Damn, tough crowd. The set was great but some of the jokes went over like Che was playing another April fools joke.
this comment is made every year, and I believe the answer is that it's a big flat room that doesn't carry sound that well, so it sounds more quiet than it is.
Lots of Republican defenders in that crowd and they lost their collective ability to laugh after the 2020 election.
Which, by the way, was one of Colin's jokes.
Colin did a great job.
Bringing it back around to full earnestness at the end with his Grandpa was a solid choice. Most close out with a self depreciating bit about how they don't deserve to be up there. This was different. I enjoyed it.

Not only did I enjoy this funny and thought provoking address, I felt the need to comment on the NY Times critic, Jason Zinoman who panned it. It is increasingly frustrating that the NY Times is selective about when to allow comments on an article. Often the comment sections have far more insight than articles that may have an agenda. Colin Jost is understated but that forces the audience to make an effort. I loved his comparing himself to Doug Emhoff. They are both second husbands. and “It’s after 10 p.m. Sleepy Joe is still awake, while Trump has spent the last week falling asleep in court every morning-though Fox News just said he was being anti-woke.”

I will give it to Colin. He was far more even on both sides than I thought he would be. Of course the roast part is supposed to be about the current president, but his was about as good as it was going to get. The best part was how he trashed the media and their obviously uncomfortable reaction to the truth.
Brilliant. Sharp. Pulled no punches. you can smell the nature of the crowd, when Jost quipped about needing Tik Tok to document the next assault on the Capitol; nobody laughed.

President Biden was one of the few that got the jokes.
Some killer punchlines and a decent razzing on the Prez, but the delivery was slower and less energetic than most of other hosts in the history of this show (I mean, compare this to O'Brien's second hosting...). Jost is much better on that fake news show!
