ROGUES are SNEAKY, CHARMING, AND CUNNING. ROGUE BUILDS are very different between the two games. D&D 5E ROGUE BUILDS are balanced between exploration, social, and combat. BG3 ROGUE BUILDS seem to be more centered around combat. The ROGUE'S SNEAK ATTACK REQUIREMENTS have also changed between the two games. Which game has the BEST ROGUE BUILD? DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS 5TH EDITION? or BALDUR'S GATE 3?

Tbf on tabletop dnd, where you have a whole party, a rogue that is bad at combat and constantly hiding is a big liability, you can't always hide the whole party and usually everyone has to take the stealth test.

@@alexandresilveira6905 yes, a rogue that’s bad at combat it a liability, but that’s the same for every class. I would say that a rogue is for utility/scouting, and should not be in combat unless at least the tank is there too. If they can kill the opponent before initiative, obviously that doesn’t count as combat.

@@alexandresilveira6905 It depends on the type of game you're playing. In a combat-focused campaign you obviously wouldn't want a PC who's bad at fighting, but a more exploration/rp-heavy campaign can be led by a full non-combatant party, and even a balanced combat/exploration/rp one has a certain margin of error for not combat optimized PCs.

You can see the bias here. BG3 Rogue is better almost every way. That extra bonus action is borderline op. It lets you hide, attack and than hide again, which isnt something a Rogue can normally do, and a myriad of other ways you can mix that, that makes them more Rogue-ish than 5e. And keep in mind that hucking items like potions can AOE heal your team, and you can still attack with your bonus action. So while hiding, you can pop out, huck something, Move, ranged attack someone, hide. The Gorilla tactics are crazy good. He must just be bad at video games.

Though in dnd it is buggy in the fact that if you get sneak attack as an attack of opportunity before your turn that round it won't recharge until your turn. Secondly technically it is once per turn as that is what it states but I would need to do some testing in game to see how it works fully. And once per turn can be a buff depending on your initiative order because you could get your sneak attack earlier then you would otherwise if you get an attack of opportunity on an enemy earlier then you in initiative 1 which could mean the difference between taking a shitload of damage or killing a powerful enemy because usually boss monsters have high initiative scores so they will probably beat you initiative if you don't have alert

Also they played pathfinder, where all rangers can get pets (it's 1 of 2 options and the other one is super boring). So Trinket already existed before they even played D&D 5e. So really the only thing that made sense for her was to pick beastmaster, because that subclass let her keep her pet she'd been playing with for a while at that point. And there's no wrong way to built a character anyway, just the way you find fun. Not all people (I would argue most) care about doing the most damage. There is a lot more to a character. If you engage into combat with all your characters and then cast Invinsibility (or drink a potion) on your Rouge afterwards, then you can actually sneak up to the Enemy and pickpocket them.
Pickpocketing in BG3 works on the basis of dice rolls - you roll every time you try to steal an item.
So if you manage to roll successfully on all the Enemy's items, they will not know you are there and therefor won't attack you - they will keep focusing on your other characters instead.

      I will start with this:
The whole point, is that you don't have to do this.
BG3 has tons of options like this one, that aim to fullfill the smallest of the players' personal fantasies.
The option exists literally just so you can use it, if you want.
As for "why" would anyone use it:
Pickpocketing brings up almost all of the items the NPC has in their inventory, with few exceptions (nothing specific - it's just a bit randomized).
That way, if you pickpocket a weapon from the enemy, they can't use said weapon in combat - same with scrolls, potions, bombs, etc.
This is purely a fantasy of "play however you want" and that's really all there is to it.

Every class in BG3 can use items as a Bonus Actions, even in DnD 5th edition, most DMs allow the use of non-rogues classes to use specific items as a Bonus Action, since it is basically the core feature of the Thief Rogue subclass, it makes the feature kinda pointless so the implimentation of an additional Bonus Action was establised.
And with this feature at having 2 bonus action at just level 3 makes dual wielding a viable and strong fighting style. While in 5e, dual wielding looses it's value when your greatsword wielding Paladin reaches level 5.

Dont get me wrong, I LOVE BG3. Love love love it all. Just my start being a 5e rogue and a 1e illusionist (just kill me now getting one even levelled up was so painful but she who survived will always be my love) just was a bit more painful than I would have liked.
