Charles getting into a build outside his comfort zone. I like it. V8s are so fun to build. I bought an old 5.0 from a Fox body and taught myself how to take it apart and rebuild it. I didn't have the fancy tools or knowledge of bolt fighting procedures back then, so it didn't turn out well, but I learned a lot and had a ton of fun.
While those 4.6 2V modular engines are pretty much dogs, they sound epic. Have always had a soft spot for these New Edge Mustangs. This should be a fun series!
You can put 3rd gen coyote rods in them and forged pistons and a cobra crank and with a cam and power adder it’s actually pretty reliable. I run that setup in a 1994 thunderbird and it ran fine on a 250shot for a year I just pulled it apart to put twin 3076s on it.
@ethansimon6216 how much power and rpms were you spinning? I'm rebuilding an explorer wap block for my 96 gt. Just going to go mild with coyote rods, npi pistons for now. Really want to spin it to 7k for shits and giggles. Cobra oil pump, ford gt followers, cam and valve job. Maybe mmr timing chain guides
All of you will end up falling in love with these cars, super easy to work on, cheap parts and fun. Very versatile , you can turn them into whatever you want.
Excellent choice. Old enough to be cheap, but new enough to not be completely falling apart. I used to work on a lot of fleet cars and that should be a very solid drivetrain compared to the gm equivalents
If I were you I would have scooped up a 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada for next to nothing. Stock they're 275hp and AWD with a 4.2L Vortech. Surely would own the rallycross and be quicker than the mustang in autocross. But of course it's a truck and weighs 4,440 lbs. Would have been a really odd curveball in the competition. They go for $3000-$5000.
Okay, Seriously, Best Episode Ever! 1. New Edge Mustang! =good fun / $ ratio + V8 Soundtrack (Totally biassed opinion). 2. 15:54 Charles' Weight Reduction Techno 3. Snap-On carnage! (Not as good as they used to be!) Can't wait for Part 2

Great video, thanks. Me and my son have been trying to put glass in but couldnt work out how to get it back into the holders but your videos has solved that. thanks again.
Finally catching up on this series. Always some good laughs when Paul and Charles get together, especially when its turning wrenches on a fuggin staaangg AKA a 'Mullet Crowd Missle.' 😂😂
Go full bolt-ons including bbk 78mm throttle body, bigger fuel pump, I used an svt pump had trouble with fit & function of a walbro, some 3:73s, subframe connectors, axle girdle, driveshaft loop, good shocks, a 150 shot of nitrous with a nos rpm activated window switch & a wot switch, a short throw shifter, a good clutch kit, a billet clutch quadrant with firewall adjuster, my favorite mod a roush shifter handle, by far the best mod I ever did, it curves back towards the driver & makes it way easier to shift gears & hit 3rd & 5th when under heavy acceleration, for tires if you want more street friendly then go with Mickey Thomas ET Street S/S, if more track dedicated but still street legal go ET Street R. A 275/40 is the widest tire you can run on the stock 17x8 wheels, for a 305/45 wide tire the narrowest wheel is 9" wide, but both of those are at the limit of what's acceptable & I have personally ran. & only because the taller sidewall gives a little more leeway on tire to rim width. If you wanted a lower profile tire than that, you would have to get a wider rim. The sidewall height affects the acceptable rim width in accordance with the tire width. I ran 275/40 Mickey ET Street Radials on stock wheels in back, I think they've been replaced tho, the ET Street S/S is more streetish than my ET Street Radials were but the Et Street R is more track than my Radials were. So pick between the 2 based on if you want more street or track. I ran for 2yrs 5k rpm clutch dump on the 150 shot at the track, made alot of passes till eventually the rearend broke & then the trans, put an Eaton true posi in it with Richmond gears & Moser axles with a girdle, & had my t45 fully built, it has bigger & stronger internals & better gearing than the t3650, only advantage the 3650 has is bigger input shaft. My t45 had the 10 spline input shaft cut off & 26 spline welded on, carbon syncros, cryo treated shift forks, steel guides, it was rated to handle 750hp. Car ran high 11s reliably around 450whp & setup as a street/weekend strip toy with full weight a/c, flip out touch screen & subwoofers & amp. Later installed a procharger & ran it for years, sold the car perfect to a dmb 20yr old who totaled it.
I love these "crossovers" (collabs i guess is the proper term in the youtube world). esp with Paul cause he is hilarious! thanks so much for all your amazing work sir. Currently dealing with a Touareg TDI having a HPFP failure issue so I've been learning a lot from your videos!

From past experience, the 2v already lost to the ls1 before the competition even began. However, with some dedication I know the potential here. With how light these cars were, some guys on the forums used to be deep in the 12s and in high 11's with crazy gearing (~4.56s), weight reduction, welded axle tubes and a good set of control arms, welded torque boxes and of course some great driver mod. I know that doesn't sound "fast" by modern standards, but back in the mid to late 2000's that was a big deal.
