Yes as long as you see a new item. As an example take a Nike swoosh. There is NOTHING you can do to a design where implementing that swoosh would make it not recognizable as THE Nike swoosh. However if what you started with is not easily identified once you are done transforming the design into your own THEN you are safe. Sometimes it’s nice to use another designers design as a starting point. It helps generate your own ideas and gets the creative brain flowing. But in the end the NEW design should be your own.

That is rough! I have not personally had that experience on any platform except The Hungry Jpeg, however I add something there once a year lol
