- Miraculous has never really been the pinnacle of animation quality, if we're brutally honest. It was always a little janky. A little rough. But I think that it has a lot of charm about it nonetheless. It was ugly, but we loved it anyway. But that doesn't mean change is bad, and the recent discourse around the new animation style for season six and beyond does have me baffled. And so here's why.
I honestly don't see much of a difference. But with this show, I'm more concerned with improving the quality of their writing.

What i don't understand about the new animation is how Marinette is the only one with a new outfit-

I mean we only got one trailer from one episode, probably one of the early ones. And we saw only 3 characters we already. I mean maybe Adrien will get a new outfit later. I don't know why yet but maybe it will make sense.
And Alya has a slight different outfit from the 2 seconds we've seen her in the trailer.

They all use the same base to their outfits in order to keep them recognizable for branding purposes, marinette keeps a black jacket with a white top and pink bottoms with added details like flowers and shorts instead of pants and it's the same for the others we just haven't got good looks, Alya has the same flannel and white top but has long sleeves and adrien also keeps the same white jacket and black shirt but his jacket also got long sleeves and a design on one sleeve that's hard to see from the trailers and marinette's biggest change was her bottoms so its likely the other will also have a few more we just can't see so i think we need to wait and see more because they definitely have adjustments as well

The fandom has already forgotten that there was already a graphic change in this series (Don't you remember Adrien's chubby face from the first season? It became less round in the second season)
I think people would be ok if that was the case but these don’t look like the same characters but older. they look like younger different characters. I just don’t like how the characters were age that’s my biggest complaint.

Personally, I’m among the group of people who don’t care about the art style change. I’m fine either way. I just want to see better writing going forward. I swear, for every good writing decision they’ve made to improve the show, they screw up something else.

The thing is that the animation looks way different from where it started in season 1. It looks like a whole other movie it doesn't look like a new season for the show, it's so dumb if they change their animation mid-season it doesn't make sense and that's why people are mad, the animation doesn't need to be changed juristically for it to be better but what I've seen so far it looks like they changed Adrian's face shape, Marinette's nose shape, like little things that makes them, they were expecting them to look the same and that's why people don't like it.

I personally LOVE the redesigns! Usually when redesigns come into a show, people start off hating them- then they inevitably grow on them and they end up loving them more than the original designs! (Ninjago fan here)

Honestly, they brought in the film designs and it looks so much better. Like in retrospect, Kai's hair in seasons 1-7 was concerning. And then the visual upgrade for Dragons Rising is also great.

a good thing to keep in mind is that animation =/= modeling style
animation = motion and movement
people are complaining about the 3d models, but we always welcome better animation
considering that the people who worked on the movie are now working on 6 I have high expectations for the animation to look a whole lot better and fluid
I don’t think we should keep our expectations high as (Dwarf) the new studio is being expected to work double the amount of episodes in less than a year compared to their usual two year production routine for 10 episodes like their previous well animated works on my dad the bounty hunter from Netflix

@@leonecorethe only way I could see them pull it off is if they split the workload with the old studios so they have more time and priority to work their magic, like about nine episodes or 7 episodes out of the 26 episodes since the production of this show is trying to drop in under a year

what you're referring to is not animation, it's the 3d modeling style
whenever it's about shapes, faces, models, proportions, lighting/shaders, it's 3D style and *not* animation
animation = motion and movements, it's what moves the 3d model around
The animation look great and the finish product will be even better.
The one thing I can say is that beside the animation I really hope the story will be a bit better going forward
My problem isn't that any of them look bad, they all look good. My issue solely comes with the fact that, of the 4 character models we've seen for it, they look lile they're from 2 completely different shows.

Personally I am in love with the new animation style i felt like that it was time for Miraculous to adapt a new style I understand that we are not use to it yet I give it a chance I just don't understand why people hated it when season 6 hasn't even started yet I like the new designs for the characters I am keeping my fingers crossed that the writing will improve still recovering from the season 5 finale season 6 will be a breath of fresh air hopefully

Also, how's this the equivelant of changing the animation style mid-season?
This is the start of a new season. And not just a new season, but a new era for the story. The antagonist is changed, the threat is different; it makes sense that they'd want the animation style to reflect that.
People just don't like change. Simple as that.
Sure, the new animation kinda looks bad in some parts (at least from what we've seen so far), but it's definitely an overall improvement over the show's rather stiff animation that we had to endure during seasons 4 and 5.
I think the change is needed. It’s been 9 years of the same thing. If they really want to make it good improve the bloody writing.
While I’m glad we’re having a visual revival I still worry that Dwarf(the new studio) is not gonna manage to animate all of those 26 episodes in less than a year under zag’s release schedule and tight network deadlines because when looking at the new studio’s other pieces of work (Netflix’s my dad the bounty hunter) they’re able to pull off movie tier cg for a tv show of 10 episodes in 2 years whereas with zag they’re being expected to animate double the amount in less than a year. I can only see them working with less workloads if they kept the other previous studios on board to animate the new models so the new studio can have their moments to fully shine, (annotation: having more money for your production doesn’t necessarily mean good animation when you are trying to have a show release in less than a year, this is more so the matter of time)
The only problem with Miraculous, in my opinion, is that it takes too long for something new to happen, like for a new hero or new character to appear.
Like I said in the community post earlier: What gets me is that everyone is so bothered and saying the animation style is terrible like we’re gonna forget all the errors of studio DQ 😭. I think this is for the best and the characters are designed to have more mature facial structures and better represent their cultural background. Idk why they want them reverted to the bobble headed kid style it was before I guess it’s the nostalgia blinding most

I honestly prefer the original art style of miraculous, and from what I've seen, the new designs look like very older versions of the heroes in the style of the movie. And why does Adrien's chin look sooooo sharp his head shape is like a triangle. Honestly, he looks like felix from the unreleased Miraculous animie.
At this point who cares if it's going to have the same absurd and mediocre writing it's had the last few seasons. Better abandon this sinking ship.

Me personally I think,especially with cartoon shows you can't change the amination style of the characters becuase then the feel and the vibe of the show is change.I will still watch the new season,i just hope the animation style doesnt change that much,the plot and character arc are most important.

i was mostly worried about the writing and character designs, really. i know i'd just get used to the animating style because that's all i can do. whenever the fandom complains about something, it's usually never enough☠
I like the new animation it's a mix of the movie and series since it's from the animators of the movie. Marinette & Adrien do look a bit older because it does pass a few months. For the height I hope they did make Marinette seem like she grew since she is now taller than Alya. People tend to forget they're still teens and girls can still grow a bit unlike guys who can skyrocket. I didn't want to judge Chat/Adrien new look until it's animated like I did for Claw Noir. I just hope the writing is better this season
I think in their adult form we will see Adrien/Chat in the long ponytail the fans want to see. Which I think they made Adrien look the way he does now. I get people are use to seeing the same animation or the weird/bad animation like DQ. I would prefer improved and new animation to make it fluid and clean. Like in One Piece in each arc the animation got better in each arc so that's the point with tv series in each season. I just hope we get the same characters looking older and maybe a change of clothes if they do it.

Dude Astruc is a WRITER. He never touched animation in miraculous. Sure he's the one who created the universe but people tend to think he's responsible for everything they don't like in the show. Like there are at least a hundred people working on Miraculous, with writers, animators, producers. Stop putting everything on his shoulders.
And how are people complaining about animation when we haven't seen the final product yet.
They literally couldn't keep Miraculous in anime style cause the dots on Ladybug's suit were very hard to animate

I've been 1000% out of the loop bc I gave up ojn Miraculous back in like... 2018, but I keep up w ur channel bc I like how u talk abt it and how realisitic u r abt it too hehe. I just googled and managed to see one image and tbh, it doesn't look bad at all. The change in 'style' literally just looks like MArinette and Adrien are high schoolers now but in the same style otherwise. I don't think it warrants such a reaction, but the Miraculous fandom has always been a bit bonkers and loyal, so I'm not surprised. Once it starts airing, whether the fandom likes th art style will come down to ONE THING: if the writing is good or not. Bc trust me, if the writing is ACTUALLY good, I can see the fandom adopting the new 'style' much better
I think people dislike that different designs of Adrien, whether for the movie or the new style, sometimes make him look more androgenous and less masculine. But since its pride month, the more chat noir looks like a lesbian icon, the better
I understand completely why some people wouldn’t like the new animation specifically Adrian I don’t have that much of a issue with it some people can call me a fake fan or whatever they want I’m going to say something very very bold. I think I prefer the new animation then the older animation I’ll admit that season 4 and 5 and the specials are praised in the fandom for the animation. Season 6 seems like it’s going to have more of Troll-hunters look to me but i don’t know it is a drastic shift but I like it way more than season 5.

I'm not even mad about the new art style but I'm pissed that they didn't try to give Chat Noir a new character design compared to everyone and now just looks out of place and ugly.
I just hope the writing improves but I have no faith, at this point, I feel like the show should be rebooted so the writers who know what they're doing can start over with a blank canvas instead of building on top of a foundation of dung.

im excited for the new animation honestly, and hoping to see better quality in the writing and execution (though not the most optimistic about it, still looking forward to s6 as is). my main qualm with the things we've seen in the leaks is the lack of care coming from the production team for basically everyone but marinette. her new design as both herself and ladybug is super cool and im so stoked to properly see it on screen, but hardly anything about any of the other leading characters changed at all. it makes it feel like they're not weighing their priorities properly, especially with adrien, because the designers haven't swiped two brush strokes on him and his design is collecting dust, which is heartbreaking since he's already neglected enough by the writers even though he's just as much of a main character as marinette is. and this applies generally too, the heavy changes in mari's new design contrast too much with the lack of attention to all the other leading characters aside from *just* adrien, especially considering there's (supposedly) supposed to be a big time-skip. i feel like they tried using alya to patch this up but failed miserably, literally all they did was cut her hair and roll her sleeves down, the lack of effort is blatant and, put quite bluntly, unflattering. so concluding the essay, thomas needs to stop neglecting the other important characters and adrien especially, adrien gets sidelined the most and is the least deserving of it because he has SUCH an important role in the show and thomas seems to be forgetting that.

I do hope they take these criticisms about Adrien/Cat Noir's design seriously, because this is a main character, and if it's THIS popular that people don't like his redesign, then they might be digging themselves a grave. (Not to mention this also affects Felix's design)
My one hope is that it doesn't regress to the tone of Season 1, I love the first few seasons, but those episodes are for kids. Seasons 3 - 5 are much more for a wider age range.
Season 5 especially was relatively an extremely dark season, dealing with pretty serious topics like heartbreak, politics, child abuse, suffering, manipulation, inadequacy, corrupt government, etc. so if they go straight back to the tone of season 1, I'm out.

I’ll have to see the leaks for myself to judge if it’s jarring or not, but I didn’t think the movie had odd designs at all. Yeah the characters do look different from the show, but enough was kept the same to where I didn’t feel weird looking at them.
My only issue is Adriens face, the fact that he and most others have the exact same outfits and that they all overall look younger
Honestly, I kind of like Adrien being a bit baby-faced! As far as I know, hes supposed to be a teenager. (Maybe 15-16 years old at this point?( So of course he'd still look juvenile- he's still growing! I feel like this new design actually shows his age a lot better than the previous one.
I loved the movie - Almost 3D quality, even though they looked a little different I loved the fact a deaf person could read their lips and their eyes and hair were better. I told myself they are from another dimension because of the changes of her yoyo how they met to they know each other's secret Identity and Chloe's mean girl preppy personality
The series Miraculous improved in quality from season 1 to 5, we don't want it to be down graded from realistic quality to (2D) being worse than season 1; what drew me to Miraculous was the realistic almost 3D quality the coloring highlights shading shadowing, it will greatly disappoint me if the quality finished look isn't.
I don't care for anime where they distort the faces and detach their heads and other body parts and making them look like babies in onesies with no hands and feet for any reason and I don't like one dimensional
I have a higher standard for animation sense I know they are capable of doing high quality
I think the reason a lot of ppl are upset with it, and the same reason i am isnt because it’s necessarily bad, but because the original animation is what everyone grew up with. It’s nostalgic and after all these years seeing them look a certain way, seeing them look any other way (for the show at least, the different animation for the movie was fine) just feels wrong.

It's similar to the movie. But I just really hope that they didn't need to do that midway of the series. But sure, anime series does this all the time. They also change animation studios and we also notice it but watch it anyway (as long as it still looks good and not a total downgrade). So it's just like that.

Here’s my thing. I didn’t get what people were saying when they said Cat Noir looked baby-faced because he looked very similar to me. However, then I realized they were mostly talking about one frame

it's not the animation that will make people remember the show, it's the story and how it made them feel, I remember in season 1 all episodes were the same, an adventure and capture the Akuma, etc, in seasons 2 and 3, we had actual development in the story secrets and theories, and each episode built more the world of miraculous, season 4 and 5 it seemed like they just had a bigger budget and just started mass producing episodes with low quality and terrible writing, come on how many fake reveals did we have, Adrien basically became an NPC and ladybug and Alya took over the show, I used to be so hyped for each episode, now I don't care much since all episodes look the same.

The upgrade with the new designs and motion are closer to the shows original goals visually yet people still complain and want to keep their mobile game ad animation😭. This resistance to change is literally so similar to the backlash when SpongeBob’s animation became more dynamic and expressive after the 2015 sequel
I think people just are so used to the crappy animation that now it being a new animation style reflecting the movie but still sort of in-between is just throwing people for a loop.

The Thing with the Animation is that ppl (incliding myself) grew up with that style like yes there isn't much of a difference but we grew up watching that front 6-16 and the fact that that'll be gone makes it hard for a lot of ppl to move on but yeah I get that the fuss abt it is a little bit out of hand

The old animation style was pretty uncanny. The models were sort of off putting. Plus, the quality skipped around a bunch. I'm sure the new style will be just as strange though. It's not like I could do better myself lmao

Keep the new quality with the old designs. That way the characters look great, alongside having textured hair. The movie designs are a happy medium. At least you could tell who Adrien was.
We all know that we're still gonna watch, no matter how mad the writing or the animation is, we're addicted. We're an addicted fandom. Very.
I’ve gone three for three on a change in art style seeing a significant dip in overall quality for a show, with Highschool DxD, Maken-Ki, and RWBY. Hopefully Miraculous changes that trend, and the new visuals are definitely an improvement from the original, which is a change from the other three, but I can’t say I’m too hopeful.
I Might Not Mind The Animation Change (From What I Hear), But As Long As Thomas Astruc Is Gone And His Dumb Decisions Are Undone, I May Give Season 6 A Chance.
I'm pretty sure Thomas is still on the writing team, he's just not the director anymore. I could be wrong tho.

I am fine with aging up the characters but the new style just doesn't give the same vibe as the show. I see it and the movie part of an alternate universe. It just isn't the same. Adrien especially looks younger, more feminine, his eyes are horrible. If they changed Adrien I think the backlash will die down. I want a back button, honestly. I think of the new style as Sonic the Hedgehog but in the reverse, I want the original back and I want the fans speaking up against it to help revert it back to the original with some heightened animation but not a new style. The style sucks.
Honestly I don't like the Cat Noir design, Adrien is fine but Cat Noir well, not so much in my opinion. Besides that, I love the change, my only issue is the animation looks sosmetimes... too gamey? I know its Unreal Engine but it feels weird

i’m not sure why adrien character is the one to get the most unnecessary change. i still don’t like the adrien design for the movie but the other characters were gorgeous i just couldn’t get behind adrien because he felt like a different character. in this one he just looks completely different again.

Actually I saw some of the leaks and I think it's such a downgrade for the series it's as bad as the art style change as it was from Ben 10 Ultimate Alien and Ben 10 Omniverse it's that bad of an art style change they need to go back to the old one

I actually like the animation, I just think the STYLE ITSELF is way too different from the movie to the series. They could have lightly changed it, while still keeping the sprit of the last style. I feel like the heart was a little lost. I’m excited for everything else.
I'd rather have a quality in writing than animation.

Fun fact: the most dangerous Miraculous of all is the Black Cat Miraculous. Literally able to destroy an entire world (as seen in the episode Cat Blanc) the Holder of Destruction also has insanely thick armor (as is implied when Adrien and Marinette 1st swap their Miraculous by accident and Adrien says "Your suit's more easy to move in"). The Black Cat Miraculous Holder is also an expert offense partner. This is what makes the Black Cat Miraculous so dangerous. And that's just a couple things that it's shown. And what makes it the most dangerous out of all the Miraculous.
See i love the new art style but they did adrien dirty like marinette got a makeover but what about adrien? The clothes are the same the cat noir outfit looks like a cheap cosplay and the face shape is too long

I don't mind the style change. It's just even if it looks pretty, it wouldn't matter much if the writing is just bad.
Also I'd just fcking laugh imagining a well rendered scene of Marinette doing the most wacky and stupidest sht ever hehehe 😂

I just really really want better writing, they absolutely ruined the Gabriel arc with him making a wish and not getting any consequences, and then keeping adrien out of the fight entirely? Awful
I need a better story, the plot has so much potential!
