I was fortunate enough to attend Morgan State University as a music major but I was in the bands. As the choir would practice I would hear the expertise of Dr.Natham Carter perfecting the choir into its world renown reputation. In high school I sang on the choir and also was in the orchestra. What drew me to Dr.Carter was his dedication and like he I was always the first student in morning choir rehearsel before the start of the academic classes.I was blessed to have as my teacher Mrs.Margaret Lindsay who was a guest member of the great morgan choir.I was at morgan from 1981-1985.How do I miss Fair Morgan.I will always be grateful.Dr.Carter no one to this day can best you.Why is not there a building in the Fine Arts that bears his name?
Mna.... I hope the new students in the Morgan State University choir appreciate that Fine Arts building they have now. It is the people in this video and ALL they that came before, who made it possible. God Bless you Dr. Nathan Carter.
This video played as I came out of a coma a few months ago && being a member of this choir blessed me w the opportunities to travel the world for free. I will forever be grateful for dr.Nathan Carter, The Morgan State Choir, Dr.Eric Conway && this video🧡💙!
The late Dr. Nathan Carter composed this arrangement when his mother died. It was his musical tribute and musical farewell to his mother. I was a music major and, on the choir when he introduced it to us, the music majors, which were the principal choir, the Morgan State Singers. The Morgan State University choir was the college choir. The Morgan State Singers were compiled of the music majors, with a few others, and we were the touring choir. I've been so Blessed to have learned and have had so many experiences under his direction. Today, people know of many house-hold names in the music biz that were under the direction of the late Dr. Nathan Carter. We have all pressed our ways on our musical journeys; however, we all still love each other, respect, and cherish each other.
I can't explain to you how much Dr. Carter affected me, both personally and professionally. I never would be where I am today without him. God Bless you Dr. Carter. You are truly missed.
Nathan Carter arranged the song within a inch of its life! I'm sure the heavens opened up whenever they performed this hymn, to get a better listen! I just wish the cameras had gotten the soprani who sang the descant before the very end! KUDOS as always to Morgan States Choir!
I was at this concert and all the Spring and Christmas concerts from 1982 - 2005. It is hard to watched this without crying. I see classmates and dear friends most of them are still here and some have gone to Glory. I was at MSU at a Wonderful time 82-87, Dr .Nathan M Carter was a Gift from Heaven. Just listen to these people sing.
I was in the Morgan State Choir for a school year 1981 1982 and had a great experience. I am unfortunately I don't have any pictures or video for the time I traveled along. If you know where I can't find any photos let me know. I remember Nathan Carter and how much he put into making this a fine choir.
+Brenda Shuford Hello former roommate Liz Phillips I was wondering when you would show up on one of these sites. I would love to connect. Do you have a FB page? I was saddened when I found out you weren't returning to MSU. Hope to hear from you soon.
heaven came down for the piece,....i know for a fact cuz sometimes when my choir sings i know there are angels singing with them so i know when you put work into a piece God honours your work by allowing angels to bless that piece with their own heavenly voices
Trust you're not the only one. I can't believe it's been almost 5 years since his passing. He gave a lot to us who were fortunate enough to be under his tutelage.

The descant is fabulous!
Brings back great memories of my days on MUS choir under Doc. Carter. Sorry those were the best days and the best sounding of the choirs!

Morgan State Univ has always been beasts even when I was in college in 1993. Morgan and Kentucky State best HBCU choirs.

Wonderful memories indeed!
Does anyone know how to contact Elizabeth Norman?? I sang with the choir in 1985 and played the piano. She was my roommate.
She's back in the Windy City touring, She's an opera singer. I think my cousin Maysa stays intouch with her.

A choir with its own Orchestra is so professional to me. Well done over the years children of God. Keep the tradition up please.

Can't nobody sing that like Morgan and I graduated from A & T (voice major)
Glorious!!!
Wow! Just, wow!
Was I the only one who JUST noticed that was Darin standing next to Ernie. I barely recognized him. Another musical genius.
@sam95 - Yes that is John who is Patti's musical director!
Google "It is Well with My Soul" and read the story behind the hymn. It will really move you.
Well done. I can tell he was a fan of Brahms!!!
TheKingJacob1 Definitely the musicality reminds me of Brahms as well! ❤️
🙌🏾😭
Kenniethia Redden-Mitchell was not one of the ladies singing the descant. Does anybody know who the third lady was on the descant?
