    Fun fact: In the French version, the Sovereign Bulblax keeps the Emperor Bulblax name it deserves. The smaller ones are just called King Bulblaxes.

    A bit of a shame we didn’t really see any P3 bosses. It’s probably because of how long and phase heavy they are, but watching this made me realize I do miss the several minute long bosses offered in 3. Think the snow moth in 4 could have been more memorable if it had more of a 3 final boss treatment
    ----------
    Edit: Yeah seeing a lot of people say P4 is a sequel to P2. Not sure if I fully agree since it has as much P1 nostalgia as P2. Think they tried something different w/P3 and are just returning to formula in P4. Something I like, but think there's still wiggle room for more P3 love is all.

      I think it's mainly just because, simply put, this is more of a sequel to pikmin 2 than it is to pikmin 3. Pikmin 2 didn't have anything like that except for the final boss, so neither would 4.

      I actually feel the same but for the opposite reason. I never liked the Pikmin 3 bosses very much because the phase-based fights felt very game-y and unnatural, like they belonged in Zelda or Super Mario Galaxy. So I think it would have been nice to see the fights reworked into the classic Pikmin formula.

    I think my favorite thing about how Pikmin 4 approaches its bosses is that it really feels like you can just stumble upon them anywhere in the world, just like in Pikmin 1. Yes, they're not the super video-gamey three act huge spectacle bosses from Pikmin 3, but the wonder on going through a glass wall only to find a Sovereign Bulblax on the other side is something that really didn't exist in 2 and 3.

    Most bosses in Pikmin 4 are a joke because of Oatchi's charge and the Ice Pikmin (the Water Wraith and the Snowflake Buttertail are an exception, until you reach a certain point during their boss fights). Great work as usual, I'm loving these Pikmin videos. And I 100% agree about the Waterwraith. I love how the Engulfed Castle takes cues from it's predecessor with the music and floors that have very similar layouts and enemies to what was in Pikmin 2. But I wish the Waterwraith did something to spice it up. To throw off the veterans, they should have had a hidden mechanic where the WW's 5 minute floor timer decreases by a minute for every floor you get through without it spawning in. That would've been a great mix-up for fans.

    I never realized you could rush Oatchi at the Gildemander to knock its armour off, and it's honestly a lot of fun to fight just by chucking Pikmin at it. You need to circle-strafe around it to stay out of its tongue range, and then distracting it to let your Pikmin destroy its gold pieces before it can recover them is surprisingly engaging.

    The water wraiths are a tad nerfed from Pikmin 2 too, which I'm not sure if you realised, as they now seem to have a patrol route they tend to stick to, only breaking off from it to chase you a bit but if you go somewhere like a dead-end or somewhere they can't fit, they turn around and go back to patroling.
    This was perhaps intended so that they would be, at the very least, possible to play around, rather than permanently homing in on any pikmin carrying stuff and making it impossible to put in treasures.

    • @sonicrunn3r895
      @sonicrunn3r895 Год назад +9

      They also added the arches and grass patches to indicate safe zones that the Water Wraith can't go through, which honestly while it is nice from a gameplay perspective (especially on sublevel 2 at the treasure pickup point), it does kind of reduce its threat a little

    • @Darca1n
      @Darca1n Год назад +2

      @@carnage0685 Yes, but they usually wouldn't go far at all, and some dead ends didn't have them turn around at all but rather just endlessly try to get to you, and overall they were just practically impossible to do anything around once they'd arrived.
      While now, as another commenter mentioned, there's even dedicated safe zones marked by green grass and such to mark where they will not roll ever.
      Sure, 2 might have safe zones of sorts too, but they weren't really particularly marked at all to my memory, and the wraith was so much more of a hunting danger that trying to collect more treasures after it arrived was a waste of time.

    I never played pikmin 2 or 1, so I was less prepared for a lot of these fights than a lot of veterans. When I stumbled into a long legs that had a freaking shotgun, you could imagine I was shocked, laughing hysterically, and terrified all at the same time as I constantly hit the rewind button. Contrastly, I found the iconic waterwraith extremely underwhelming, but still likeable due to mystique, and also was wonderfully caught off guard when they threw two of them in at that one point, I forget where. (I find ways to like a lot of the bosses in this game)
    During the night missions, despite not playing pikmin 1, I lost my crap when the smokey progg started to appear during the night missions during the cutscenes, and I was surprised you could manually open the eggs to avoid one if you wish.
    It would be a crime not to mention the groovy long legs, which is already from my favorite enemy family (yes, the longlegs) and provides a creative twist that functions amazingly, quickly making it one of my favorites.
    Finally, I would have to agree, the sovereign bulblax might possibly be my favorite in the game. It was a neat surprise that caught me off guard, and is difficult in a fun way.
    A little extra section regarding the bulbax;
    (If you charge directly at the sovereigns mouth with oatchi and a full squad, depending on the pikmin type (red and purples do the best, while ice and wings do the worst), you can kill it pretty quickly. I found this during piklopedia training when I was trying to determine the best types to fight it with. I was quite shocked how bad ice pikmin did, freezing the bulblax when attacking in this manner somehow leads to more ices being killed, and the ice pikmin don't do a good job at decreasing its health. Meanwhile, Reds can pretty much instakill it, with the only negative being red pikmin PTSD as some reds almost die to its tounge right before the bulblax dies, sparing them.)

    Both the Emperor and Sovereign Bulblax retained their weakness to bomb rocks in Pikmin 4, so.... yeah, I never really had a hard time with either of them.

      I remember being short on time and really wanting that black onion before the day ended, so it was either sacrifice all my pikmin to a boss I was unfamiliar with or stun him with a bomb and one-cycle him with a full squad of mostly reds. I kinda spoiled the fight that way.

    I haven't played this game yet, but one thing I've noticed is that it really seems like the enemies are more or less the same as they've always been, but the MC has had such an overall in abilities that seems like it just unbalances a lot. In Pikmin 1, the Armored Cannon Beetle could be really difficult to beat without losing a lot of Pikmin, because you had to manually aim at his weak point (after figuring out how it worked in the first place) and then gather your Pikmin up behind it to start throwing them at its back. And while that wasn't too hard once you figured it out, Pikmin 4 looks like it just throws him in, unchanged, into a game where you have lock-on, charges, and the ability to keep all your Pikmin on Oachi (Oatchi? Idk how it's spelled) which eliminates almost all of the difficulty from the original boss fight. It looks like they've evolved the gameplay so much, but left the enemies more or less the same, to the point that most of them aren't actually designed to offer a real challenge.
    The Sire Hound, Empress Bulblax (in the small room), and the elephant looking one are the only ones that seem to actually be tweaked to offer a challenge that plays into what you're actually capable of doing. I haven't played the game yet, so I don't know for sure, but it's kinda disappointing looking at it from the outside.

    • @wr5488
      @wr5488 Год назад +2

      Some of the endgame fights are really good. Like every boss in the last cave are really really good with their environment. Like Masterhop/Sovreign making water puddles, or fighting Baldy in a pool, or Empress’ small room.
      Auto lock makes it a bit too easy but it’s still fun. Owtchi makes it REALLY easy if you max him out but if you only get a couple upgrades and don’t abuse the charge it’s great.

      @@wr5488 Okay, thanks for clearing it up for me, I guess there's not as much to worry about as I thought. And I've only heard positive things about this game so far, with the only negative that I could see being that it's easier than the older games (which are the only ones I have any experience with. I didn't have a Wii U and haven't gotten around to trying 3 yet). So I'll definitely have to try it out; but I definitely have this game to thank for making me play 1 and 2 again 😂

    Sovereign bulblax actually can get cheesed a little bit if you have your bombrocks, since that tongue is still mighty sticky. Just load up on purples, get him to eat a bomb (which is really hard because of the awful auto aim feature throwing it too far and rolling it under him, why was this not a toggle-able mechanic miyamoto?!?!), spicy spray and watch as he gets absolutely demolished.

    • @AlvinEarthworm
      @AlvinEarthworm Год назад

      The easier method to make him eat a bomb rock is to just stand in front of him holding one. He just scoops the bomb up with his tongue and shallows it.
      Just make sure your Pikmin are dismissed before you do that since they can get caught.
