- So my good friend Al from 6 D Diesels has had this ols Mercedes 190E sat up at his place for a fair wile now.. i actually thought it was hust another imported 190E with some cool lights and some dodgy paint… oh how wrong i was!… this little car actually has 3.2 24v straight 6 fitted to it!… the M104 engine is basically the German 1JZ! And with a Turbo Planned for the future this will be one hell of an animal!! First jobs inc 6 speed manual gearbox conversion along with full re spray, Coilovers and some new wheels. All of the build will be uploaded to my new channel - The Bearded Restorer which will go live next month! Hope you enjoy this weeks video guys 🙂

Best in the business... cant stand watching other explorers. Not only do you have an extensive knowledge of cars, buildings etc.. youre well spoken, polite and seem humble af. Can watch these vids, when im not feeling the world and it helps me chill out.

That engine is a 3.0 M104, not a 3.2. The fuel injection side is original to that engine. It's not been carried over from the old 2.6 M103.
You can bypass the fuel pump relay on these very easily by jumping the 2 centre pins which will allow the fuel pump to run continuously.
I did 13 years working beamers mercs and the audi range. Now from memory there is a fuel pump relay in back of the engine bay. If they sit for a long time they get corrosion on the contacts and don't connect and thus don't start the pump. You can take the relay out and take its cover off and put it back into its mount after carefully giving the (contacts) terminals a scrape. Then try starting it. It should close the relay and start the pump. If that doesn't work try manually closing the relay. The pump should start. We had a dead relay in the shop that had a light and switch attached to it to quickly check the power in and out for testing the pump operation. That motor is the good one . The W140 6 cyl motors were garbage. The crap wiring looms for the coils disintegrated if you moved them . While you are playing in the fuse box check fuse number 7 or 8 ( for the heater fan) as the fan motor slowly seizes on its bearings and heats up the fuse holder melting it before it blows the fuse. There were a lot of them out there with an aftermarket fuse holder hanging loose in the fusebox. good luck.

If it had an engine swap, probably not. You have to find the right kind of people to pay big bucks for a project car.

Them fuel pump relays are easy to change or repair with the right tools.

Wow, the Mercedes is in really good condition, the wood, the leather, the body, at first glance it looks like a good car. But the yellow fog lights point more to a French model. In the USA and in Germany they are on the rise! When I think back to the fact that many years ago 190E 2.6-16V ended up in the scrap heap!!

Should be an exciting project Colin ,definitely the way to go dependent on cost auto to manual make the most of the oomph ..........should clean up well ...pity the golf convertible is your choice to go to make room although never seen it on RUclips ...👍

That will be a fun car, had a 320 coupe and it pretty fast. Maybe you could fit an intake airflow booster aswell, its a cheap upgrade.

190 is an absolute favourite and with that engine you have got something very interesting. Looking forward to seeing the progress. Al is an absolute legend at working out the issues!
Prior to 1967, Sweden automobiles drove on the left side of road as you guys do in the UK, in other words theirs vehicles were RH drive, then overnight on a designated day they began driving on the right side of roads with cars gradually switching to LH drive - a bit of auto history.

@7.14, Colin, never put your arm under a unsupported vehicle, if that'd slipped off the jack you could have ended up with a broken arm when it dropped down, only thinking of your safety mate

There needs to be a clean tank and clean fresh fuel before you turn it over. Maybe clean the fuel filter from the tank. I would never turn it over before I replaced the fuel. It'll ruin the injectors.

Love all your car videos but sorry we don’t get to see them as you are doing them up. That would be so interesting. There was only ever one video done on your reliant robin by Al and not the promise, second part of it which was a great shame. Every time we watch his videos, your car is still sitting there with nothing else done to it 😔
It’s not forgotten just awaiting the delivery of a replacement engine , the original was basically financially not viable and getting a good known replacement has taken some time.( no point buying the first one off eBay with the hope it works) I’ve finally sourced one from a friend and hopefully in the next few weeks he’s going to drop it off when he’s passing . So all going well and time allowing it won’t be much longer. Hope that clears things up for you Al 6DDiesels 👍

ABC 123K would be 1971 whereas K123 ABC would be 1992.
