Almost two and a half years after this masterpiece was recorded, I'm back listening to it again. About the only piece of music I can compare this to in my musical library is Villanova Junction, making this probably the highest order of compliment that can be paid in my way of thinking. Revisiting this all these years later, it's still one of the best videos. You're a legend Tom, always. Here's a legit question tho. You're saying this beautiful example is Key of B. I - v - bVII - IV. Why isn't this Key of E? V - ii - IV - I?
greetings - i don’t know if you ever got your answer but it is the same thing. since the progression starts and ends on B, B sounds like home or the tonic - which most ppl always analyze as the one (I). others analyze it as V ii IV I in E - neither is incorrect just 2 diff ways to look at or describe the same thing. i think technically viewing the tonic as 1 is the textbook correct way of analyzing progressions, which in this case B is acting as the tonic. hope this helps

I have not been in quarantine. I'm a nurse and I've been working my ass off the whole time. I'm just now catching up. Most of this is way over my head as a beginner; however, I still watch in hopes of learning. I have learned my major scales along side pentatonics though. Your insights are quite interesting to me.

Thank you for the no minor scales over the major chord progressions. I have never been able to make that sound good to my ears. I always play in the natural minor if I do that (If progression is in A major, I can play licks in F# minor) it always sounds great. Thanks a bunch, Tom, these videos are great.
That chord progression you played at the end was killer. It's just a little thing, but it inspired me to go into the garage, play it and try making something out of it. Simple is good and I'm glad you don't talk gear. Most of us, myself included, don't know how to use half the shit we got and we all talk like this pedal is a gift from god and that pedal someone else uses sucks, blah blah blah. Diamond Dave once said if you can't do it in a t-shirt under a street light, then you can't do it in MSG either. So many greats use what the world call cheap shit it's amazing. People don't seem to remember that those gorgeous vintage les pauls were at one point time pawn shop guitars picked up by those late 60s greats cuz they were cheap but awesome. Thank you for the no minor scales over the major chord progressions. I have never been able to make that sound good to my ears. I always play in the natural minor if I do that (If progression is in A major, I can play licks in F# minor) it always sounds great. Thanks a bunch, Tom, these videos are great.
That chord progression you played at the end was killer. It's just a little thing, but it inspired me to go into the garage, play it and try making something out of it. Simple is good and I'm glad you don't talk gear. Most of us, myself included, don't know how to use half the shit we got and we all talk like this pedal is a gift from god and that pedal someone else uses sucks, blah blah blah. Diamond Dave once said if you can't do it in a t-shirt under a street light, then you can't do it in MSG either. So many greats use what the world call cheap shit it's amazing. People don't seem to remember that those gorgeous vintage les pauls were at one point time pawn shop guitars picked up by those late 60s greats cuz they were cheap but awesome. Thanks for not talking gear even though your one of the few on youtube who could do so accurately. 🍻
