HVAC box. That will keep you from having to run long cables. Might have to find a cleaver exterior cutoff by the passenger side, but it could also move “some” weight to that side too.
I get not needing heat or AC, but you may miss the defroster depending on your climate and what times of the year you drive it. May be worth looking into a smaller aftermarket heater/defroster combo.
I absolutely love the blue. I also want to thank you for the in depth videos you did on the rear suspension. I'm going to be doing some very similar with my way overpowered '78 Dodge truck.
Don't give up on the HVAC unless you have to. It's horrible to need to move a vehicle but the windshield is fogged and you have no defrost. Mock up all the engine, turbo kit and electronics first, then see what it will take to keep the HVAC. If it's not too much, keep it.
Can’t wait to see how this turns out. I helped a guy in high school build a 78ish chevy step side. Was his daily driver for years. 496 with 200 shot of nitros it would run mid 7’s all day long.
Lt, with what your truck looks like right now it reminds me of the VW Harlequin you know the multicolored VW golf that the dealerships had out for display back in the day. They're worth a pretty penny when found in good shape.
Great video. I'm really looking forward to the outcome of this build. I was really hoping it was a time lapse build. Shucks! I agree with you on the sleeper junk yard look. I absolutely love sleepers they're definitely my favorite genre of quick vehicles and that would be the ultimate sleeper! King of all sleepers. My vote is with all 3 colors. 👌
Being from New England and having a bunch of mechanic friends, I've always disliked nissan because of rust a few years ago. I moved to the big island of Hawaii. I bought a 05 frontier nismo with 190k and fell in love with the platform. Yes, it needed a ton of work less. The p0420 code has been on for the last 2 years. But a good oil change and only running 91+ octane, and she runs like a top thanks to z1 for shipping me all the parts I needed to repair and enjoy my truck.
I have watched as you built the engine .. it gives me daydreams on my Suburbans 496 ... Truck is starting the rocker rust they are known for... Maybe one day I will follow some of your build tactics on my engine... This is gonna be a KoOl truck your building!
I sure like the orange 🍊 color done on the earlier truck. That blue color looks okay only because of the silver next to it. That silver is too dark. If I were to go silver it would be very light silver. That orange and black sure does look nice. It may be one of those colors that once you’ve done it you get tired of looking at it but for myself it never seems to get old.
2003 only 'Arrival Blue' is much more a rare color than any silver. Plus when done, that makes a beautiful truck, add antique white lettering and it's even more appealing. paint code # Arrival Blue Metallic, WA815K/91
Keep it as is. Blue fenders, silver cab, and black bed with a 1000+ hp BBC. Unique and no one that knows about your truck will think it's just clapped out until you smoke them. I am wondering why LT didn't take out the windshield. It seems like it would be easier to get to those bolts and access to the future roll cage.
You don’t have to rock the Johnny Cash Junkyard look to have a sleeper. Clean paint on a stock appearing truck will have everyone thinking paw paw is just on his way down to the store for beer and a scratcher. 😝
If you have any leftover bed material from patching the gooseneck hole. You should attempt to make a fuel door. Could make it something that quarter turns into the tube.
Silver would be my first choice with blue a close second. As for the name, you referred to it as the Lego truck early in the video and I think that would be a great name since it’s going to be a whole bunch of pieces and parts stuck together and I believe the sum of the parts will be greater than the donors were!
AWIC will allow for sub-ambient inlet temps if you toss ice in the tank. For what you're doing, this would be my go-to unless you are planning on running alcohol, which I don't believe to be the case.
I'd go with silver color, cooler in summer. Water to air definitely, air Temps/density will limit power. There are two into one units for the intake side. I'd mount filters on compressor and dump out the fender. Cuts the whole setup out the front.
As an aside do you or your brother know of a flow bench in maine? I ported my 8.1L heads, I'd love to have them tested and looked over before actually using them. I'll share my method if they flow how they look, I gutted the CSA and basically flushed everything one can...so, can you or maybe the internet help me find a bench?
Please tell me youre dropping a trans-brake in this one. That would be worth half a second or more in the 10s truck. Might break axles, but you HAVE to be able to spool up the turbo and make good power on launch.
From another comment saying to call it "twice as ugly" it saves you a bunch of work. Leave it multicolor, twice can mean many things. Twice the turbo, twice the traction, twice the power (give or take) AND its twice as ugly with the yellow headlights and muticolor bodypanels.
If you're going to paint it, I would go with the blue. Everybody does silver and black. Paint it, put all the factory badging on it including the z71 stickers for the sleeper look, most wont expect it.
Will you run one of the turbos as reverse direction for symmetry? I know that many do not because its easier for parts to have the same, but I think the symmetrical turbo setups looks dope.
I understand the junkyard look but with all the blood, sweat, and tears you’ve put into this truck and your business it should look nice. Maybe your old co-worker Jeremy Bumpus could come for a visit! The Blue gets my vote
Whats your vote for color? Arrival blue, Silver Birch Metallic, or something else?
Red that's Budweiser red
Arrival Blue all day long! or the blue that's used on the 2019 Camaros
Either of blues will look really good, red, black and white vehicles are everywhere.
Arrival Blue!!!
Arrival Blue 😉
Blue all the way for me.
Second
Third
Fourth
Dark blue 🔥🔥
Blue with gray and black criss crossing pinstripe along the fender and door line, just to give a nod to the 3 color scheme 😂
Arrival blue, and many thanks for NOT putting holes in the hood OR fenders. Sleepers rule!
Leave the colors as is, Frankentruck! 😂
Make it the REAL ugly truck
Call it "Lego"
It's. ALIIIIIVE!!😊😊😊
Yes. Yes. And yes. Don't change a damn thing with the paint. Don't sand. No body work. No clear coat. Make it the definition of a junkyard parts truck sleeper.
All go and no show!

Gotta do the 4wd shootout with Cleetus McFarland when it’s done. Things going to be a monster and leave it tri color for the ultimate sleeper for now lol
Hey LT,
You have the "Ugly Truck" that is 2WD... this one is AWD , why would it not be "Twice as Ugly"
Just a thought, that's all.
Love the progress
I 2nd this movement. Leave it as is all multicolour, and dub it "twice as ugly"
If your considering a air/water intercooler, I wanna throw this idea at ya. How about running a A/C compressor on the engine, with A/C coils inside the water tank, run a fuel loop through it, and use engine coolant as the liquid. The colder the air, the more power. If you google "interchiller" a few companies already make something like this.
Vintage air could be a game changer if he did this.
Cool! Leave it as it is. All three colors. Spend the money on all of the things to get it running!
I want blue. This thing is ready for some parts and an engine.
Honestly looks awesome as the junkyard look, just seeing people’s faces as you pass them up is the best feeling.
Please do silver birch with an HD hood and 06/07 grill. Love the progress of the truck
Hey LT,
I know “it’s only money”, but I’d disassemble the body and have it all painted and done separately; have that frame coated and done too.
I’m saying make it nice; treat yourself to something nice…truly make it a factory built drag truck.

66 Chev Biscayne sleeper. I’ve always put sleepers at the top, because the don’t attract heat. All go and no show.
The blue for sure
Keep it all 3 colors. Junk yard Sleeper!!😊
LT with the collision repair! Skills and know-how for the win!!!
I see safety glasses! But... you are the best vehicle person I have ever seen., without using the words welder, fabricator, fitter, etc. Wow dude, you're impressive.
I really like the blue, I don't see many in that color. Awesome project, love the content on your channel!
I love this build and I’m so over seeing the crazy out the hood crap. I like how you keep things neat and built with a purpose.
I like the blue, I like the silver, and I also like the patch work quilt/multi-colored look as well. Silver Birch for me 👍🏾
I love following this build! Keep up the great work Lawrence!
The silver Birch Looks amazing with the black tint and silver birch all the way
Thought for consideration: put the battery under the dash next to other electronics in place of the HVAC box. That will keep you from having to run long cables. Might have to find a cleaver exterior cutoff by the passenger side, but it could also move “some” weight to that side too.
I think the track rules forbid a battery (and fuel cell) to be in the passenger compartment.
I get not needing heat or AC, but you may miss the defroster depending on your climate and what times of the year you drive it. May be worth looking into a smaller aftermarket heater/defroster combo.
Do arrival blue
With the bottom half silver birch. Two tone. Would look great.
Old school two tone. Blue on bottom, grey on top 2/3
I absolutely love the blue. I also want to thank you for the in depth videos you did on the rear suspension. I'm going to be doing some very similar with my way overpowered '78 Dodge truck.
Arrival blue definitely!
Arrival blue with nostalgic black and silver racing stripes. Very cool truck.
Don't give up on the HVAC unless you have to. It's horrible to need to move a vehicle but the windshield is fogged and you have no defrost.
Mock up all the engine, turbo kit and electronics first, then see what it will take to keep the HVAC. If it's not too much, keep it.

Nice work LT and it is cool to see this truck coming together!!
I’m with you keep it all under the hood factory style.
I’d go with the blue for sure
Love the sleeper look.
Blue! And...how do you only have 154k subscribers?!?!? Your content is deserving of 5x that many!
Much appreciated!
Lt, with what your truck looks like right now it reminds me of the VW Harlequin you know the multicolored VW golf that the dealerships had out for display back in the day. They're worth a pretty penny when found in good shape.
Wow LT, that shock bracket is really nice!!
I’m glad to see some work being done, I’d get it on the track like that before you paint it, you can paint it during the winter
Nice to see you still wrenching on trucks LT!
SILVER COLOR WOULD LOOK SO CLEAN!!!
Dude this is sick. Dream projects all over your shop. Watching every video, every second. Subscribed.
Great video. I'm really looking forward to the outcome of this build. I was really hoping it was a time lapse build. Shucks! I agree with you on the sleeper junk yard look. Straight sleeper!!!! either leave it exactly how it is! Or the arrival blue but matte
Please leave it this color(s) lol. It would be awesome to have a sleeper like that! 😍😎🔥
Those headlamps are smoked😮😮😮
Keep it as is. Blue fenders, silver cab, and black bed with a 1000+ hp BBC. Unique and no one that knows about your truck will think it's just clapped out until you smoke them.
I am wondering why LT didn't take out the windshield. It seems like it would be easier to get to those bolts and access to the future roll cage.
It’ll definitely come out when it’s roll cage time
I wish I had this man's expertise. Because wow!
No matter what you do. When you put a fender on any gm truck those brackets need adjusted. They just never fit the same for any different part.
Awesome work good sir! Hyped to see it in action! Also a magic blue perhaps would look good on it :D
Blue would look sick
You don’t have to rock the Johnny Cash Junkyard look to have a sleeper. Clean paint on a stock appearing truck will have everyone thinking paw paw is just on his way down to the store for beer and a scratcher. 😝

Paint it blue. FYI power Driven Diesel has a junker drag truck. Im lovin the build.
AWIC will allow for sub-ambient inlet temps if you toss ice in the tank. For what you're doing, this would be my go-to unless you are planning on running alcohol, which I don't believe to be the case.
Keep it the multi-color wonder!
If I had to pick one though I would go with the blue.

That would be worth half a second or more in the 10s truck. Might break axles, but you HAVE to be able to spool up the turbo and make good power on launch.
i had to subscribe when you made that adjustment to the fender and it was perfect
Real excited for this build.
Great job on that fuel filler neck. Blue all the way for me!
Im excited about this build , I have a Z-71 cateye sleeper. I personally like the black cause thats what color I'm doing mine.
This truck is becoming my favoriite build.
yeah that blue is actually really nice but those trucks also look good in the silver imo
Love the build! Keep it up LT. I vote silver, always loved that color 👍
I think that blue is a nice color with some smoked out lights and black bumpers and wheels
The frankintruck thing is kinda sweet. Would be as sleeper look as it gets lol
do you have a video on that front suspension? and are you thinking of selling or sharing plans for the coil over brackets?
Blue for the base color with the silver birch for a unique 2 tone look.
Blue definitely would look the best but the silver would look like more of a work truck
Hell yeah i like how you took two trucks and made one 🤟🏻
Blue. Keep those pipes hidden too, no side ports.
Do blue with silver in the middle of the body. Like a throwback to the GMT400.
My vote is for the blue, great video 👍😁
If you go with and air to water intercooler, you could put the coolant tank under the dash where the HVAC box was at.
Arrival Blue all the way. It's my favorite color in the SS line.
I would look into a set of caltracs as well to help prevent axle wrap on launch. Go with the arrival blue for color
YOU RULE LT! so happy for you
Arrival blue with silver birch two tone would be really cool!
If you go with the Arrival Blue with silver ghost flames.
Air to water is kind of a pain, plus alot more moving parts and weight. A properly sized a2a will work good.
love these type of projects
Those coilover brackets look like they gonna be all sorts of in the way for the turbo kits
love the blue! but 4 tone would be fun.
Amazing how we can tell a vehicle by its sound.
Will you run one of the turbos as reverse direction for symmetry? I know that many do not because its easier for parts to have the same, but I think the symmetrical turbo setups looks dope.
I would like to. I’ve had my eyes on those Nelson Racing mirror image turbos for a while
I understand the junkyard look but with all the blood, sweat, and tears you’ve put into this truck and your business it should look nice.
Maybe your old co-worker Jeremy Bumpus could come for a visit!
The Blue gets my vote
Hey LT, I vote for the blue color, but what do you think of a satin finish? Maybe even a wrap, like your ol' step side?
If it’s the scrapyard racer, every panel should be a different color lol. Fenders, doors, roof, hood, bed sides, tailgate…. Everything.
