    How to care for your iRobot Roomba
    Have you just spent your hard earned dough on a Roomba? These gadgets are expensive so you want to make sure they last. For longevity, you should do a bit of regular but simple maintenance on them.
    While each vacuum or Braava jet mop will have its own specific requirements, generally speaking there are some things you can do to keep them in good running order.
    How to care for iRobot Roomba: Wipe down the shell & clean sensors
    Your robot vacuum or mop navigates using special sensors. They look like little tinted windows.
    Wipe them with a damp cloth to remove any dust that might impede them seeing their way around.
    Similarly, underneath there’s cliff sensors that prevent your robot from falling off ledges. Make sure these are clean too.

    How to care for iRobot Roomba: Clean brushes and rollers
    Even if they’re still spinning and the vacuum is still running, fibres, string, threads and hair can get tangled up in the brushes, and these will also hide in the locking mechanisms that hold the rollers in place.
    Keeping the rollers clear is important because tough fibres can actually get pulled tight and cut through the rubber if you leave them in place for too long… a fact I found out when I went to shoot this video. Time for a new roller!
    Remove the rollers by popping them out; the frame around the rollers opens with the pinch of a level, and each roller is clearly marked with a shape so you put it back correctly. Pull them out, untangle or cut anything obstructing them, and remove any tangles from the ends.
    You can and should also remove the front caster wheel and the corner or edge brushes to pull out tightly wound or hidden tangles too. (In some cases you might need a screwdriver.) Either way, it’s pretty easy. Awkward as it is to grasp, pull on the caster wheel and it will pop out.
    Clean the dustbin and bin well
    Dust accumulates, not surprisingly in the dust bin and the bin well where it sits. Empty the bin first naturally, then remove the filter. The filter by the way is not washable so if it’s really dirty it might be time to order a replacement.
    You can tap the filter to clear dust or use a brush.
    Rinse the bin with warm water, and make sure you get all the corners and crevices. Then let it air dry completely before replacing it.
    Wipe out the bin well with a damp cloth and remove any debris that’s lingered.
    One last cleanup… you’ll want to wipe the charging contacts on the robot and base station, and wipe any dust or debris from around the base station and vacuum intakes and suction ports.
    Now’s also a good time to empty your dust bag if it’s full.
    Those are the key tips for you to keep your new Roomba or BraavaJet running smoothly.

    This was very helpful thank you, now I know where to look for the sensors to clean and knowing I can get the bin wet. The rollers, wheels and brushes I cleaned regularly

    Thanks Erin, I was searching for something a little different "J series bin contacts "I'm having issues with a brand-new J series I bought off of eBay, And I figured if I wasn't able to repair it I could always use the dustbin and head module, my robot has well over 100,000 jobs it's gone through. And I honestly don't think it was maintained very well before I bought it. Anyway I switched out all of the parts on mine and the J series still is throwing out a Re-install bin. I've tried everything I guess next thing is to tear the thing apart and maybe see if it has a cool solder joint or something. But my i7 is so quiet and smooth now that I'm already pretty happy if I can't fix it. Plus I only paid a little over $100 for It and that includes the upgraded battery. Anyway I thoroughly enjoyed your video and learned a few things. And I love the Canadian accent 🙂but I wish you would've said "about" a couple of times I get a kick out of thatit's so neat the way you guys say it, anyway thanks again for the video.

    Very helpful but need to know what to do if one of the rollers remains frozen after hair removal. Can the rubber cover be removed to expose any obstructions inside?

    • @ErinLawrenceTV
      @ErinLawrenceTV  2 года назад

      No. The cover doesn’t come off the roller. Check the ends where the roller is inserted back onto the bot. You may have an accumulation of dirt in those joints. You can also try replacing the rollers.

    Pop the ends off the the debris extractors and you'll discover a ton of hair, that's the cause of the fantom error saying to clean the debris extractors !!! Helpful tip !!!

    What about cleaning the reflector after taking out the bin? It can cause the Roomba to say the bin if full when it's not.

    • @caroe3330
      @caroe3330 3 года назад +1

      Im not sure if this can help as idk what the reflector is, but for my i3 when you take out the rollers and the bin there’s a flap, they somehow join and you can clean it from both sides. My bin said it was full and when i cleaned it it wasnt so full so hopefully this can help. They seem to need a lot of maintenance

    hello Erin, I just purchased an iRobot i3 with auto collection 3550. it will not run for more than 5 minutes, it stops turns red and I get an error to check filter. Why would a brand new machine be giving me this message? Any assistance would be appreciated.....TY

      Hi Pamela. So sorry to hear you’re having trouble with your vacuum. That definitely sounds like a serious error and I would contact iRobot directly for assistance. Perhaps it just needs a reset, or there might be some thing jammed around one of the wheels or inside somewhere. You could also do maintenance and tidying on the robot to see if you can find anything wedged where it shouldn’t be.
