    Nice work Joey!
    A few constructive suggestions for the next one:
    Pre-tin the pads on the board this will help with soldering the pins down.
    Find a smaller diameter magnet wire, that one looked a bit big, it worked but I think it made your efforts harder than needed.

    • @JoeyDoesTech
      @JoeyDoesTech  3 года назад +4

      I can see exactly why that would make life SO much easier. When transferring the solder to the port pads, I was scared of doing too much or too little 😁
      As for the wire, it's funny you say that as I have some thinner wire that came the other day. Believe it's 0.01mm instead of this, which I believe is 0.2mm. Thanks pal :)

    Great job, my man! Especially for the first time - it looks big on the microscope, but those contacts are tiny.
    Just one suggestion (and this is just my stupid opinion) - maybe lower the music just a touch - helps when watching at night when the family's asleep lol. Still, great work!

    Thanks for taking the time to post the video.
    I think your theory about the solder mask is reversed . It may actually be the fact you are using too much that it is having trouble curing all the way through and making a weak bond. Try using literally the thinnest layer you can get away with .

  • @kikihobbyrepair
    @kikihobbyrepair 3 года назад +1

    Nice fix and video Joey 😉. It looks like your iron was suffering a lot and the solder you use is slightly matt and grainy, are you sure you are using a quality leaded solder? It looks like unleaded which would explain a lot.

    • @JoeyDoesTech
      @JoeyDoesTech  3 года назад

      Hey Kiki, thanks 😁 So the low melt solder I used was stuff from Wayne/Phil I'm pretty sure, so can't tell you what it was as I just have the wire and no case. I used lead free solder on the first ground leg of the port replacement toward the end of the video and that's where it wasn't setting correctly in my opinion, so then went back to the leaded one I have :)
      Yesterday some new solder arrived, Weller 60/40 so really looking forward to using that as it has great reviews.

  • @staminaman77
    @staminaman77 3 года назад +1

    Nice fix mate, love the videos. I haven't done a hdmi replacement yet myself but hope I can get a console off eBay to attempt it.
    I'd love to see you do a retimer replacement, as I failed when I attempted it because I made too many mistakes, hopefully you can find success doing one.
    Also what microscope do you have? It says you have one of them LCD digital microscopes in your description but I didn't see the stand in the video, only your heat proof blue silicone Matt so assumed you weren't using the one in the description because I couldn't see the stand

    • @JoeyDoesTech
      @JoeyDoesTech  3 года назад +1

      Hey mate :) Thanks for watching as always pal.
      I use two different cameras, one of them is an overhead DSLR camera which you see most of the time, then the microscope I use is the one in the description for the soldering work :) I'll be trying a retimer soon I think! They're very small chips haha.

    • @staminaman77
      @staminaman77 3 года назад

      @@JoeyDoesTech oh right just thought you would of struggled balancing a motherboard on the base of one of those cameras when working on it if you get what I mean, with the motherboard going over the base.
      And yeah, world of advice for retimer is just be very cautious of the capacitors surrounding the retimer chip, if you knock them off and they go missing it's game over unless u have a donor board
