You're comparing apples to oranges, mate. Tesla is aimed at the mass market. Porsche is aimed at moneyed enthusiasts. Totally different market segments. Hats off to Tesla for what they've achieved at mass market prices. Hats off to Porsche for what they've achieved for those with the cash to pay for it. This doesn't have to be a zero sum game. There's something for everyone.
One thing to change on videos with cars this quick: do some angles with the camera standing on the track while blasting off to get some sort of perspective on how quick it is. Just having a camera moving around inside and the driver saying “whoa” just doesn’t add to the sensory projection of quick. And 1.9 is insanely quick 😊
Imagine paying all that extra money to remove your back seats and all those other features only to lose 75 kilos😂 Buying a sedan without back seats is actually pretty stupid imo
?? It's 150 kilos saved over the standard. And the package without seats doesn't cost any more money than the other GT. It's just a different configuration if you don't want a "sedan" and want a pure "track car". The type of people who can pay this sort of premium over the standard Taycan are the type of people who might care a great deal about 150 kilos.
Some rich people who like Porsche will buy this Porsche in order to be able to get an allocation for a more exclusive future Porsche. Some very exclusive Porsche models can only be bought by customers who have a long history of buying Porsches.
Yea the Lucid Sapphire and especially this (I mean who approved this junk?) don't compete with Tesla directly, the Hyundai Ioniq 5N and 6N are going to compete real hard with the Model 3 P and Plaid.

I think Rory got this exactly right. The Taycan is in many ways a car without a purpose. It's not as much fun as a 911 and it doesn't offer the utility of a Tesla S. From a pragmatic perspective, the Tesla S Plaid, with the track package is a $110k car that can transport 5 people in comfort, had a great ride, is stupid fast, is crazy efficient, and can be driven across the continent with the world's best charging network. By comparison the Taycan costs $235k, has less interior space than a Tesla 3, has poor efficiency, continues to be way too heavy, and simply doesn't offer much transportation utility. Porsche really needs to do something about their hubris and instead of trying to one up the Tesla Plaid, a car that has a fundamentally different purpose than the Taycan, make an electric sports car that's really a Porsche. I would argue that the Tesla 3 Performance.....soon to be the Ludicrous is that. It will offers more transportation utility than the Taycan, will be in the same ballpark from a power to weight perspective, will be far lighter, and will cost less than 1/3 as much. Porsche needs to develop a serious competitor to the Tesla 3 Ludicrous, not the Tesla S Plaid. One is intended to be a sports sedan while the other is intended to be a rapid and luxurious transportation device for 5. Truly cars with different purposes. So Porsche, forget the 1,000 HP arms race with Tesla and instead do what you do best. Make a (relatively) light, agile, and fun electric sports car. A Porsche.

Looking at the amount of rubber left on the road during the launch, that torque will eat a set of tyres in a couple of thousand miles without too much trouble.
If you're constantly launching at the track.. then.. yea. You probably should be switching out your tires pretty frequently. No one says you have to utilize all of it. EVs tend to have great customizability with drive characteristics. Feel just as home (or at least reasonable) on the track as getting groceries. You can tune that torque right down until you want it again.

Slightly faster tire wear for an experience you can't get in gas sports cars anywhere you want seems like a non-issue for those to whom that appeals. What a silly complaint.
Regarding the Weissach, I like the idea of driving the equivalent of a sporty Chevy El Camino with an interior cargo bed accessible by doors on either side, and in, addition a trunk and a frunk! Not to mention it is the fastest street car of them all, bar none!. I like the fact that I can play with paddle shifters: right tap rocket mode accelerator, left tap for more (regenerative) braking. I also like the fact that it can handle even better than the Turbo S which by itself can prevent a dangerous high speed situation from becoming deadly. I like the fact that with the added Panamera's suspension system, it can offer a more luxurious ride to become a closer competitor to the Rolls Spectre while leaving it in the dust in performance terms; that system also providing unique, in addition to pitch, dive, roll control as well as (get this) 'Speed Racer' style lowering of the wheels to maintain performance traction when the car starts to go airborne, luxury touches such as raising itself for the occupants ease of ingress/egress. I also like that the Weissach, in particular, will hold more value (and potentially be a collector) than the rest of the electric motor battery cans on wheels because of it's specialness to the point of justifying an investment of ~30K for major service to bring back performance to 100% in 5-10 years. I like the fact that Porsche realizes it has to offer a Weissach package on the Taycan GT at no extra cost to remain competitive in the depreciating EV market (this may be the first and last time for a no extra cost Weissach package). I don't like the fact that the body is mostly indistingushable from the Taycans that came out in 2020. I do like the distinguishing Aero and the sharp metallic Violet/ Indigo (not purple despite claims) paint job. I like that , currently, there is assurance of allocation availability as opposed to archaic lesser performing ICE GT models. I like the different kind of adrenaline experience from having to harness a virtual lightning bolt under my ass in day to day traffic. I would not like to prove it on the track at the cost of a new set of tires.
I completely agree with you, Rory. We don't need cars like this BUT it has achieved what Porsche set out to achieve with this car and that is to set some headlines. It is impressive in its own right and it has set some class leading lap records. As they say "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday". They will sell more regular Taycans because the Taycan GT exists.
omg you are truly clueless. Which electric car has constant 1k hp output. Teslas? Man you are embarrassing yourself. Teslas have one of the lowest constant hp output in the industry. Have you ever checked the technical registration papers? The Model S Plaid has a 30min continous power output of 239kW/325hp. The Rimac Nevera? That's a 1900hp and $2Million hypercar. Go educate yourself
The other cars (plaid and sapphire) can not provide 1000 hp continuously. They overheat very quickly. Porsche is just being honest and precise about it. I suspect the real world continuous output is probably higher compared to the other ones.
Very good review! Had me smiling for most of it. I would disagree on the last comment from Rory, though. You can always go for the normal GT version and get one of the quickest most practical family cars on sale today. This special over the top version here was made, because the new platform was an ideal playing ground to showcase what's possible. And it is very impressive! And it is therefore also a statement to everyone out there that Porsche cannot be dethroned so easily for making some of the fastest road cars. It's a testament for leadership. I dig it. I'm sure they'll make a two door version of this two engine super monster power platform soon and that'll be the even more most insane thing to drive, if that is even possible... It's a spectacle and I am certainly a happy viewer
To conserve battery health in the long run. It's like putting a temp. limiter to your phone, you COULD push it to the max for hours on end, but that would make the battery obsolete very quickly.
As usual... To do sandbangging a laptime. 189 mph more than enough to be 18 faster than Splaid track package Maybe next on the Manthey Package, porsche will unlock that reall Taycan performance.
They aren't carbon sleeved and they also use tech to get it to 1100HP temporarily but not sustainability. Lucid barely got their 205mph mark with 1234HP while Tesla... the plaid can go 220mph with its limiter unlocked even with the motor still limited to 20k rpm by Tesla instead of what it is truly capable of... 25k rpm. Tesla is in another ball game when it comes to its motors sustaining peak HP and RPM. Two speed transmission is just compensating for electric motors flaw of not sustaining rpm at high speeds rather then fixing it. Tesla just fixed the issue instead of overengineering.
@@ruslan-albertokudaev What bs. Taycan has better cooling for the battery then the plaid. The plaid had to coast during its nurburgring run while the taycan didn't. So if the plaid can do 216mph with its limiter removed why can't the Taycan? It is actually quite simple: The motor tech is fundamentally different. You know how ev's suck at the top end and how the plaid ignores that? Carbon sleeved motors. Ev motors like that in the Tesla model 3 or porsche taycan can't sustain then 18k rpm and drop down to 16k... obviously not good for the top end performance of the car. But what about the two speed transmission doesn't that help!? It does, quite a bit... but... it doesn't solve the underlying issue.
they should put the back seats back in for a no cost option. while it doesnt have the seats, tesla and lucid can say that the laptime has a asterisk next to it because its no longer a 4 seater. Nice engineering sample though, shows what a all electric 911 could be like

They literally just ripped out parts, charge you for them AND add a premium because why not. Such a bad look for the brand.
Mercedes-Benz has great tech innovations, too. The EQXX is the most efficient EV car in the world. Tho not a production model it has nothing on it which can't be mass produced, some of the technology is actually already being transfered to the Mercedes CLA EV or the C-Class EV - cars coming to the markets in 2025. Mercedes autonomous driving system and infotainment and operating system is very good as well and will improve with the MB.OS which will be introduced in the CLA as well. And even tho the CLA is not specifically cheap it isn't crazy expensive either. It will start just below 50k. Big battery version with some options is 65k max. And what about the axial flux motors used in the upcoming high-end electric Mercedes AMGs? Those motors are one of the most lightweight and powerful electric motors in the industry.

@@almac9203 The turbo GT version is only 2 seats, has zero customizability and costs like 230k. Feels like it is just a special edition car. Far from a serious model S competitor that's for sure. If Tesla responds it is to maintain their halo effect not because porsche is actually being competitive. It has worse performance then a plaid, weighs more despite having 2 seats instead of 5 and less range. Porsche could only achieve a better lap time due to higher budget... aka spoiler, suspension, cooling system etc and also the car being wider by 2 inches, less tall and a smaller wheelbase. Is this car impressive? I think it kind of is but it would be much more so if the model S plaid didn't exist. The Model S plaid sustaining its HP has set an insanely high standard for high end ev's. And it will be hard to match as carbon sleeved rotors is just fricken absurd lol. SOOO difficult to manufacture even for such an experienced ev company like Tesla with the best engineers in the world it would of been very difficult... and they manufacture and engineer their own motors... unlike porsche who gets them manufactured by ZF. What is difficult about carbon sleeved rotors in an ev is the manufacturing which porsche has no control over to tackle such a difficult problem. Hence why they don't use carbon sleeved motors that sustain their rpm and HP. I think porsche will need 3+ years at least to make carbon sleeved motors... possibly longer but hopefully not.

Totally agree with the conclusion. A purpose-built 2-seater would be far better at the track, so let the family car carry a family - you can show off to 3x as many passengers too. Doing 0-60 in 2s is great, but there are more fun things for both driver and passenger, all of which don't need a million hp. Even the slowest Taycan has nearly 200hp/tonne, which is plenty for road use, a GTS would be a perfectly reasonable top spec and, as usual, still seems the one to go for! Seeing a GTS badge on a non-SUV Porsche always makes me think that person actually knows how to drive, more so than any Turbo.

All these people saying the taycan just like all EVs depreciate... are we forgetting tesla was the highest depreciation brand rate last year. The model s plaid literally broke a record with how fast it depreciated
Youre confusing depreciation with price cuts.
Regardless they all still pile up at dealers lots and will sell for nearly nothing when used.
What's the delta between the two? Just saying record doesn't really mean much if it is a few percent points. Personally, looking forward to picking up some used EVs for cheap, just not sure I want the first gen Porsche given the battery replacement cost was double Tesla last I checked. Still, 1st gen low mileage 21 Taycan turbo s is fast approaching the under 100k mark. Very tempting.
Brand new S&X Plaid was 150k in 2021. In 2024 both are 89k after +12 price cuts. Prices will continue to drop while tesla's get even faster, longer range, faster charging, better reliability/durability. The end of ICE is here....
@@larryc1616 Internal combustion engines wont end anytime soon. Maybe in your dreams. When I see a Porsche I think in the back of my mind "Yep, built for purpose", purpose of fun. Porsche: Masterful engineering, great build quality, incredible fast in a line and around corners, great design, epic heritage.

Your impartial analysis. Spot on in my opinion.
What if the ICE Panameras had this body styling, Porsche would sell a boat load.
Doubt it
They sell much more Taycans than Panameras.
Imagine paying all that extra money to remove your back seats and all those other features only to lose 75 kilos😂
Buying a sedan without back seats is actually pretty stupid imo

Respect to Porsche for doing what they do best as an auto manufacturer; seriously stunned by the performance from the new Taycan.

I just love how people obsess over 2 or 3 seconds to 100, no one would notice the difference and you'd be a total knob to use launch control on the road.
I dont obsess over 0 to 100 times, but you can definitly feel a huge difference in terms of acceleration. Going from 3s to 2s is the same as going from 9s to 6s 0 to 100. As both is 2/3 of the original time, so you can for sure feel the insane power compared to 500ps taycan

A Porsche.
Tesla should be scared in general for their future
I remember when yall said this in 2012 😂😂 Tesla is here to stay especially since the other car manufacturers have to pay to use their charging network now 😂😂 WHOMP WHOMP

@@Cyrribrae So when exactly will you be able to use all that really, really expensive torque you've paid for (and no rear seats)? And what exactly is the point of having it when it's not even a good track car?
@@malph9216 ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
1) On the track, where it is an evidently great car. Since when did being in the top ~25 fastest road-legal production vehicles (gas included ofc) to run Nurburgring make you "not good on the track"?
2) Wherever you damn well please. It's your money. Like in any gas car, you can do things you want - just pay the natural consequences for having that fun. Slightly faster tire wear for an experience you can't get in gas sports cars anywhere you want seems like a non-issue for those to whom that appeals.
What a silly complaint.

Give me the sport turismo turbo gt
Comparing everything to Tesla, just shows how good Tesla really is.
How can other electric cars have a constant 1000+Hp, but Porsche of ALL brands can only give you 1000+Hp in bursts💀💀
Less strain on motor, will last longer and why do you need it all the time. Is 700 not enough 😂😂😂😂
Really?
omg you are truly clueless.
Go educate yourself
non-car people who get caught up with numbers 🤦♂
If it has a two speed transmission why is top speed limited to 189 mph while Plaid does 200 mph and Sapphire 205 mph?
Probably aerodynamics or artificial limiter to reduce strain
To conserve battery health in the long run. It's like putting a temp. limiter to your phone, you COULD push it to the max for hours on end, but that would make the battery obsolete very quickly.
As usual... To do sandbangging a laptime.
189 mph more than enough to be 18 faster than Splaid track package
Maybe next on the Manthey Package, porsche will unlock that reall Taycan performance.

Rory nailed it at the end. It seems like there is a power war on the ev side. With rimac, tesla, porsche and even NIO
In terms of how effective they are with the HP, tesla holds peak power longer and generates more torque at higher speeds.
Why would anyone need a 4 door with 2 seats?? Who is the GTS Weissach marketed to?
@@epmolifor me the problem is it seems like a half assed job. Like what are those doors for? absolutely nothing! Remove them and actually save a lot of weigh and build a better track car. Lmao cheap and porsche never are in the same sentence

@@aftl_ryz8549 why not have a 2 door version instead of the weissach package? If the objective of the car is to be quicker round the track and the back seats are removed having 2 doors over 4 adds to the overall rigidity

The fastest electric golf buggy. Pointless unless you want to race.
Having driven them i admit they are: fast; well screwed together, and have good road holding, however, apart from the party trick acceleration, they are dull and soulless.
We haven't even considered depreciation...

@@e.ggamerguy5793 they should model evs after your brain. Few other things are so utterly smooth, should offer great aerodynamics
@@MaticTheProto Also, liking your own comments makes me think you don’t have any friends either.
Could’ve saved more without the back doors as there’s no back seats.
Yea, but the car would be another 100k more expensive to account for bespoke chassis manufacturing lol.
Reaping dividends from the Rimac collab?
Rimac? Don’t know them. Porsche has all the know how they need
@@MaticTheProto You don't know Rimac. OK. I suggest you Google Rimac + Porsche. And Rimac + Bugatti. And Rimac + BMW, as of yesterday. You'll learn exciting stuff!
@@Nico_lente ah, the tiny ahh brand with a rnd department that is likely infinitely smaller than that of porsche or any other brand they collaborate with.
These tiny brands need collaborations with bigger brands to stay afloat lol
@MaticTheProto rimac belongs to the vag group now, and most of the ev research, especially in sports cars, are made from rimac for other companies, rimac technology is in the audis and the porsche
@@MaticTheProto Sigh
Crazy how the 911 is half the horsepower and still faster around all tracks. Truly awesome.
Whats the point, go for a blast in mid wales and it'll be flat in 100 miles and you won't be able to charge it. Go on track, you'll get 20 mins and will have nowhere to charge it?
I don't think the type of person who would purchase this kind of car is particularly interested in going to anywhere in Wales.
Car manufacturers are not going to stop innovating because some rando on youtube comments doesn't have any foresight. Probably better you leave the thinking to Porsche's business strategists and engineers. Clearly it's not an activity suited to you
@@stormwindchampion3992Most people aren't interested in going to Wales 😂
Wales? Who even lives there
@@stormwindchampion3992 Wales has some great driving roads, 90% of Chris Harris videos have him driving on Welsh B-roads in a variety of cars so yes it is quite relevant to the people buying sports/super cars in the UK. Do you have any views on the race track comments?
I maintain the biggest problem with EV's is that you have to adjust your lifestyle to fit around them and they're competing with a product where you don't have to do this. Anyone who has £180k to spend should buy an M3 Touring and a 718 GT4 and be done with it.
Brilliant review 👏🏽👏🏽
You don't need that much power. How many of these speed freaks are ever going to use it? Just a pissing contest. Sad.
Some people use the circuit whenever they want to feel power.
