I have only recently discovered Songs: Ohia. I can't quite comprehend that Jason Molina is no longer with us. Because he is. I listened to this song over and over and over before I knew he died. But surely that means a soul and spirit is alive in some way if they keep going and keep making an impact on people? What a wonderful artist.
Same here. I found him a couple days ago and have been playing this song on repeat. Music is timeless though. It's too bad we didn't support his music sooner but at least we found it at all. Keep it playin in his name!
Same dude, last year I fell asleep to my spotify and woke up to this song playing. I was obsessed with it for days and then read he had died. Still crushed.
I only just discovered this song today. Then I looked him up and 😢😢😢😢😢😢. Thankgod these videos are up and his songs are still playing and people are still listening and he’s still singing to us from far away. Listen.
Here are mine New Partner - Will Oldham Good Morning Captain - Slint The Wild Kindness - Silver Jews Randy Described Eternity - Built to Spill And of course Farewell Transmission.
Saw him in a college town one time and he performed in like a deli/cafe...Cafe... I got to plop down and sit criss-cross apple sauce and enjoy his art....Even when he'd play in Chicago he played at small venues...
i will keep coming back to these videos as long as they are up. i will listen to his music for as long as i am listening to music. i am so happy to have seen him play and meet him a few times. the positive thing that i can take from his passing is that so many other people very obviously feel the same way, similar way, as i do. it was kind of surprising to discover. i know it's corny but like the sun everything must go. his music will be my moon. miss ya jason.
i wish my pal chino was alive to hear this stuff...they both went down in similar fashion. i discovered him, like many, late. both had a way with words, both suffered hard.
Hi Molina, I hope you can hear me from heaven. This song is certainly the most beautiful I've heard on earth and I wanted to thank you for it! I’m so agree with the other comments...
this is the best live video i have seen on youtube in a long time. though i never saw him, or even knew of him while he was living his presence can truly be felt when watching this video. thanks for the upload. RIP Jason.
now we will all be brothers of the fossil fire of the sun now we will all be sisters of the fossil blood of the moon... some of the best lyrics EVER... actually the whole song is one of the only lyrically perfect songs i know mama here comes midnight with the dead moon in its jaws. holy fuck the genius is just so intense. RIP
I agree. Except I'd be remiss not to point out coal and gasoline are fossil fuels entirely. First source. The sun burns the fossils of everything but only after they've been devoured and decomposed, particulate matter then combustion material after a long long geologic epoch. Jason is definitely one of the most talented writers, guitar players and his voice is beautiful yet so eerie and foreboding at the same time.
Just a Geologist and song writer over here being picky. I just don't like when something confusing but beautiful is out there without a fore or after word about the scientific truth. I know that doesn't matter in music but I think we should try to make it. Some never will Google orattend an earth science class but they might listen to this musical genius; may he rest in peace. My husband died the exact same way a few years after him, in Indy a couple miles away from Muenster.
He is not wrong. Just that we group the sun in the controversial broad renewable energy category and fossil fuels like oil and gas in fossil fuel category. I personally fell in love with the lyrics to the lioness years ago and just recently learned he passed away Tortured soul it seems. But so happy performing 😢
They made excellent music, it's too bad they were never commercially successful it might have saved Jason's life. Somehow I feel that he preferred that they never did.
I would stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table and tell him this is the greatest song ever written.
hahaha so true. he was such an amazing songwriter lyricist etc..
You stole that from steve Earle. That’s what Earle said about Townes van zandt
@@maxfedor1 correct
@@maxfedor1 missed out the cowboy boots detail though
@@maxfedor1 what? Please explain
2024 just checking in, this is the best song of all time. Not saying I know much but the rawness and emotion is unbeatable

Yes
You are correct.

Nov 2024 still coming back to this song because of the profound lyrics, music, plus amazing film production.

MAMA HERE COMES MIDNIGHT WITH THE DEAD MOON IN ITS JAWS
Best line ever!
Isn't that so clearly the stand-out line?
the greatest song ever written
I just heard this song for the first time on Sirius tonight. I can’t argue against your statement. It’s a hauntingly beautiful song.
Maybe
facts!
You might be right Nicholas Andrews.
And it's just 3 chords
im not being dramatic when i say i would empty my bank account to see this live
Maybe on the other side you will have this opportunity.
I also have around 200$ on my bank account.
This has quickly became one of my favourite songs ever 🥲
So glad you said it Me too
So glad you said it Me too
It's like a life lesson for any 18 year old kid tryna go out into the world and make their mark on this place.
“The real truth about is that no one ever really gets it right. And the real truth about it is that we’re all supposed to try.”
Gets me every time.
God bless you Jason Molina. 9 years today and not a day passes without you being too far from my record player. Godspeed.
You’re seriously a real one. I almost cry thinking about this man’s music being lost to time. But people like you and I will always keep him alive ❤
Fan for 2-3 years now. He’s incredible. RIP

Happy Birthday, Molina. "I will be gone, but not forever."
Cobie Adamson this comments speaks to the heart. As Jason did
the tone on that guitar is outrageously good
I'm here now too!
looks like a danelectro from those pickups
@@tranquil87 56 u2
nothin sounds like it, pickups are wired in series, not to mention its got the original wooden bridge and metal nut too
You'll never go wrong with a Dan Electro plugged into a good Fender tube amp.
Can't beat thumb
it's almost insolent that he's creating magic and he's wearing too-big jeans, converse and a damn cowboy hat. rest in peace you legend.
that bright neon red exit sign to his right is such a haunting visual to accompany this song
Exactly what you said. Unintentional Neon light dive bar desperation.
@@wax7550 that has to be the best song title that's never been used
Stunning. This belongs in the Library of Congress or the Smithsonian. It's too good for the Rock 'n Roll HOF.
10 years today. You will be gone but not forever. RIP Jason
My heart bleeds a little every time I hear this song. Farewell Transmission, farewell Jason have peace.
+juliejambuster you exactly said that I would say. Thx
I pretty much come here when I want to cry. In a good way.
My soul cry's in redemption and salvation and I know the world is better for this song.
Makes shivers go up and down my spine. Best song of the last decade.
Certainly Jasons best song, agreed.
@@ssocialdrummer my whole being gets goosebumps every time I listen to this song. It's amazing.
Me too, the line "mama, here comes midnight with the dead moon in its jaw"
This song gets deeper and deeper every time I hear it. I raise a glass to Jason.
"Mama here comes midnight with the dead moon in its jaws. Must be the big star about to fall..."
Rest in peace, Jason, and thanks for the music.
It's a gift when you find an artist you never listened to. It's so damn hard to read that he passed away... I'm a wreck
