Insignificance is still one of my favorite records of all time. “Good Times” is sheer genius. “It’d be so nice, if you weren’t here. Empty air, where you used to stand. Like an empty plane. That gets bussed away.”
Insignificance is an absolutely criminally underrated album. It's also such a great record to listen to after a bad breakup, it serves as a great fuck you.
Insignificance is one of the best musical statements of all time, without a doubt. I met Glenn Kotche recently and had a really hard time not fanning out, but I did tell him how much I loved all his playing, especially on this and any of his & JO's collabs. Loose Fur!
Ahh....my dream- be in this room with Jim playing this song, one of my favourites of his...the ultimate anthem in being an individual....and staying you + happy in a relationship. Funny how everyone is sitting politely...I cannot sit still during this song... it moves me from the inside!
I sing and play drums simultaneously and I've found over the years I've gotten better at matching my singing voice to the playing style of the song/part. He's bashing the guitar the entire time and I don't think he sings enough ('tis a shame) to have a ton of breath/energy control to be able to use a quiet voice while strumming voraciously at the guitar. Just my theory.
Kotche played on a few of O'Rourke's records (Eureka, Halfway to a Threeway and Bad Timing). From what I recall O'Rourke recommended Kotche to Tweedy and Wilco around the time they were starting to record YHF.
Yep, and the introduction happened a few months before YHF sessions started, right? Ken Croomer was still in Wilco, then. There are a few demos out there from the beginning of the YHF sessions with Croomer on I Am Trying to Break Your Heart. I’m pointing out that O’Rourke connected Tweedy and Kotche.
@@ericmarth and even funnier, the lead actress, Miranda Cosgrove, went on to become a mediocre pop musician, saying she had to "unlearn" everything Jim O'Rourke taught her for School Of Rock
just learned cheer accident drummer was in Brise Glace...so there you have it - jim o'rourke project. wild i never caught wind of cheer accident before Versailles!

It is Glenn Kotche

Funny you say that. O'Rourke worked as a music supervisor on School of Rock (Starring Jack Black, of course)
