- Howdy folks. By popular request, here's me playing Grand Poo World 3 and chatting about the game. I answered a lot of questions in chat but if you had any more questions I'd be happy to try to answer them in the comments. Grand Poo World 3 I worked on for nearly four years. I really did pour my heart and soul into making this game and while it isn't perfect (nothing ever is), I'm happy and proud with the final result.
This playthrough will show you every exit, every portrait, every secret, you name it. Enjoy.

For any who cares to ease the difficulty of this fine kaizo I'd suggest you collect all of the Scadu Poo fragments. It'll buff you real nice.
I still think the Luminiferous Kamek fight is way too hard and needs to be nerfed. People talk about the Dissident Toad Squad gank fight and Gigawalupeach's second phase, but those are doable even without cheese if you have the right build. But when Kamek uses that screen-filling spore attack at about half HP I can barely see what's going on through all of the effects on screen, much less figure out how I'm supposed to avoid it. The Kamek fights in Poo World 1 and 2 were tough but readable and it seems BarbSoft just needs to keep upping the stakes.

How did you plan around a non-linear game route? What are some of the unique challenges you ran into/what are potential problems that you wish you knew about before diving into the idea of a game being non-linear?
Along that note, you've previously commented on the cadence of level difficulty in other hacks, such as wishing for a respite between brutal levels to break up the exhaustion. Did that thinking enter the equation at all with your open approach?
Appreciate your willingness to provide language to game design on an accessible level, your analysis is always clear and understandable.
I wanted GPW3 to have a totally different structure from 2 - I'd done the linear style hacks before. I flirted with some choices in GPW2 but ultimately the choices were relatively unimportant. In making GPW3, it was very difficult planning out the different routes. It also was very difficult figuring out how much I had to "require" the player do before they were allowed to advance. I spent many hours drafting out a variety of paths before settling. I also tried to make the various paths more or less even in terms of difficulty and length. I don't think I did a perfect job, but I did a decent enough job with that where it's fairly interesting.
Yeah, I still believe that not every level of a hack needs to be a ball breaker, as hard as possible. I like silly things, fun things, easy things, jokey things. I think that that's reflected in some of the levels in GPW3 as well.
@@BarbarousKing I'd love to hear more about those requirements for progression and how convoluted they can get - I'll have to pop into the channel again soon (especially now that I've realized I've been subbed for 8 months LOL)

press L for Radio....press R to Launch... when they start w the opposite letters.

Would like to thank Barb for getting me into kaizo. I saw some guys playing GPW3 when it first came out and thought "I could beat the first level at least with some practice" WRONG. But I discovered a new hobby and did eventually beat it. Thanks Barb.
GPW 4: Mario in space. Crash lands on new planet. Needs to complete the trials of Mari-o: jump higher than Luigi, jump longer than Peach, lift more than Toad. Then needs to beat final boss: Bow-Ra, the ever-living.
The amount you put in these is insane. The Grand Poo World series holds a special place in my heart. Best thing is how the games in the series are connected to each other in one way or another.

While I’m definitely disappointed that you don’t intend on making another one, I totally get it given the time you spend making sure everything is as good as it can be.
Thank you barb for giving an in depth explanation on your game. I really enjoy how you put so much detail into the puzzles and how you create more for entertainment rather than difficulty. I saw your beanz playthrough and managing to powerthrough such a difficult hack shows your dedication to beating levels, even when the fun is sucked out of them due to its difficulty

Mr. Barb's Romhack evolution has brought the SMW ROMhacks to pure skilled and talented to what ROMhacks are. Hopefully with nicer and milder words in other romhacks nowadays.

Thank you for the upload! I really enjoyed the GPW2 commentary/run through you did a while back. If I am not mistaken, the toxic tunnels, music is also the club music that plays and Collateral with Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx. Great movie if you’ve never seen it. I’ll have to go look it up and see if that is the same music.
So cool to listen how you came up with different setups and ideas. It's like that you take a random sprite and go explore it to find more creative ways to apply it to your levels. That's where Magic happens in Lunar Magic and the GPW series is one of the most creative SMW hacks I've seen. Thanks for all your hard work Barb! And I know, f* you too 😄

We get a ton of flak for our winters but if you can be in Minnesota for the 3-4 months of spring and summer is prime. (Though personally I love fall)
I keep forgetting to go to AGDQ when it's in the cities, but I pray next year I remember to take the days off.

Love it. Maybe someone can help me- I have a question. I love GPW games, played all three of them, but I'm not good enough to beat them. There are levels that I want to play, but since I'm not very good I either cant reach them or it would take me so long. For example, it took me about 30 hours to beat Marathon in GPW 2. I simply don't have the time to beat all the levels, but there are so many I want to try. Is there a way to skip around levels just so I can play them? I have lunar magic but I'm not savvy at all. Is this possible for me to do?

Fuck you Barb lol, making it look easy. I'm thinking about getting the gold NES cart for the NES World Championship physical copy and turning the cart into a hacked SNES Classic and again this game. It feels like sacreligion and I really want to do it.
I know that the input lag is real on SNES Classic.

I'm wondering about the german text you put in that one secret in Weird Weald. It does say "This German points to a secret" (very paraphrased) but did you mean to say "This German" as in "this German guy" or "This German" as in "this piece of German text"? 'Cause right now it says "This german guy might be pointing to a secret" which I think is endlessly funny, but possibly not what you actually meant to say lol
That is what it's meant to say, as it's a reference to a portrait found in the game.
Not sure what you're on about. The German text is correct "dieser Deutsche" = "this German", which is the correct word for someone from Germany.
