I chose these units because I do a lot of car detailing in my garage, and I need powerful yet accurate lighting that will also help me save energy costs as I detail for hours upon hours in the garage.
I bought the Hyperikon T8 tubes because they have the following characteristics:
Are the standard T8 length of 4 feet
Dual-ended
Frosted (for a more uniform light coverage)
6000K color temperature (super bright white)
18W LED units that replace my previous 32W T8 fluorescent bulbs
2260 lumens of light (very bright!)
Rated for 45 000 hours of use
Ideal for both indoor and outdoor use
Come with a 5 year warranty
85+ CRI index, meaning the colors you see are faithfull to real life
*If modifications are needed to your ballasts, they provide a super simple re-wiring diagram for easy installation.
Hyperikon is based in the USA and sell their products all over the world: USA, Canada, Mexico, England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and 23 other countries within the European Union.

Both of those links go to ballast bypass tubes. Not plug and play . (?)
I bought this brand from amazon one year and a month ago. I got the direct wire where I had to modify the light assembly and remove the ballast. Easy enough. I got the 4ft 18 watt 5000k. I used 8 in a 2 car garage. These are just fucking awesome. My fluorescent tubes were burning out way too frequently and they didn't like turning in like 50 degree weather even though I had cold weather ballasts. Haven't had any issues with these LEDs and they are brighter than the old tubes.
Great upgrade Pan. Enjoy the new lights!
+joaquin faz
Thanks!
😎
Great choice! I have the Hyperikon LED Vapor Proof Fixture 40W (100W Eq) in my garage as well.
+Ramon Jose Suarez
Yeah I’ve been quite happy with these units.
Are your lights tubes?
I like these bulbs, thanks for sharing Pan
+Tim datoolman
👍🏻
Can’t wait to try them out, I have some new brand LEDs that only work intermittently because they don’t seem to energize equally in the blank and finally went completely out. So I am anxious to try the plug and play hi para con to see if I have a change of fortune. Thank you
Great review mate .....ive got to get some of these , they look awesome 👍
Recently I was considering ripping out the magnetic ballasts from nine one-tube 4-foot T12 fixtures in my condo and rewiring for LEDs. By chance I found that Home Depot has plug-and-play LED replacements for T12s on magnetic ballasts. They’re not guaranteed to work with all magnetic ballasts but I bought just one at first and when it worked I bought enough for all the fixtures. They aren’t as bright as brand new recent T12s, but they’re certainly brighter than several-year-old ones. About US$7 each. Philips 2100 lumens, 6500K color, no CRI given but I’d guess at least 85. No obvious savings on power, but here the electric heat and A/C overwhelm all other use of electricity.
Very illuminating....... thanks for shedding some light on the subject.... Sorry, I'll get my coat, LOL!! please forgive my wacky British humor. Nice job Pan.
Heheheh!!
Where exactly are you from? I'm from Montreal, Canada!
I live near Maidstone, Kent. It's located approximately 35 south of central London.
Lol!! Clever!
Do you have to remove the little round Starter? Thanks.
I picked up a 4 pack of LEDs to replace my aging garage florescents, and am very happy with the result. I think I got mine at Costco or Home Depot, but the price was similar to these.
+Quidproquo07093
Yup LEDs are great!
Looks great!
+ChizAfterHours
I agree! 👍🏻😎
I still have the old school 36" bulbs. I've been wanting to upgrade, but I would need all new light fixtures for my garage.
Yeah I had been looking for quality LEDs for a while, and then I found out these ones were the right choice for my application.
I've been wondering if you'd do an LED upgrade since seeing your garage video.. great choice, I went the same route a while back and am very happy!
+Matthew Shambler
Thanks Matthew! I have to say it was the good move to make.
Nice Pan!
+J Coz
Thanks!!
Hello. I understand that if you just swap it out the power consumption is not 18 Watts. Because if the ballast is connected to power it is also consuming power. I installed mine but cut out (bypassed) the ballast. This is what is shown in the installation instructions that come with the lights.
Yes you're right. I later proceeded to the ballast removal as well.
@@PanTheOrganizer It works either way but one way still relies on the ballast to operate and the other way the ballast is removed from the circuit. Have a great day!
Pan, will you be doing any type of protection for your new LED lightning's?
+Mr Wonderful
You’re funny!!!
But to be serious, yes, I’ll be applying 10 coats of ceramic coating on them to be on the safe side 😂😂😂
Question:: im an AVID Obsessed Garage fan as well a HUGE fan of yours (obviously lol) but I always wanted to know on how or what you think about Matt's detail methods of how he details cars? Both of you two have similar methods and its good because I flow between you guys to chenge up on my ways and methods of detail care for my personal cars.
+Brien Golden
Hi Brien. I follow Matt’s channel too. All I can say is that he’s a good guy. I obviously won’t comment on another guy’s detailing techniques as each person has their own style. Nobody is perfect and it’s too easy to start critiquing one’s metbods. What’s important is the end result and if the person has passion. Like me, Matt is passionate about what he does and I appreciate that.
In my opinion, viewers have to watch and learn and use what ever techniques works for them. Detailing is constantly evolving. I myself don’t detail the same way I used to detail just 4 years ago... and I’ve been detailing for over 20 years. Techniques, products, trends, etc are all constantly evolving.
Pan TheOrganizer hey man thank you soo much for your honest input. As i mentioned, my ways of detailing has and is still changing myself day by day and thanks to you guys, ive been able to adjust and incorporate different techniques of mine mixed in with how you guys detail lol. Again, thanks for the feedback and keep delivering AWESOME content! #salutefromOhio
New change 👍😄
+Deepak Saini
Thanks!
I bought some relatively cheap LED fixtures at the hardware store that are 4800 lumens, plug and play. Nothing really fancy, but if you have older fixtures, you're going to want to take them apart and bypass the ballast, which completely negates the "plug and play" aspect of buying fluorescent fixture-compatible tubes.
Thanks for the comment Mark! How did you discover my channel?
Hello! I watch a lot of detailing videos and saw yours recommended. I enjoy all of them. I think one of the first ones I watched of yours was a BMW detail, and then the Rag Company video. Keep up the great work!
My wiring are different. I have a yellow wire on one end which didn’t use. I have a red and blue wire on the other side. I can’t remember if the red is on one bulb and blue on another bulb. I took one right wire from one bulb connect to the left wire on the other bulb and connected it to white. I did the same with the remaining wires and connected it to the black.
Are there any detailing lights that you recommend for mobile detailing? For those that don't have a garage...
Any construction style lights found at your local hardware store are fine and don’t cost much...
Pan great video, Did you remove the ballasts like the company suggest? Your thoughts on leaving verse removing? Thanks
+Rick Nagore
Thanks Rick! I didn’t have to as you saw in the video, they worked fone. But as I’m lucky to have an electrician in the family, we did go ahead a couple days later and did the ballast bypass. I didn’t see any differences...
Good you did they will use less electricity $ without ballasts
Hey Pan, are these plug and play even if my current fixtures have fluorescent tubes mounted?
Did u watch the video? He mentions it in the video
The super bright white are good for showing imperfections in any color? Does this lights are as good as scangrip on focusing a spot to correct? They are pretty high
Yes I can see impertections on any color car, but I still use my Rupes swirl finder LED pen light to inspect closer.
Pan TheOrganizer Thanks for the prompt response
I'm looking for 4' lamps that can be dimmed
Do you have an update on how these bulbs lasted, particularly in the winter?
I moved to a brand new house in November of 2019, and they were still going great. I liked the brand so much I installed new ones in my brand new garage at the time. Here's the garage tour: ruclips.net/video/gyehNOd44SY/видео.html
However my understanding is that during Covid, the company closed up shop so they don't exist anymore.
one of the most important upgrades you can make is lighting. wise choice.
+Killacamfoo O.G.
I agree! Thanks!
And the problem is that these HYPERIKON T8 LED LAMPS are just that ... HYPE... so in actual fact this is a lighting downgrade LOL
John Coops Care to elaborate please? Thinking of doing the same. So if you know something I don’t, please share and save me from making a mistake.!!
Make sure you buy the dual ended lights as Pan states, not all of them work without modifications.
I think I have the T12 bulbs 1.5 inch diameter. Do these work as I think the pins are all the same size? Thank you , enjoyed the video
The Hyperikon can replace T8, T10, and T12's. I'd recommend Double ended tubes and removing the energy robbing Ballast (which will fail in time anyways)
Yes found that out later. Did remove the ballast. Great bulbs! Very pleased with them
Pan the Organizer!!! Please help. I’ve been trying to find these lights but for some reason it’s hard to find these in pairs, they only sell in bulk. Would you happen to know other 4 ft tubes that you yourself would buy?
Unfortunately, apparently Hyperikon went out of business in 2020 when Covid hit... :( I haven't looked into other brands...
do you still hear the hum of the ballast with these? wouldn't LEDs that bypass the ballast be better?
I later removed the ballasts. But I have just moved into a brand new home with a crazy two car garage and new lights from Hyperikon. Check out my new garage tour here: ruclips.net/video/gyehNOd44SY/видео.html
Can you make a recent recommendation for my garage lights please seeing as this is a very old post, thanks 😊
Hi! Check out the garage lighting solutions here: bit.ly/3UdrhPl
How well do these show defects on the paint and are you still happy with your choice ~6 months later?
I love them!
Do they show defects well in the paint or are the lights not so good at that?
They’re great, but keep in mind they’re on the ceiling. To view defects close, you need detailing lights or at least a swirl finder pen light.
I was curious, I noticed you did not remove the ballasts. Why did you opt to go this route ?
Because we didn't need to. But following this video, I went ahead and had the ballasts removed by an electrician, as I was led to understand that it saves a bit more energy...
Anyhow, since this video, I moved to a brand new home with a new awesome custom two car garage, with even better Hyperikon LED fixtures here: ruclips.net/video/gyehNOd44SY/видео.html
What fixtures do you recommend for these bulbs?
I'm not an expert on fixtures so I can't comment on that... I just used the fixtures that came with my new house.
How do you dispose of the older flourescent tubes?
I still have them, but there are recycling centers near my home that take care of this.
Can you tell me how many lm do you have in your garage? can you suggest me how lm i need on /m2 for cleaning the interior not for paint correction.
I have 9 of those LED tubes (36 feet total). My garage is 15 x 21 feet (315m2).
Pan TheOrganizer with these you can make also an interior detailing? To vaccum under the seats, under the pedals... :) in winter time is difficult to make these outside, thanks
I can detail on my heated/cooled garage 365 days a year. :)
Did you see my full garage tour video? Here you go: ruclips.net/video/E_P6wRo3BH8/видео.html
i saw it :) i just upgrade to 27ft of tubs, its much batter but still.... :)
Great video Pan. I have a detailing question. If you live in a snowy climate and your car is covered in salt. Instead of a waterless wash can you go to a self serve car wash and wash it their. And tell me how you would do it. And one thing can you just rinse the salt instead of a full wash but wouldnt there be some dirt left over. TELL ME. Sorry for the question
Hi I live in a snowy climate . Canada. I go all the time and rise my car off. High pressure soap and water. Never use their brush there.
passat vw then after you rinsed it off how do you dry it off
Hi Take a couple of waffle weave towels stay in the wash bay. It will be cold but wipe down as normal and take a second one wipe down all door rubbers so the doors wont freeze shut.
And we are sorry that you come here and ask such an idiotic question as a comment in a video that is about LED lights. Have a clue, for fuck's sake... go and GOOGLE for the answer. Better, go ask mum or dad - I am sure that you know somebody in real life who can tell you how to drive to a self-serve car wash and wash a fucking car.
So are they brighter or not?
18W vs 21W has big difference or not?
We have 18W LED at much cheaper price than 21W.
And i need to add more lighting to garage. So i must choose.
Maybe 18W is enough
These 18W are a bit brighter than my previous 32W fluorescents...
Of course they are not brighter. These 18W HyperFakio LEDs are rated 2260 Lumens. Modern 32W fluorescents are rated around 2900 Lumens. So these LEDs provide 20% LESS light output.
I have nothing against LED replacements, but I have not found any that match my existing T8 flourescents in light output.
Alex - any *modern* 4ft linear fluorescent tube is about 90-100 lm/W. The common LED tubes sold in retail stores is only 100-110 lm/W (real). So if you have 2x4ft fluoro 3200lm each, then that's 7000 lumens. I use an example of our company's tubes - the "Econominal" one is only 125-130lm/W and the "mid range" 14W LED tube is 150 lm/W (genuine). So 2 of them is 2100 lm output x 2 = 4200 lm total. Our very best tube is 10W 180 lm/W = 1800 lm, however if we drive it at 14W, it's only pushing just over 150 lm/W. The heat is the killer, and the cheap tubes don't even have heatsinks in them, so they must run at reduced power and output or they fail. The solution is to add an extra tube - for example in our brand 3 x 14W 150 lm/W = 6300 lm 42W LED to replace 2 x 32W fluoro (electronic) 7200 lm 72W (total). If you use retail tubes then you probably need 4 x LED tubes to equal 2 x fluorescents.
Thanks for the thorough explanation. Until LED tubes improve I'll stick with my T8 fluorescents. Just so people know I am a fan of LED lights. I've replaced me exterior halogen floods with Hyperion units. Those run about 200 lm/W so you can easily match light output and reduce power consumption.
May I asked what type of light fixtures you're using?
That was the point of my video. Did you watch it?
Pan TheOrganizer I haven't watched the video in awhile but I dont remember you mentioning the actual light fixture you're using
Pan TheOrganizer When I asked about the light fixtures I was referring the unit that's holding in those light tubes.
Hyperikon. The link is in the description under the video.
Pan TheOrganizer I misspoke I was referring to which ballast are you currently using with the Hyperikon.
Jaguar kubic plus 20 watts lumen output 2000 LM cool daylight LKBP01S020XC and kubic 20 watts lumen output 2000 Lm. Cool day JQM-WHT- LKBK02S020XC what is difference
I only found the ones at 55$ none at 15$. Are you sure it's the right link?
+TheAphrostar
It’s roughly 15$ per tube. Bundles are more economical as it lowers the price per unit.
Where do you buy package of 12 for 15 dollars???!!!
It's not 15 dollars for a pack of 12... It's 15 dollars per bulb. Check the links in the description under the video for prices.
Canadian link doesnt work
No ballast disconnect?
Not necessary. But I eventually had an electrician perform the ballast bypass. No difference that I could see.
Tubular!
3:25 3:41
Γεια σου Ελλην
I need more lumens, therefore these LED-tubes are not yet for me. I have 58W giving 5200 lm.
for my shop light i will stick with fluorescent bulbs
You're actually using more than 18 watts per bulb if you didn't do the ballast bypass. Which lets face it, who's going to go back to florescent after switching to LED? Might as well chuck those ballasts and get the best energy savings.
In my new home we installed cool new Hyperikon LED panels with no ballasts. Here is my updated new two car garage tour video: ruclips.net/video/gyehNOd44SY/видео.html
@@PanTheOrganizer Very nice! I saw the snow in the video and realized you might be in Canada. I'm down in Texas.
Where's Matt's link?
For now, Matt only sells the 5000K bulbs, and the ones I bought are the 6000K (I prefer that color temperature).
all sold out...cant find any for the price stated??????????
This video was filmed three years ago, so things could have changed. Here's a link to their T8 4ft LED tubes: amzn.to/2VUEjVA
Also, I have since moved into a brand new house with awesome custom two car garage, with new Hyperikon high bay LED lights. Watch my video here: ruclips.net/video/gyehNOd44SY/видео.html
Those are not the same Matt from obsessed garage bought, he has the 90+cri version that are much better and a little more expensive than this ones
Hmmm. I doubt they are different. Hyperikon don’t sell a million different kinds of dual ended frosted 6000K LED T8 tubes.
Maybe you’re refering to Matt’s previous lamps, which were floerscent (not LED) and were higher CRI but from a company that discontinued making them (Verilux). Matt then moved on to Hyperikon. I’ll have to chat with him to see his exact models. Lots of misinformation on the web.
Pan TheOrganizer I went back to his video and you are correct but they are available and it makes a real difference
Hyperikon T8 LED Light Tube, 4 FT, CRI 90+, Dual-End Powered, Easy Ballast Removal Installation, 18W (45W equivalent), 2340 Lumens, 5000K (Crystal White Glow), Clear Cover, DLC & UL www.amazon.com/dp/B01H4KU4ZY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_8AczAb53SE02T
5000K is not for me. I prefer 6000K to be honest. It's a question of personal preference.
Not the way to go. Use direct wire ballast replacement tubes.
We removed the ballasts after this video following good recommendations from viewers.
