I find it a really bad review. One: it's on the lowest end on the DSLR price range, it should be reviewed as such. Two: Sony A6000 costs almost twice as much, it's an unfair comparision Three: the autofocus of the camera isn't bad. The autofocus of the kit lense is. Even a low cost upgrade on the kit lense (which still leaves the 2000D under the price of Sony A6000) has an enormous positive effect on autofocus. All in all, this IS a beginner camera, and a pretty good way to start with DSLRs. If someone has more money to spend on a DSLR, yeah, it's not for them. But for someone, who just starts DSLR photography, and wants a camera that has an extremely wide range of lenses available that can be used even after a camera upgrade, it's a good choice. There is a reason why it's so cheap. Your video was like reviewing a Suzuki Celerio and complaining that it's slower than a BMW M3, and doesn't have the build quality of a Volkswagen Phaeton.
Thanks for sharing your perspective. I wouldn't recommend a Suzuki Celerio as well. Spend money on things you want and like. It's totally true that this can be used for beginners without a big budget. But I know what it's like to have no money. That's why I urge to spend money on better things and in this case a better camera. No hard feelings, really appreciate the time you took to watch and write your thoughts. Big respect

Hey Gary, first of all thank you for this review. I was about to buy this camera, but after this review I changed my mind. As I am just starting to learn to use DSLR cameras, which one would you recommend for beginners? Thanks!
What is a Canon camera for beginners that can take really good photos (better than a smartphone) and isn't insanely expensive? And I don't mean a budget camera by the way. I would be using it for mostly portraits and landscapes and stuff like that. I've been searching all weekend and I need advice. Sometimes the cameras that look promising also aren't available new on Amazon so that kinda sucks. Thanks!
Hi. Im planning to get this camera. What is the difference of 2000d to rebel t7? Are they the same? Im seeing most people buy the t7 than the 2000d. Thankyou
Well with the right amount of effort it can work out quite decent. But I'd suggest to take a different camera to make yourself much easier such as the Sony A5100. It also has a screen to look at yourself ☺️
So i have saved much money i dont want to spend too much but i saw this comment and i thought abt to buy the nikon d3500 is it really better than the canon 2000d@@GaryJahman
I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max in portrait mode on a tripod that I use for family photos but I want a dedicated camera. I want a camera with changeable lenses and all that good stuff. Not looking to break the bank, maybe $600 or so. What are your suggestions?
Yeah you have to look second hand or used market. It is also really personal preference. I'd say for Sony: A5100 or A6000 Canon: M50 or 70D Nikon: D350 or D530 But honestly, don't spend money but learn how to edit and compositions. This can be learned with using the camera phone
6:50 about the auto focus though what???? even my canon Rebel XS from 2008 has red dots that light up in the 9 point af system. Is there no setting to enable that?
Yeah the red dots are there. They are enabled on default. But in that little clip of mine it appears disabled somehow 🤷 Maybe I recorded this while the live view was still on...my bad
@@GaryJahman phew you gave me a scare! if the camera didn't have the red dots there's no way i'd get this! it'll be shooting like hit and miss! haha i was thinking of getting this to replace my canon rebel XS /(1000D). At least this comes with video! and wifi a big bonus for me. The canon rebel xs is really a dinosaur now 🤣
umm is that good camera for car photography? currently have a canon eos 400d digital and yes, it is ok good camera but i want a screen where i can see what i shoot and also... better photo quality. so i shoot parked cars and also driving/moving cars when i stand at crossing. cars get far away from me pretty fast and i just cant produce any good quality photos of cars like 35 meters away from me...
Really depends on your budget and what your needs are. For instance, for anyone like me that likes small compact cameras with good autofocus, I'd opt in for a Sony A6000
That is nice, hope you have a good experience with it! Keep in mind that there is a global inflation so the prices are also higher here in The Netherlands
Best review I've ever seen on the Canon entry level cameras. Focusing in video or even with stills is a major pain at times as is the lighting if you're not blasting the video with lighting you're going to get grain.. thanks for the great review.
@@GaryJahman ok, no problem! I want to get started in the world of photography and have friends who use a 50D and D3000. I can't really decide if I should get the Canon 2000D or the Nikon D5200 as they are roughly the same price for used ones in my country
@@nils5482 Well you know it does not really matter if you are willing to learn. But the experience of learning with a device that is also fun to work with is for me at least very important. In your case just use the one you think will be most fun to use 😃
I was planning to buy this one mostly for portraits and some landscape photography. Although I also been searching about Fujifilm x-A5 since there's lot of talk about it on blog reviews. What you think about these two? Which one has more potential?
@@GaryJahman From what I have read both are quite similar in terms of quality but then I think most reviews find x-45 more adequated to vlogging. I can't really make a decision on going with this reflex or fujifilm mirrorless.
I got this camera for my 60th Birthday, I had been seriously into photography in the 70's and 80's but then the digital stuff came along at the same time as the kids and I couldn't afford to replace my Ricoh KR10 super so the photography took a back seat. If you want to learn about photography, the basic rules and take some stunning pictures as you learn then this is a fantastic camera. The focal length of the lens you use isn't true, because its a crop sensor but all that is the stuff you learn as you use the camera. Don't be put off by this review, its more than a little contradictory as I'm sure you will realise if you watch it.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I kinda agree on some things and yes to learn the basics any camera will do even this one. But do realise that in 2024 we want a modern camera with some features that are standard in 2024. This simply does not deliver the latter. Have a great day!
@@GaryJahman Yeah, in my day you had 12/24 or 36 shots then had to wait till it came back from the developers to see any mistakes now everything can be corrected almost instantly with photoshop. But that's another minefield!!
This is a perfect camera or any dslr in this matter for a new beginner. We're spoiled with easy functionally with mirrorless cameras that the true experience of photography is gone. I've switched to mirrorless two years ago but still have my 5d mark iv because I still love the experience with a dslr. New photographer will have to use this so that they can perfect their exposure etc. If the basics of a camera aren't being practice in a way that will force you to learn then it'll be hard if they get into a tricky situation where they dont know which settings is which in a situation.
I do agree with you to some extent but I recently got the new Canon Eos R100 and that’s the more or less mirrorless version of this and it’s just a much better experience also for beginners for not that more money
I am looking between this and the nikon d3500 main use for car photography what one would you recommend? I don't have a laptop so would need it need to have a compatible app to export
@@patcunningham9654 alright, Nikon D5600 is something that is suited for landscapes Although keep in mind the skill of editing and composition should be also on point. Skills/knowledge/experience will always exceed the camera itself 👍
I cringe every time I look at one of these Canon reviews of the 2000D and they reference the Rebel T7 model number. The 2000D is the International model whereas the T7 is the model sold in the US. The two cameras bodies are identical but the kit lens that is packaged with the camera is different. The Rebel T7 sold in the US comes with Image Stabilization (IS) in the lens. The 2000D has a very similar kit lens but it does NOT include Image Stabilization. In addition, many 3rd party sellers in the US are selling the 2000D but advertising it as a model 2000D/Rebel T7 (just like the title of your review). Some of these advertisements are using language taken straight from Canon's spec sheet for the T7 which includes the phrase "Image Stabilization" but clearly the product that they are selling does not include IS. In addition the 2000D models being sold in the US are a "grey market" product for which Canon will not warranty. That's another fact being left out of the advertisements.
What would you recommend for product photography (manicure bits and tools - tiny objects - size of jewellery). I currently have Lumix lx100, but i dont like photos it gives me, even though i use light box… thank you… I looking at Canon Eos 800d, some years ago i had Canon eos 1000d and i loved it
Actually for product photography this will work but get yourself a good lens. The lens that is included (kitlens) is not the best. I don't have experience with the other cameras you've mentioned
Thank you for your question. It really depends on what kind of genre he or she wants to do. Let's say for nature/wildlife then this would need a different camera than for let's say food photography

Thanks for your questions. This wouldn't be good for sports and videography. I strongly suggest to check for secondhand flagships or higher tiers from years prior. My brother has a Canon 70D and that would be a great and cheap beginners camera
Gotta be honest, yes, it's very light and I love the 24MP sensor. compared to my Pentax bodies, it feels like it's made of tissue paper. I can't even compare the build quality to my K100D. Because the K100D is 100% better made.

@@alissataylor8875 well if you don't want to spend a whole lot of money (up to $750) then maybe a Sony a6100 or 6300 would be good enough for your needs. Yep, better to spend hard-earned cash to better equipment
What would you reccomended for 'sit and talk youtube videos' cannon 2000d or Nikon D3500
Nikon D3500 👍
Which camera is good for fast moving object? E.g for teacher
you can try sony a6000
How is the performance for night photography?
In general not so good
Hey Gary, first of all thank you for this review. I was about to buy this camera, but after this review I changed my mind. As I am just starting to learn to use DSLR cameras, which one would you recommend for beginners? Thanks!
Hi there, well I would use a Mirrorless Camera. Techradar has a nice list: www.techradar.com/news/best-entry-level-mirrorless-camera
Thanks!
The Canon EOS M50 is a great affordable option 😃
Hi. Im planning to get this camera.
What is the difference of 2000d to rebel t7? Are they the same? Im seeing most people buy the t7 than the 2000d.
Thankyou
It is the same! The name is different in US vs rest of the world 😃👍
@@GaryJahman thanksomuch. That helps a lot! 😊
Will this be good for portrait photography for makeup bloggers?
Well with the right amount of effort it can work out quite decent. But I'd suggest to take a different camera to make yourself much easier such as the Sony A5100. It also has a screen to look at yourself ☺️
I see that you’re recommending the Nikon d3500 for beginners 😊 does it have a mobile app?
Yeah I believe so, not wifi connected but via Bluetooth
So i have saved much money i dont want to spend too much but i saw this comment and i thought abt to buy the nikon d3500 is it really better than the canon 2000d@@GaryJahman
NETHERLANDS OMG i hate the weather😍 snow in april??
hahaha 🤣
What’s a good camera would you recommend for video shooting around the price range of $500?
For video
Canon Eos M50
Sony A6XXXX
these are the ones that I have personal experience with
I’ve been saving up and researching cameras for myself. I have to say your review was the most helpful!
that's cool!🤩
I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max in portrait mode on a tripod that I use for family photos but I want a dedicated camera. I want a camera with changeable lenses and all that good stuff. Not looking to break the bank, maybe $600 or so. What are your suggestions?
Sony ZV-E10
Canon EOS M50 Mark II
😃😃👍👍
I own this camera and agree on the auto focus issue but you can still have a great time with it.
So true!
which Cannon camera would you recommend that does great videos and that focuses really well
M50 M2 👍
Can you recommend any cameras for beginners that is affordable??
Yeah you have to look second hand or used market. It is also really personal preference.
I'd say for Sony: A5100 or A6000
Canon: M50 or 70D
Nikon: D350 or D530
But honestly, don't spend money but learn how to edit and compositions. This can be learned with using the camera phone
6:50 about the auto focus though what???? even my canon Rebel XS from 2008 has red dots that light up in the 9 point af system. Is there no setting to enable that?
Yeah the red dots are there. They are enabled on default. But in that little clip of mine it appears disabled somehow 🤷
Maybe I recorded this while the live view was still on...my bad
@@GaryJahman phew you gave me a scare! if the camera didn't have the red dots there's no way i'd get this! it'll be shooting like hit and miss! haha i was thinking of getting this to replace my canon rebel XS /(1000D). At least this comes with video! and wifi a big bonus for me. The canon rebel xs is really a dinosaur now 🤣
@@Gabrielr8 haha that's funny 😂
Have a nice day and thanks for pointing this out!
What Video camera do you recommend for beginners?
Sony ZV-E10 affordable and powerful
umm is that good camera for car photography? currently have a canon eos 400d digital and yes, it is ok good camera but i want a screen where i can see what i shoot and also... better photo quality. so i shoot parked cars and also driving/moving cars when i stand at crossing. cars get far away from me pretty fast and i just cant produce any good quality photos of cars like 35 meters away from me...
or do i only have to buy a better lense? i need zooming lense
It's possible with this camera if combined with a good lens. But if you want to do some detailed shots the screen is not able to tilt.
@@GaryJahman what lens would you recommend with this one? i have 18-55mm and 80-200mm canon lenses already
@@Atte123 you should try some nice primes. A cheap one would be the 50mm f1.8
@@GaryJahman but i want possibility to zoom with the objective:)
Between this camera and the Canon 4000D which one will you prefer?
I mean Which one is the best ?
Pretty much similar cameras, go with the one you can afford 😉
so what camera do you recommend for beginners?
Really depends on your budget and what your needs are.
For instance, for anyone like me that likes small compact cameras with good autofocus, I'd opt in for a Sony A6000
My mom bought me one of these today and it cost us around 470 euros, i live in Hungary...
That is nice, hope you have a good experience with it! Keep in mind that there is a global inflation so the prices are also higher here in The Netherlands
Very helpful. What do you recommend instead for a person on a budget?
I'd checked a second hand/used one. My vote goes to the Sony a6000
Best review I've ever seen on the Canon entry level cameras. Focusing in video or even with stills is a major pain at times as is the lighting if you're not blasting the video with lighting you're going to get grain.. thanks for the great review.
Thank you for checking the video! 👍👍👍
The autofocus is definitely not great, but it kinda pushes you to use manual focus 😄
Which DSLR camera do you recommend for beginners but with better auto focus than the canon 2000D?
I also reviewed the cheapest Nikon DSLR, it's the D3500. That one has better autofocus than this one
is this camera good for the gym??
For taking pictures? Maybe with the right lens and using proper lighting
Hey mate, I have a 600e budget, I want to start photography portrait, landscape and street photography, can you recommend me a camera?
There are many options such as the Sony A6000 with Sigma 30mm f1.4 prime lens
@@GaryJahman I have an offer to get nikon d3500 with 18-140 mm is that a good option for begginer?
Yeah that's a great camera, I even made a video about it 😁
WAY better and much more enjoyable
@@GaryJahman Thank you Gary, I saw the video earlier I just wanted to confirm with your opinion. 😁
Him "Im not a landscape photographer so it was challenging for me"
But his pic 😂❤
Haha had to put a lot of effort with this little camera 😂
@@GaryJahman they were beautiful shots!
@@Photo_doctor thanks! 😃😃
Are the autofocus problems worse than, lets say, on older cameras like the Nikon D50 or D3000?
I actually never used Nikon D50 or D3000. So I'm afraid I cannot help you out
@@GaryJahman ok, no problem!
@@GaryJahman very wise answer, thank you!
I was planning to buy this one mostly for portraits and some landscape photography. Although I also been searching about Fujifilm x-A5 since there's lot of talk about it on blog reviews. What you think about these two? Which one has more potential?
I never used the X-A5 so I wouldn't know honestly
@@GaryJahman From what I have read both are quite similar in terms of quality but then I think most reviews find x-45 more adequated to vlogging. I can't really make a decision on going with this reflex or fujifilm mirrorless.
@@DianaTorres-sc1sg yeah, I am reading the same things. From what I have read, the Fujifilm looks like the winner
my flash keeps popping up automatically
Oh that sucks, the locking mechanism is broken I guess
@@GaryJahman is there probably an off button for the flash?
The quality of the info you’re sharing and the quality of the video you deserve more than 2200< subs I am definitely a new supporter brother
Thanks a lot Brian, really appreciate it! 👍
@@GaryJahman Times have definitely changed Gary, pictures used to be grainy now they are noisy! And film was always ASA not ISO!
@@stevieframe well I’m half your age so I do believe in you!
Price
Around €300
Here in Holland at least
I am looking between this and the nikon d3500 main use for car photography what one would you recommend? I don't have a laptop so would need it need to have a compatible app to export
D3500 for sure. It's just a more pleasant camera to work with and with the Snap bridge app things will go smoothly
What camera would
You recommend for landscape photos
Do you mean a starters camera for landscapes?
@@GaryJahman yes
@@patcunningham9654 alright, Nikon D5600 is something that is suited for landscapes
Although keep in mind the skill of editing and composition should be also on point.
Thanks a lot for this background information that clearly a lot of people don't know 👍👍 have a great day 😃
What would you recommend for product photography (manicure bits and tools - tiny objects - size of jewellery).
What camera would you recommend for someone who is aspiring to be a professional photographer?
Thank you for your question. It really depends on what kind of genre he or she wants to do.
Let's say for nature/wildlife then this would need a different camera than for let's say food photography
Pls tell me fast can we film videos with Canon 2000d pls tell me

What is your budget?
Hey
Wondering if someone can help out
I recently bought this camera, and I am using it in conjunction with my telescope for astrophotography.
Issue is, when I remove the large lens that comes with the camera, it becomes completely unusable, the entire image is just a blur. Can this camera not be used without the big lens?
I'm not sure what you mean to be honest. Not sure why you would use this camera for astrophotography.
Maybe someone will know but maybe ask in the astro reddit or forum etc
Refurb Canon T7 EF-S with 18-55 and EF 75-300mm = $242 on sale. At that price it's a no brainer despite your review.
That's a great deal indeed

Hi there, well if you can get this camera for really cheap then it would be fine to learn the basics of photography.
Actually any camera that you can afford would be good. I personally like the Sony A6000 as a beginner camera
@@GaryJahman alright, thank you for the information!
would this be good for sports photography and videography ? or what would be a good cheap beginner camera for that ?

Gotta be honest, yes, it's very light and I love the 24MP sensor. compared to my Pentax bodies, it feels like it's made of tissue paper. I can't even compare the build quality to my K100D. Because the K100D is 100% better made.

For photos any camera would do actually. But for video things become quite challenging. Did you had anything in mind or a budget?
Gary Jahman No, I’m still researching & building my business plan so I haven’t set a budget yet. But I would just be filming short videos maybe about 45 seconds with close ups of the product
@@alissataylor8875 well if you don't want to spend a whole lot of money (up to $750) then maybe a Sony a6100 or 6300 would be good enough for your needs. Combine this with a Sigma 16mm or 30mm f1.4 lens then you can do both product photography and video.
The thing about product photography and video is that you'll need also some additional lights and the knowledge on how to edit it all.
