This video allowed me to buy a broken Series S for £40, the part for £13, and have a working Xbox after one afternoon.
Great Job!!!
Where did you order the hdmi port?
Same reason I came here looking to buy one for like 50 bucks came to see if it's worth it to repair
So you had a extra hdmi port handy?
@@Resolve_DigitalMediadon’t ask to many questions, as he’s lying through his teeth
Oh man, best video I've come across for this repair
You are a god bro, I love the precision and the lessons taught! Very professional and thank you!
I appreciate that!
That was amazingly professional, best video teaching how to change it, thanks for that.
Watching you work is quite a sight, very professional.
Thanks for the video. My broke a week ago. Got the parts in and followed ever step till the install of the hdmi port. I’m using a cheap army bought sodder device.it won’t melt the sodder wire. So I just cut the 4 holding pins off with finger nail clippers and hot glue/ double bubble ( type of super glue but industrial grade) then followed the install. Thanks for the vid bro.
You fix it
Yeah did this work ?
Great Job! It’s sad that they trashed the HDMI that bad.
i come home with my dogs or cat sitting next to a xbox laying on the ground… they can’t help but knock it down had to move it but the damage was done
Thank you this video is super helpful now I don’t have to pay the repair shop 120$
Yea fam, wtf is that about? It’s an $11 dollar part

what are the tools used for desoldering and soldering the hdmis?
Amazing video thank you
Thanks for watching!
Nice clean work
Thanks for the compliment
what's the two parts you used to hold the board in place when desoldering?
Great video !! What temperature do you use in the heat station, to remove the HDMI port?
Anything around 450c to 500 is plenty it all depends on your station and what you find works for you.
If you don’t have that thing you used with the sodering gun what els can you use I have the sodering gun and the liquid that for the sodering
I wanna send my series s in for HDMI repair just filled out the form
What happens if I don’t takeoff the black and green piece off?
Everyone in this comment section is having a breakdown thinking "HOW TF AM I GONNA DO THAT?!?!"
Ya least they're not having the breakdown after they've taken it all apart and ripped the pads off accidentally trying to do this repair...lol..nah not me
Any recommendations on kits for the sodder kit
You would think it would be a simple plug but dam
What g solder did u use
What did you use for flux?
Does anyone know how much this exact repair would cost?
Hi there! Thanks for the video! If the little metal studs came up off of the green on the board is my Xbox toast now? Thanks 😢
Not completely. Try searching for a video showing how to fix pulled pads, running jumpers etc. it’s all fixable, it just depends on how much work will you want to do.
How hot does the solder kit have to get
Links to tools and part?
Wjere can i get those tools ?
How is the brown copper called?
what are the tiny black components behind the hdmi port going across the hdmi traces?
i knocked 2 off and lost them trying to re-attach them...
EG41, G688
What is the copper wire brush looking thing?
Solder Wick.
thank you. how much for an hdmi replacement? on an xbox series s? with a white speaker. Is there a difference from white and black speakers?
The part is very cheap. $10-$20. There will be no difference with the different colors. Same ordeal
What solution/equipment is needed to do this repair? I have a soldering iron but not the liquid or the solder he uses. I would really appreciate it if anyone can help!
Low heat solder and flux
How much would it cost to fix it
amazing video but what temp and air flow did you use
Thanks and great question, but it all depends on the rework station you have as they aren’t all equal in what they can do but I use 450 with high airflow on my station.
What is the long copper thing you put on the pads (and put the soldering iron against) to clear the pad.
It’s Called Wick. It’s braided copper, kinda acts like a sponge as shown in the video.
@@FIXDPHONES thank you!
What should I do if my soldering iron won’t melt solder and what temperature should both my heat gun and solder iron be?
Get a better soldering Iron and add Low temp solder to help bring the overall temperature you need to reach down.
@@FIXDPHONESwhat flux did you use?
Damn i found a broken series s for 100, with an issue that seems to be from the hdmi port. Sadly i do not have any soldering materials to fix it, and I might bresk it even more XD
Think I may have burned the board tying to get the solder out. Any idea why the wick wouldnt pull it? I cut it and used plastic tweezers so it wouldnt heat the whole roll. Not coming out whatsoever. Got a super cheap soldering kit to the solder sucker is ass. Any tips would be appreciated I am 2/3rds of the way done.
The thermal mass of the logic board pulls heat away quickly. A decent soldering iron paired with good flux, wick and possibly some hot air from a rework station will be enough to keep that section of the board hot enough for long enough to remove all solder.(also adding some lower melting point solder and having it mix with the lead free factory solder will bring down the temperature the board needs to have the flux absorb all the solder)
@@FIXDPHONES what kind of flux do you use?
Do you have to solder each individual connection point to the circuit board?
Yes, and they can’t touch the one next to them. Solder likes to bridge across the pins and if that happens it will need to be fixed as I demonstrate in the video.
@@FIXDPHONES thanks,
What flux did u use
I took a hdmi part out of DVD player can install that it’s looks to be the same pins and size
It will definitely have the same pins, but it might not work, for example the hdmi on one xbox won’t work on another even though from the outside they look like they should. The distance they protrude up and out might be very different.
Now just wish u were local to me
What keeps the solder from sticking to all the tiny pins at once? It just stays right on each little individual pin
You apply a lot of special flux
Flux. Its magic
Can this be done without replacing the thermel paste on the heatsink
Technically yes, but if possible it’s a good opportunity to do so as it can prolong the life of the device if done correctly.
Anyone done a pad repair on one of these hdmi ports? It's what I'm stuck on right now and I have 2 torn off pads on the hdmi
Can I use an HDMI port from the original big black Xbox one for the series s??
unfortunately they are different and wouldn't work.
How do you get the soldered to not cross all the pins
It’s ok if they cross all the pins. Flux a clean tip and the right temp will allow for this without bridging
Can you fix mine?
do u have the link to the hdmi piece I’m gonna repair mine with the video but I don’t know which hdmi to buy
Be very careful buying and read descriptions very well, I accidentally bought the wrong one twice. But ima tell ya this hdmi port replacement isn't an easy one it's a bit tricky and ya really should have some solid experience prior to attempting this replacement...and especially if you've got any broken pads...I've got about 3 years soldering experience and have done lots of hdmi port replacements and I've got a the tools but this particular repair is just very difficult..least from my personal experience and I guess mine is a bit more difficult cus I've got like 3 pads I'm trying to repair as well in order to place the new hdmi port on.
So the foam that's removed does not need to be replaced?
the foam bumper is only there to provide support along the edge so you do not put too much pressure on that edge of the board and possibly crack the board. its not necessary for the console to function.
This is a really late comment but hopefully I get a response do y’all know if GameStop does this I can’t do it myself because I don’t have the tools necessary
Sometimes the local GameStop might have a recommendation of a local repair shop. I can also fix it for you. Visit my website fixdirepair.com
@@FIXDPHONES thank you so much for responding how much do you charge
What kind of flux?
My dog hit the hdmi wire and the hdmi thing inside popped out i dk if it damaged the board or if i just need a new hdmi port how 2 tell ?
Any Damage done to the board should be fixable by someone who can replace the HDMI. I can if you'd like to send it in for repair. fixdirepair.com
Hey what can I use to clean or what type of alcohol can I use to clean?
91-99% isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush will work just fine.
What’s the copper bar he’s using?
To remove the solder, it’s just copper shield
Hi mate what tools do I need
A lot...and the cost will put ya pretty much at the same as sending it in to have a pro repair it. I advise only doing this repair if you already have the experience and the tools.. this is by far the hardest hdmi port repair I've ever done
Does it matter if i dont use low temp solder wire?
no you still can use a higher melting solder, it just makes it easier as the thermal mass of the logic board sucks heat up really fast and makes it harder.
Makes it way way harder...the solder in these hdmi ports take a lot to melt
so it just magically sticks to the contacts and stays separated? man I've been sweating this repair
Not sure exactly what you mean, but no they don't stick unless heat is applied.
So I replaced my broken HDMI port but game still not working...can anyone help or any suggestions?
New board
My question is how long did this take you in real time?
About an hour, the actual repair only takes about 5 minutes at most. The tear down and reassembly take the longest
@@FIXDPHONES cool but my question is how much do you usually charge to replace
How to know if my hdmi is break? I have a black screen...maybe it is hardware too. Thanls
Use your eyes and look into the HDMI port... Are the pins straight or clearly our of line? It will be obvious if it is damaged.
@@austinjoyner3456 I found the problem. The hard disk is dead. Take care
Would just using a usb to hdmi dongle work?
I don’t think so. I believe USB are incapable of sending the signal to the TV through a dongle
Tried, didn't work.
Do you guy do shipping? I have a Xbox series s that has the same problem and I want someone to fix but do a good job on it. And if you guys do how much would it be?
Yes, visit my website and submit a repair request www.Fixdirepair.com
which screwdriver you use
Torx
I just found this video after I took my xbox to best buy to get fixed. They have to send it to microsoft to get fixed. But i think i wish i would have given this a shot
What is the cost to replace hdmi port usually?
Most professional Companies charge 150-200usd for this type of solder job on consoles.
Too dam much..unless you don't have any soldering experience or supplies.
Might as well just get a different xbox lol. Who tf is actually paying that?
So I can either learn to solder, buy all the parts and tools and do it myself, or I can spend what I paid to buy the console, to fix one component. Great.
Exactly, it's far cheaper to just treat the equipment with care to begin with.
@@RoastBeefSandwichIm sure anyone with a broken hdmi port wishes whatever accident happened didnt happen
well. i fucked mine. managed to remove one of those copper looking flat wires off the circuit board and stuff the solder job. Looks like a new xbox is needed.
Can I send you my Xbox so you can fix it if so I need address
Do I need that flex stuff
Ofcourse
I have the series X and one of my hdmi pins bent, me and my brother was trying to fix it till I had to pee and when I came back my brother said fuck it and bent it the opposite direction and then boom 💥 modern warfare was on the tv for some reason
Easy but damn Ima forget where everything goes... if I don't write it down and I need solder
Take photos as you go along opening it up...just lots of pictures from every angle
I just did a video taking mine apart so makes it pretty easy to go back and watch and pause as I'm putting back together..it also becomes like ridding a bike after you've done so many.

Welp I'm out.......🥲
Can never get enough heat for the hdmi to come out 😔
Add low melt solder to all solder joints👍
Be patient and just don't rip any of the pads...I ended up using my man's butane soldering iron and was surprised how much faster his was compared to my 200$ electric soldering iron...also I used to heat gun ones on top and one mounted under my workbench to get it got on both sides evenly...helped alot and wish ide found that advice before spending hours nearly in tears not able to get it melted down
