My opinion is PTAC I'm using a GE Zoneline with Electric heat when heatpump cant cut it AC in summer its pretty good 7500 BTU 220v does 12'x25 i use it in my addition with R45 ceiling and 11 low-E windows mulled together very efficient for maintaining 45 winter 80 summer the dogs own the space along with equipment 😅 in winter the auto climate control which is set on dip switch board is only used never physically turn it on
The natural gas heater in my shop is on its last leg, it's now to the point it is louder than my 5hp stationary compressor. So, I just installed a 21,000 btu Pioneer mini-split in the shop. When I was first looking at them, Menards had them on sale earlier this year. I did find that the ones at Menards was actually still more than they were through the manufacturer's website. Then after I started research them on the Pioneer's site that the one at Menards was the lowest level one they offer. The ones at Menards were only rated down to around 15 degrees. The next step up went down to around 5 below zero. Then the one I ended up with is rated to 21 degrees below zero. The one that was rated down to 21 below was only around $400 more than the cheapest one and has higher efficiency than the ones that aren't rated as low. When I got home from work this morning at 6.8 degrees outside the shop was a nice comfortable 60 degrees. Biggest issue is with the Pioneer they don't come with the precharged lines like MrCool does. But I was able to cut my lines down to the length I needed. Was able to do my own install with a AC vacuum pump and AC manifold gauges from Harbor Freight and an adapter to mate the line connection from the gauges to the pump. Only thing that I don't care for is, the thermostat/remote only goes down to 61 degrees. I normally kept the shop at 45 unless I was out there with the gas heater. There is an "away mode" that drops it down to 46 degrees but, for some reason the fan inside runs all the time on that mode. And I'm not sure how much that would reduce the life of the blower motor. Guess it's to keep air circulating to prevent freezing in far areas of the building.
@matopezuta2050 I've been looking at the pioneer units as well impressive what technology done. Take a look at the federal rebate, you should get 30% back!
@@k6outdoors Yep, planning on that rebate. Allient has a rebate on them also, but you have to go through an HVAC installer as the rebate is applied only at the wholesale level. What I saved doing it myself without getting that rebate from Alliant by not paying someone to install it. More than paid for the tools I bought to do the install. And, since I bought the tools, I also put a small one in our master bedroom addition that is far enough from the furnace it never got fully heated or cooled. Biggest thing I wasn't figuring in was the time needed for site prep before install. I have vinyl siding on the shop that I had to take down and put up blocking to install the outside unit on the wall so I didn't have to worry about snow buildup and running the conduit since I didn't want to crawl around in the attic full of fiberglass insulation. I had probably a day and a half of site prep before installation and maybe 3 hours of installation time.

I might’ve missed it in the video. What’s the difference between the original eco 2s and plus? Is there any cost savings?
Really not much of a cost savings, added features like using an ecobee or remote sensors for locating cold spots within a room
