    Hey, im mexican and have grown up my whole life eating homemade tortillas and to keep them soft as soon as you cook them put them in a kitchen towel when your done you keep the tortillas in the towel and put them in a ziplock bag and there you go 😊

      I agree. I’d add, when you reheating them make sure the heat is very hot. If on medium heat they dry out and crack. Make sure to keep and eye on them so they don’t burn.

    One thing I really appreciate about your videos is how you show that a slower paced life with kids is achievable. All I see on social media is Mom's talking about how exhausted, and overwhelmed they are. Not saying there aren't times when you're probably tired or overwhelmed, but you seem to be such a peace keeper in your home. It's so encouraging🤍
    I honestly think it has a lot to do with the overstimulation of our children, and even us. We moved our tv out of our main living space, and it already has made such a beneficial difference in our home.

    • @KewBlinkla
      @KewBlinkla Месяц назад +10

      You’re right! But it’s also best to remember this is a snapshot. We don’t see that her parents and Zack’s are available to help, that Zack is super involved (which is sad that isn’t the norm), living in a relatively cheap place, and success on RUclips (not that she didn’t work for it!). These things take a lot of stress off a mom but they are NOT normal for many. Completely forgetting that can make other moms feels like they aren’t good enough

    • @sparkledwings4648
      @sparkledwings4648 Месяц назад +4

      @@KewBlinklaI remember way back when I discovered her she had a 5am routine video when she had only two kids. It was WAY more relatable and no cut outs of the messy parts of motherhood too. Now it’s completely shifted. All about how her videos look. Maybe some like videos like that but it’s not the reason why I hit the subscribe button years ago.

    • @Ray-pt5bi
      @Ray-pt5bi Месяц назад +3

      Oh She mentioned being burnt out every now and again, I positively believe there Is stress and heaviness in her Life, but also lots of light, and that's what She shares with us. ❤

    • @LMJ-ly8ug
      @LMJ-ly8ug Месяц назад +1

      @@Ray-pt5bi Yes like I said they're are probably times where she is burnt out, and overwhelmed. And that's totally normal, and okay! But from my experience often the energy you put out is the energy you get back from your children. If you simplify things and are less stressed (where you can be), children will likely follow suit.

    • @WhimsicalCrochet
      @WhimsicalCrochet Месяц назад +1

      @@LMJ-ly8ug she is probably usually overwhelmed lol, everyone is now a days. I’d argue that these are the highlights and the good moments, she’s mentioned many times that she made it a point not to share the bad moments due to her children’s privacy. You have to remember that people only share the good on social media (thankfully she does so for good reason.) She shows about 10% of her day. I highly doubt that majority of her day is that calm and serene with children, because that’s not real life. It’s funny to complain that people talk about how exhausting motherhood is, because I guarantee that’s exactly why she doesn’t feel comfortable talking about that more. People get annoyed at mothers expressing real life emotions and reality, they only want a staged aesthetic video to watch. Although I do agree that her videos truly are an art, and she clearly enjoys staging it as so, don’t act like this is an accurate representation of how her days go. It’s not. It’s meant to be video art, not a documentary. Don’t complain about mothers who tell it how it is, because if it wasn’t for them a lot of people would wonder why their lives don’t look perfect and serene.

      I’m assuming she HAS to have some help of some sort. My husband is on the road weeks at a time and I have 3 under 4 so there’s no way my days would look like this everyday on my own lol I laughed when she said she cleans her kitchen before she cooks. Dishes all emptied out the sink and all. Idk that’s not realistic for everyone. I have a kid saying, “wipe my butt” and then the baby wakes up. Then another kid spills something. Dog needs out to potty. Real life things. No way I couldn’t get all the kitchen clean before I cook in this season of life. I’m usually scrambling to get dinner done as quick as I can. So don’t compare.

    Im hispanic, and always struggled with tortillas as an adult until I switched to a recipe that uses butter or lard rather than oil. That was the game changer. Even with plenty of rest time, the recipes that used oil always produced tough dough and tortillas that would break. With the recipe that uses butter or lard, the tortillas are so pliable that I can crumple them up in my hand and they wont break and they reheat for days to the same pliability. The dough even keeps in the fridge for days and remains easy to roll out. Highly recommend using butter/lard rather than the oil.

    Hi Delilah,
    I’ve been a subscriber since you first found out about your third pregnancy. Throughout the years, your videos have brought such a sense of peace, love, and inspiration that I am so grateful for. I am not a mother yet, but I hope to be someday soon. You inspire me to try my best to allow the Lord to guide me in every aspect of life, and my journey to motherhood. The cool thing too, is that I think you’re younger than me? I appreciate your honesty when it comes to struggles you have in your life and walk with God. You show your humanity but also glorify God while being real and honest. Your videos have also inspired me to try to cook from scratch and implement other habits that I’d like to have when it comes to homemaking and taking care of my family and household. Growing up, my mother was always in the kitchen, cooking, baking, and showing her love through meals and treats. She always tried her very best to provide for my brother and I, but also be there for us with her time. You remind me a lot of my mom, and that is the highest compliment I can give you. My mother is a huge blessing in my life. I really admire your boldness in sharing God’s love through your videos! God’s hand really translates through your personality, the way you hold yourself, and your content! I pray that God continues to use you as a vessel to spread the gospel and his love. I pray that he continues to give you courage and strength. May God bless you and your beautiful family! 💕

    Warm your leftover tortillas in the microwave by wrapping them with a damp paper towel or cloth. The steam will re-soften them. You can also seal the uncooked tortillas in an air tight bag. To keep them from sticking together, use parchment paper or cling foil. Salsa is: tomato, onion, and peppers (jalapeno). Some people skin their tomatoes by parboiling, roasted, or by singeing them on a burner. Don't forget to add cilantro and cumin for authentic Mexican food flavors! I hope this helps. ❤

    Tortilla recipe
    4 cups four
    1/3 cup lard/crisco
    1 tbsp baking powder
    1/2 tbsp salt
    1 3/4 cup milk and water (approx)
    Mix first 4 ingredients. Add milk and water. I like to have the milk and water very warm to the touch. Mix well. Dough should be quite soft. Form into 12 balls. Allow to ‘rise’ for several hours in an airtight container.
    Tortilla balls store well in the fridge for several days. I like to make them fresh every meal instead of reheating. The same dough works well to make fry-jacks. A common side for a Belizean breakfast.
    Heat skillet on medium/high heat. Take a 12”x12” piece of foil, grease with some lard/crisco, press out tortilla balls with your hands, pick up the foil and place tortilla facing down onto hot skillet. Remove foil as soon as you can by lifting up one corner and peeling the tortilla off. Brown on both sides. by not using flour and a rolling pin your tortillas will come out softer).
    Coming from someone who grew up making tortillas, I would say your dough looks too hard, therefore causing your tortillas to be dry and crack.

    I’ve been making homemade tortillas for a couple years now. I agree with another commenter that storing them in a ziploc once cooled will help. You may also want to play around with adding more fat into your dough. For 666g of flour, I use 120g avocado oil and about 1 1/2 -2 c of water. , and about 17g of salt, in case you want to give my recipe a try! Also, I’m also convinced that soft tortillas are largely attributed to a very well kneaded dough, with about 30 minutes of rest time before rolling out. Let me know if you try any of my tips, if love to hear if anything worked for you!

    For homemade tortillas, if you are eating them as soon as you make them, wrap them in a towel as you cook them. If you are making them for later, then whenever you are ready to eat them, wrap them in foil with a few splatters of water and heat them up in the oven for a few mins!

    What is the difference between a sourdough recipe and a sourdough discard recipe? I tried making my own sourdough starter a whilw back and it outgrew my container and made a huge mess 😂 i think i misunderstood the lady i listened to 😂😂 ill try again someday! I need a new jar 🤣

    • @jessicamccormick701
      @jessicamccormick701 Месяц назад

      Haha! It sounds like you made a really healthy starter if it outgrew your jar 😊 the difference is that a proper sourdough recipe uses active sourdough starter (when it's still bubbly and growing) and usually waits long enough for the sourdough yeasts to eat and process the entire dough, where as a 'sourdough discard' recipe typically doesn't take as long, doesn't require active sourdough starter (so you can store and stockpile anything you discard from feedings in the fridge and use it anytime for a few months) and doesn't have all the benefits of the sourdough processing the flour to make it easier to digest. What you make also won't rise much unless you are adding something else like baking soda in. People often make cookies, pie crust or crackers with discard - it's a great way to use it up or give it the sourdough flavour :) hope that helps

      I have trouble getting them round too. I did notice after each time she rolled the tortilla she turned them 1/4 turn. I wonder if that is the trick to getting them round.

    For the tortilla issue: maybe try getting the tortillas wet first before warming? My boyfriend will actually run each tortilla under the faucet and sort of massage the water into it before microwaving or heating on the stove, and it actually works pretty well!
