    RANGERS in DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS have gotten the reputation on being the WORST CLASS IN D&D....and why is that? Maybe its because of the notoriously bad BEAST MASTER SUBCLASS. Or maybe its because fans don't know how to make a RANGER BUILD. One thing is for certain though, BG3 RANGERS seem to FIX THE RANGER and listen to the issues players had with the class, and MADE THE RANGER THE BEST CLASS IN BALDUR'S GATE 3!

    To clarify: For 5e, im basing everything that is found in the PHB since that was the official publishing of the classes and the one that every D&D player has access to. Yes I understand Tasha’s fixes the Ranger, but you shouldn’t have to buy a WHOLE NOTHER BOOK to have the “correct” version of a class 🤷 Just throwing that out there.

    • @syvajarvi2289
      @syvajarvi2289 7 месяцев назад +51

      I think we all appreciate the clarification, but even the PHB ranger wasn’t that bad. Most players focus on Hunter’s mark as being the main ranger spell to get an additional die of damage but in reality once a player discovers hail of thorns or zephyr’s strike for the BA concentration spell depending on whether you are a martial or ranger player, you’ll never look at hunters mark again unless you are tracking an NPC for an extended period of time.

I feel I play them pretty well and they are pretty useful for their party. It still takes work to make sure I build the ranger right to insure they are good for the campaign they are in though, I will admit that much. It takes a lot of working with the dm when selecting things and discussions with my party and having a good eye for the story direction and the party composition to figure that out. But, I do like having played BG3 with my brother and playing a ranger character. Had to figure out the differences and adjust my play style but my brother thinks the class is pretty neat too, which he didn’t realize because of ranger’s old reputation. I don't think it makes alot of difference, unless you are also using sharpshooter, at this point we are locking Ranger's into a specific playstyle to be good. Aso you know crossbow expert and hunter's mark can stack right? Especially if you are fighting a single target, so you don't need to use your bonus action to move hunter's mark. It also requires you to be using a hand cross bow. Extremely limiting play style don't you think, shouldn't a class not be locked into one specific way to play that is the only good one? Spike growth is exceptionally situational. I've seen it break combat encounters, I've also seen it be entirely useless. Conjure animals is again situational, entirely dependent on whether your dm lets you summon fairies to turn you into T-Rex. Goodberry is quite literally only good if food is what you are concerned about, 8 hit points as 8 actions is way to long of a use time for it to be any good.
      The play pattern cant really be to cast a big concentration spell and use attacks when the only big concentration spells they have are situational at best. Which is my entire problem with the old ranger, everything is situational. Not in a forest, fighting specifically trees? Too bad now you don't have any class features.

    I main rangers. And love them.
    In 2 campaigns I play, my ranger is both the party leader and Tank due to my abilitys and attack power.
    People keep complaining about rangers, but they let you tap into many different abilities, and if you plan your ranger around the campaign, they can be busted.
    My natural explorer is for swamps and forest, and we are in stuck in a mansion.
    But that mention is inside a swamp so I get my proficiency as a result because we are stuck on the property, not specifically inside it.
    My gloomstalker gets a plus 8 to initiative.
    I get extra attacks,
    Advantage on attacks once per turn,
    Can force disadvantage on 1 enemy attack once per turn,
    My stealth checks are an 11.
    With pass without a trace even a nat 1 is a dirty 20.
    With some armor and dual weild feat I get a 19 ac.
    Rangers are great IF you spend time learning them and prepping for your campaign.

    The only real BAD Ranger build in 5e was the Beastmaster subclass from the PHB which was severely underbalanced action economy wise. The Hunter worked just fine, and classes like Gloom Stalker and Monster Slayer from Xanathar's made them almost a bit too powerful. Tashas optional "fixes" really don't make that much of a difference in that regard, but make them flavorwise better in general. The hide thing first and foremost.
    Yeah, Favored Enemy and such didn't work as they used to in older editions, but the point with 5e rangers was never to lean as hard on that as older editions did anyway.
    The most powerful single damage dealer in our campaign is a Monster Slayer Ranger. She's nigh untouchable which for me as a DM makes balancing encounters a headache sometimes. And we're experienced players who's been around for a while, so go figure.

    I'm not sure if WoC just tries to stay true what would be considered 'pure' DnD based on previous editions, but it is fairly obvious that with how many balancing issues the game has that there's some stagnation or bias in the development process. Larian gets a hold of the same abilities, decides to increase and respect player power, and is basically universally praised for it.

  • @MemoristCed
    @MemoristCed 7 месяцев назад +19

    But when a long train of nerfs and recalculations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces poor design to reduce a class under absolute obsolescence, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such blunderment, and to provide new rules for their future rangerity. Such has been the patient sufferance of these players, and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Gameplay.

      @@vitorapereira9469 OP?? Circle of Spores is absolutely TERRIBLE. Their main feature, which takes an action to use despite moon druid using a bonus action, can be taken away after a single round of combat because it's reliant on you having the Temp HP. The reaction damage is inconsistent and very weak. The nature of the extra melee damage requires you to either always have a pretty bad concentration spell active, or become M.A.D., and at higher levels it becomes SO obsolete, because two dice of damage plus wisdom is pretty decent at low levels, but as soon as you get to like level 5 it's bad. the zombie uses the TERRIBLE monster statblock and never gets better, despite plenty of other similar spells and class features (like wildfire druid) having their minion scale with you. and Spreading Spores completely goes against EVERYTHING all of the previous features give you, including the added protection of your spore aura, in exchange for a TERRIBLY underpowered and tiny AOE effect.
