    I don't really know who to ask about this, webmd is no help and I can't afford to go to an actual doctor right now, especially if it isn't actually anything serious. Anyway, I got injured the other day while skateboarding. I was doing a trick down a chest-high set of stairs and my knee folded under me and my ankle folded too. I heard a popping sound and was in severe pain (mostly in the ankle.) Oddly, I could pretty much walk, though it did cause the pain to worsen. That was about a week ago. I can walk now but my knee feels weird, (not too painful, just not full strength) and my ankle still hurts, higher than it did the last time I sprained my ankle. Neither the knee or the ankle are very swollen. Is this serious enough to go get checked out or should I continue the RICE method at home?

    • @JohnGibbons
      @JohnGibbons  5 лет назад +3

      Its good thats the injury is improving and to maintain RICE is good as helps reduce and control the pain. Even minimal injuries can take 3 weeks to settle down so see whats it like in another 2 weeks, good luck, regards JG

    I hit my knees into the dashboard involved in a car accident at 45-50mph. My knees got busted up and bruised and swollen. I can walk although I have to limp pretty bad and walk slow. I can put weight on although I don't really like to because it doesn't feel good. Bending is difficult because of how stiff it is. It swells right back up when I stand for much time and makes it difficult to walk. NP said I appear to have no broken patella, no damaged ligaments based off her moving it and bending it. No x-rays or anything were taken and I just ran out of my health insurance so I'm afraid to go to the Dr just to be told I'm fine. Should I be worried? I feel tenderness on the medial side of my left knee but that's also where the swelling mainly is. I'm wondering if it's bursitis? Sprained MCL? It's been 2 weeks since the accident and my swelling is improving and my bruise started running down my inner leg to my calf. I'm guessing that was fluid and blood leaving my knee

    • @JohnGibbons
      @JohnGibbons  2 года назад +1

      If you can weight bear and its not to painful and feels stable without any type of giving way then that is a great sign that things will be ok - 2 weeks is not that long after trauma so give it at least 4-8 weeks, especially for ligaments as they can take a lot longer to heal, - many months - good luck, regards JG

    • @timilehindada4283
      @timilehindada4283 Год назад

    • @JohnGibbons

    I am a 59 year old female and have bone on bone with osteoarthritis.....i get along pretty well though. With that being said I was walking the other day with my camera and then I came home and I sat in my reclining chair then later on when I got up my left inner part of my knee was so painful I could almost no put any weight on it at all I went to a clinic and they said I sprained or tore my MCL and put me on some steroids for six days I’m done with those. I’m still having quite a lot of pain when I stand. I’m using a crutch to get around but I’m wondering what can I do to help with this. I’ve been icing and using heat a couple times a day with some stretches..... It’s been about 2 1/2 weeks and I was actually able to ride my stationary bike for five minutes before it was too painful so I hope I’m on the right track here any advice you can give me would be so greatly appreciate it because it’s very painful thank you

      Hi Kym, thanks for the message and sorry to hear about your knee pain and having OA, the idea is not to do much directly to the knee (apart from pain relief) - maybe try a simple orthotic (boots in the UK sell them) in the shoe as changing the position of the foot might give you some pain relief to the knee - can also make it worse though so do a trail and error. Also gluteal exercises will make the knee more stable - i am not suggesting deep squatting and lunging as that potentially will make things worse (depending on your technique) but theraband exercises can be of value. Look at gluteal exercises using exercise bands, regards jG

    Can a knee manipulation cause an MCL tear? I had a TPF surgery back in December and I'm recovering from it, but my ROM wasnt improving so I had to get the MUA. Ever since I had one a week or so ago the inside of my knee towards my thigh has been the cause of a lot of my pain... is it something to check out?

    • @JohnGibbons
      @JohnGibbons  5 лет назад +2

      I doubt a knee manipulation under MUA would tear the MCL as a super strong ligament - the ligaments naturally take a while to heal (possibly 9-12 months - depending on injury) so try and wait a little longer, if not then see someone like me to check it out. regards JG

      Mike Love Thyself stay off it for a while , keep it elevated use heat. Try a support bandage if none of those things are working see a doctor.

      JG Fens all good man. Can’t diagnose someone over youtube comment section lol. Most of the time someone has a knee issue they can resolve it by fixing the hip/ ankle joints. Cheers!
