I don’t think MacBooks have Face ID yet because Apple hasn’t figured out a way to implement their camera system into that thin screen. That’s also the reason why the front facing cameras on MacBooks are worse than iPhones and iPads, the can’t fit much in the thin display
Hold a camera that can see infra red ( such as a tv remote LED ) in front of an ipad / iphone and you might see that its using a bright infrared light to aid its facial recognition. Might be a depth perception feature. I see you mentioned the ir sensor near the end. How about repeating the test but with a printout of your face glued to a polystyrene or plastic mannequin head.
@@markhowards420 It's not sorcery, it's using thousands of infra red dots to re-create a 3D model of a face. Do you remember Microsoft Kinect, it's the same exact thing only shrunken down to fit into a phone.
The S23 Ultra still suffers from the same problem because it is mainly a hardware issue. Samsung's phones lack depth sensors, and that's why iPhones have larger notches.
Doesn't mean they can't make software improvements. I took some high quality face photos and displays it on my monitor. Still unable to unlock my S23 with it.
Face ID is too convenient to pass on if you use NFC often. If I leave it on a subway, I don't think a random picker will have MY photo! I should only be worried if I were a celebrity or I also left my driver's license along with the phone. If you keep the latter combo, don't use Face ID as the manufacturer does mention its weakness.
Excellent point. Even if someone has your picture, it's not easy to unlock, as I experimented with different angles, distances, and backgrounds to get this thing done. It's not as easy as it looks.
Just another point. Having high resolution images of your face on social media is a bad idea for this very reason. If someone you know steals your samsuck and then just goes to your Facebook or Instagram or LinkedIn profile and copies your face image. You’re screwed. Hell get into you’re phone and see those pics of you in Vegas with that tr@anny.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 yikes... that sounds like nasty skeletons in the closet. The good news, however, is that it's not as easy as you think. This took me much experimentation to achieve the results you see in the video. The distance, medium used, angle, etc all play a role in unlocking the phone with your face. Samsung lets you know before you register your face that facial recognition can be tricked by a photo and that it is the least secure method on their phones. It's not a design flaw, it was an intentional decision to remove their infrared scanners to improve their screen to body ratio. If you want the most secure method of unlocking your phone the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is what Samsung wants you to use. Just like apple pushes face ID over any other method.
Samsung makes no claims about facial recognition being secure. Samsung's preferred unlock is with the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which is much more secure than Face ID. Samsungs facial recognition is for convenience for people who don't need higher security. I use both. The fingerprint is great if you want to open the phone without picking it up. The face rec is great if you're holding it in your hand.
It is true that Samsung makes no claims about the facial recognition being secure, but disabling the faster recognition feature under settings is the problem. It’s supposed to make it more secure. People should still be notified about this issue. Also, the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner isn’t entirely secure, either: www.forbes.com/sites/daveywinder/2019/04/06/samsung-galaxy-s10-fingerprint-scanner-hacked-heres-what-you-need-to-know/amp/
@@WYSbyAdamLash I just read that article you linked. They didn't spoof the scanner, they created a new fingerprint. Nobody is going to do that for most peoples phones.
Just a bit of an inaccuracy in your comment, the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner isn't "much more" secure than face ID. Both offer enough security so that strangers can't unlock your phone, but two fingerprints being similar enough for it to be recognised the same is a higher chance than two faces being similar enough. So technically speaking face ID is safer, but in reality there's a miniscule chance of anyone unlocking your phone with either of the two.
I mean YES, Face ID has been very superior compare to any Android phone's Facial Recognition/even Fingerprint System. It kinda suck that Samsung discontinued the Iris Scanner/Intelligent Scan that was last seen on the Note9 wherein they could have just retained it on a bigger holepunch display. Now Apple caught up with the Hole Punch and called it Dynamic Island which honestly has been long present on Samsung phone's through Galaxy S10+/S10 5G. It's just that Samsung failed to utilize it fully and let Apple steal the idea and add it beautifully on their Face ID implementation. I love iOS' Face ID cuz it's more secure and all that but in all honesty the only thing I hate about it is the two-steo unlocking where Apple could have implemented the effortless Face Unlocking where you don't have to swipe no more after the sensot recognises your face. Pretty goofy inconvenience but nonetheless I wish Apple would still address it on the upcoming iPhone 15 series. #FaceIDisTheSuperiorOfAllBiometrics!
FaceID is generally more secure than Samsung's Face Unlock, and Samsung clearly states that. I agree with your opinion regarding Apple's unnecessary inclusion of the swipe to unlock the phone. However, it can also be problematic since the phone may be unlocked when you point it towards your face unknowingly.
I simply think that it kept recognizing you when you kept looking at it to see if it was unlocked and unlocked itself faster than you could see... But let's say it's true. If you truly lost your phone, no one would know what you look like to use an image anyway.. Only someone close to you could actually use this "image flaw" as a plausible jailbreak method...
@WYSbyAdamLash Thanks for the info and explanation. Question.. Is an iPhone depth perception actually "full proof?" Just wondering. I use both iphone & galaxy..
I understand that some facial recognition is smart enough to know it's a 2D image and therefore not recognized it, but what about a video of yourself showing your face, would it recognize the face because it would be 3D because it turns and moves?
Window Hello Face is not secured like FACE ID!!! If you closed ur eyes, Window Hello Face still unlock, FACE ID is STILL Lock! This Channel shoul make this test more
You are right about that. It turns out that Windows Hello can still unlock with your eyes closed, which may be a security flaw. However, unless you have a sleeping person in front of the sensor, there is no way it would unlock, even with the eyes closed, because it has a depth sensor like the iPhone. You can't unlock with an image.

Why would anyone need a face recognition lock? It's less secure than a 4 digit pin even. And some unknown data collecting companies are stealing your face photograph.
The new Pixel 7 and 7 pro have face unlock too, and the 6 and 6 pro did not. The way they've been talking about the feature overall, it seems very clear that it's unsecure and almost not even recommended. It's stupid that Apple doesn't include a finger print scanner in their phones these days but it's even more dumb that Samsung and Google both have such bad facial security unlock features
I read/heard that it's so unsecure that payment apps (including Google pay) require fingerprint authorization even if the phone was unlocked via your face. Aka Google themselves don't trust the feature. And I way way prefer Android to iOS, I use both but my android phone is my main phone. Galaxy S21, with finger print unlock only
Indeed, Samsung and Google both should increase their biometric security. Apple has been doing it right for years with FaceID, but it's about time they introduce Fingerprint ID as well.
Why would apple need fingerprint ID when Face ID is so much more convenient and also 10x secure. 1 in 1000000 failure rate compared to the 1 in 100000 failure rate of fingerprint scanners
@Slimere Woods The reason is simple: convenience. Fingerprint ID is more convenient, especially in the dark or when you can't look at the screen to unlock it due to whatever reason.
@@WYSbyAdamLashFacePrint ID I think that Apple introduces their new system with fingerprint and Face 🆔 at the same time.(Fingerprint on screen) But nowadays fingerprint on screen very bad security idea 💡 so it took many years to do that. Maybe even Face ID 2.0 will come faster…

When I had the Huawei P20 Pro, I was very disappointed when I called their customer service to inquire about security and encryption. At the time, Huawei devices were not encrypted, and that is a major security risk. Think about that before selling your phone to a stranger, for example.

Scrap that , wall street journal tried similar in 2017 on the iphoneX.
The only conclusion is that apple uses sorcery for face id...
@@markhowards420 It's not sorcery, it's using thousands of infra red dots to re-create a 3D model of a face. Do you remember Microsoft Kinect, it's the same exact thing only shrunken down to fit into a phone.
Anyone try this on an S23? I tried this with my picture on an iPad and I couldn't get it unlocked.
@UteZ I will repeat the test on the S23 Ultra as soon as I get it. FYI, both the s21 and s22 ultra suffered from the same issue.
Did the same test on my ipad and the S21 Ultra in a HD photo taken right now in good light and it didnt work 20/20 times I tried it. idk
This test was conducted in a unique and specialized manner, making it quite challenging to replicate.
The point of this video is not to scare you about Samsung phones, but rather, to show that it's possible to unlock with a picture. Watch my other video here to understand:

Trust me, with the iPhone, it won't work no matter thr position.
Yep my friend looked through it she was like I opened it with a picture and it turns out it works wtf 🙄 and there's no fingerprint on the galaxy tab a8 like they have to fix this
Since this video shows a older Samsung with a older version of OneUi. So the security of face ID should have improved right?
Unfortunately, things aren't different with the Galaxy S22 Ultra even with the latest firmware. This issue cannot be fixed with software due to hardware limitations (no depth sensor like the iPhone). Watch the same problem happening on the Galaxy S22 Ultra in my review here:
ruclips.net/video/KAm9zz7_8D8/видео.html
Samsung lets you know before you register your face that facial recognition can be tricked by a photo and that it is the least secure method on their phones. It's not a design flaw, it was an intentional decision to remove their infrared scanners to improve their screen to body ratio. If you want the most secure method of unlocking your phone the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is what Samsung wants you to use. Just like apple pushes face ID over any other method.
Windows hello is gold standard because it can't be fooled by twins
Really? Thanks for the info. That's awesome
We need the child's facial id.
Also, the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner isn’t entirely secure, either:
www.forbes.com/sites/daveywinder/2019/04/06/samsung-galaxy-s10-fingerprint-scanner-hacked-heres-what-you-need-to-know/amp/
@@WYSbyAdamLash NOTHING is entirely secure. The ENIGMA machine was cracked. If that can be broken, anything can.
@@WYSbyAdamLash I just read that article you linked. They didn't spoof the scanner, they created a new fingerprint. Nobody is going to do that for most peoples phones.
Indeed. The fingerprint scanner is still secure.
Indeed
Try print the picture of your face. Maybe the device can detect if it was from another device's screen
It won't work. It only works with a picture that has a backlit source like an iPad.
It is still a security risk that even Samsung warns you about when activating facial recognition due to the lack of a depth sensor.
@WYSbyAdamLash Thanks for the info and explanation. Question.. Is an iPhone depth perception actually "full proof?" Just wondering. I use both iphone & galaxy..
@@bravokilo1972 Yes, it is foolproof. You can't fool the iPhone's Face ID.

convenience

At the time, Huawei devices were not encrypted, and that is a major security risk. Think about that before selling your phone to a stranger, for example.
