I had this idea that popped into my head one night about wrapping my dishwasher in copper. After a little research here’s what I came up with!

In 2004 my husband and I used copper flashing to do our backsplash and behind the refrigerator, I think we paid $24 for the whole roll. I can’t even imagine what it would cost doing it now 😮19 years later it’s holding up beautifully and it’s has some patina on it. I also made markings on it with the back of my claw hammer. I will never change this, besides loving it, my husband passed away in 2014 and I always remember fondly doing that project with him❤
Copper is sky high now. No wonder bad folks steal it out of homes! 👹👹

It may be expensive but it’s also not an item out on the market! You can’t purchase a copper dishwasher in a similar style and I feel one that looked similar would be valued much more than $1500
Right? There are plenty of channels that show how to do save money and cheap hacks. There are people looking for well-made projects using quality products that cost a bit more.
It is expensive to be honest, but sometimes it makes sense to spend the money. It’s all about your budget and keeping balance, and if you are going to be living in a space for a long time it makes sense. People have to remember, this is a RUclips channel and the creator is an interior designer making content as well as designing his home. Maybe not everyone can afford a copper sheet, but there are vinyl wraps that you can buy much cheaper. It’s the idea and drawing outside of the lines that should inspire people 😊

You are so young, and your creativity is beyond words. I can't imagine what you'll create in the next 5, 10, or 15 years. To watch you is like watching a painter paint a picture. I love copper. My kitchen is copper with ice blue. But I have to tell you, that dishwasher cover is absolutely beautiful. It's that kind of creativity that makes you one of a kind.

Copper is not very durable, and patinas easy. Not that practical for sinks or dishwashers
@@labrigful then why would it be used for countertops? Those take heavy wear, too, yet I have seen copper countertops in public bars.

It's sooo great to see that you found a way to make a standard appliance your own because a lot of times the basic/standard ones are not the best looking and the ones with character cost a fortune. And even though it's not the cheapest project, a high traffic appliance needs some durability (and a functioning machine didn't end up in a landfill/ or you didn't get rid of it because it didn't fit the aesthetics). LOVE IT!

It’s not expensive is an investment that dishwasher added so much character and uniqueness to the kitchen for a life time. I would never even think of doing something like that. Drew never stop you are incredible ❤

This will probably get lost in the comments but...printmaker here! You can get sheets much cheaper that that and oxidizing them is not hard. Look for local metal shops. They'll usually carry a large array of thicknesses and will cut to size for you.

My mom and dad had 3 dish washers. I was one of them. The other two were my sisters. They also had a lawn mower, a car washer, a gardener, a garage door opener and house cleaning staff.

When you said wrap I thought you meant in vinyl! I was shocked, didn't think you could actually wrap it with a sheet of copper, what an awesome idea. Honestly looks sooooo good and fits so well in the kitchen, looks like it was made to order! I hope its long lasting. Great work Drew!
You know how people reuse tin cans for utensil holders etc? Would be nice to use the copper scraps to do something similar and bring more of that beautiful detail onto the countertops.
And when it get’s dented, you go for a hammered metal look! Genius!

I could not have envisioned any of these steps, from buying a sheet of metal, to removing the front of my dishwasher, to cutting copper with scissors and gluing it onto the front of a dishwasher and even changing the handle....a big learning curve for me to watch this... wow.... 🙂

I remember making art from sheets of copper like that in primary school, we would use tools to almost emboss the copper and then frame it. Can’t wait to see what you also do with the offcuts, but this transformation was genius. Absolutely love it.

I didn’t think a copper dishwasher was necessary but I was so wrong. Maybe the makers of dishwashers will see this and love it as much as I do and will start making this an option! Love it!

It’s a terrible spot for a towel rack, since the towels will drape all over the floor when you open the dishwasher
It was worth it. It balances the mixed metals beautifully and looks bespoke. You have saved in other areas with DIY and recovering furniture and this was definitely a place to spend a few hundred. It’s beautiful. Immaculate finish too.
I know cut copper can be super sharp. And you didn’t wear gloves! But no cuts! You are an expert in the process and results. Love it

At first I was thinking with the cost of the copper, If you add a bit more you can probably get a panel ready dishwasher that matched with your cabinets. But the outcome is so nice, looks so professionally done and special! Good job Drew!

I grew up in a home with a chambers gas stove that was real copper. Than my mom got copper colored appliances. Not the same. This came out beautiful.

It’s beautiful! My great uncle is obsessed with copper so there’s copper all over his house: awnings, bird houses, countertops, etc. Just a quick reminder that copper is a soft metal so it’s easy to make dents/tarnish it (especially when hitting water). So be careful with the dishes, silverware, Utensils, etc. so that they don’t dent, scratch, or scrape the copper.
