Love the overview and video! Especially that you demo the changes.
One thing to note about the Cinematic cam is that unlike F4 view, you can also position it anywhere you wish on the aircraft when replaying a multiplayer track. On a multiplayer track replay, F4 could not be moved forward, or aft, only zoomed and rotated about a fixed axis. This cinematic cam feature is a big help for those of us who use multiplayer tracks for getting some external shots.
Great review! There was a couple things I missed - thankyou!
@Bogey Dope!! Great video man, your guidance combined with the new hotfix from ED this morning and I'm avg 130 FPS on a 3-mnonitor setup with everything turn up! Now, I am downloading the shaders you use to finalize my rocking setup....THANK YOU SIR!

Keep in mind. No one combination of settings will work for everyone. Play around with the settings. Find what works best for you! This is just my own personal experience with my specific setup (Hardware specs in description).
Dear Bogey Dope, thank you again for the most excellent video. I watched it twice. Very concise and balanced. We have many more great things being worked on... Thank you for sticking with us and for your passion and support. Kind regards, Nick
Hello Nick! Thank you so much for the kind words! I really appreciate it. Thank you guys for continuing to provide such a great experience for all of us!
Dear Sir, the privilege is ours. Thank you again. Kind regards Nick
excellent summary of all major features in this release 2.9
Great video! Tuuvas is incredible...his video on the SPQR server was awesome.
Scrollable radio menu with context-sensitive bindings was a pretty decent QoL improvement too. I think it's a good patch for sure!
Great video as usual, Thank you!
my only real issue with DLSS is the massive amount of ghosting on MFDs and HUDs. TBH They do not need an upscaling pass so their render pass should be done after DLSS to prevent it in those critical displays. I don't mind the minor ghosting on other places.
I also have that ghosting and also the jitter bug, have turned dlss off atm.
Even fast moving analog gauges are somewhat critical. Have fun with the fuel flow gauge in the Viper, or the coordinate displays in the Skyhawk. Does DLSS support subsampling based on the depth buffer?
I get it too but it's so minor in my case that I will take that trade off for 40+ extra frames. I run quality at 0.5 sharpening as well as reshade
@@nyandyn DLSS implementations can be really custom and can make good use the depth buffer, but I don’t think DCS has a very custom implementation. I also don’t think it’s possible to render the displays “without” DLSS while using it on the rest of the scene
This should not have been implemented at the cost of image quality and having to mess around with settings.
Love your videos, thanks!
THX from an absolute newbie. So hyped!
Hey Bogey, the jack hammer effect on the aircraft and weapons happens on SP also in my experience , I don’t play MP but I have all sorts of issue which you have covered on all maps. Great content and explanations as always, keep up the good work sir 🫡
Great vid as always!
I'm not seeing any Aircraft Jitters, but I am getting Missile/Bomb jitters on Singleplayer.
Your peeve was canopy hooks, mine was the tgp not stowing externally. Also fixed now 😁
Great video. Forgot to give it a thumbs up the last time I watched it.. so I watched it again and did the needful.
After the latest patch VR works perfectly for the first time ever in Multi Threading, superb. One thing I have noticed is the view distance is virtually limitless now, I can see things literally to infinity.
I am absolutely loving the new effects.. It has been a great update for me.
Great stuff! Thanks!
That FPS counter has been a thing before the latest patch fyi, atleast 3-6 months
He’s right you know ^
The FPS counter existed for years, the new version is 3-6 months.
@@ulkazil8513 That is what I meant, thank you
My 2.9 upgrade didn't go smooth, but slowly getting better. I am going to fault mostly the user, Thank you sir, for doing this video. That SSS tip I will try, I too ran into that same problem. Great video.
My pet peeve with DLSS is that cockpit instruments will ghost a lot. If there was an option to disable it based on the depth buffer, I'd use it.
yeah, it's really bad with the radar cursor in the mudhen for me. almost completely disappears when moving it. makes it pretty much unusable.
The color grading is perfect for cinematics, but also for time period accurate briefing pictures and campaign documents. E.g. WW II, Vietnam/Cold War era "recon photos" with sepia or cinecolor filters, or beauty shots of aircraft with typical two-color sky "enhancements"... 😂
I've always wanted Eagle Dynamics to fix that sluggish movement when you pitch and yaw and they finally did it. It looks really real now.
Epic 👌
I was also noticing the jackhammer effect while aerial refueling in the viper
Great break down!!!!
Amazing video like always.
Love the content man!
Appreciate the shout-out!
Thanks for kind words. Nice overview! 😊
Thanks Ralfi for all you do.
Good video! You hit all the main points. Can you tell me where the bug reporting is? I have a few to add. One of them is the WAYPOINT SWITCH command in the editor. Some aircraft don't have the basic GO TO WAYPOINT command that ground units share. So to get an aircraft to follow a patrol route, the SWITCH WAYPOINT basically does that. You can switch from waypoint 7 to 2 and it will follow. Now, the waypoints don't match. They're one off. It's a minor thing, but I still would like to have it fixed. I have looked at the ED website and it's a little confusing.
I'm actually using FSR with a 2080 ti . I find it less "fuzzy" and has less graphical gliches, for now. You can also get that strange shading with FSR. I'm sure they'll work it out.
New flight model feels great. Finally feels like I can pull more than 4-5Gs without immediately dumping all my speed. A 9G pull doesn't immediately make you blackout either.
in the cgi industry, sss would be subsurface scattering, its the effect you get when you shine a light behind your thumb and the light escapes the other side of your thumb as a red light. this would be mutually exclusive from dlss.
LOD switch(!) is the point where the level of detail for objects changes between full fidelity (max polygons) and a simplified model (less and less polygons). Visuals should change if set lower than 1. This should be most obvious with ground objects, buildings, and to a lesser degree with aircraft.
I need to test this, for myself, but values above 1 together with visibility range ultra/extreme may solve the scenery objects (buildings, trees etc.) "growing" out of the ground in targeting pods, though this will definitely will have a negative impact on FPS.
Some people have moaned about it but I think it’s a fantastic update, it’s very positive for the sim.
Man, I don't know who would complain about this update...well, maybe Hoggit. That place is perpetually angry.
I've been thrilled so far. My system is showing it's age, but the update has smoothed things out on my system, so maybe I can get a few more years out of it.
@@aaronwhite1786 how did u guess 😂
@@jonridley Ha. One of the reasons I stopped going to that place months ago. IT was a blast to post in before, but over the past few years it just became a place full of constant pissing and moaning.
Hoggit is insufferable now. ED pushes something out and they bitch that it is rushed and not perfect. ED takes their time and they bitch that ED's not doing anything and the game isn't being updated, they're just pushing out new modules.
I'm sad it's not like it was when I first stumbled on it a while ago, but I definitely don't miss posting there now.
With the new beta do I still have to launch with the multicore option or can I just launch the game normally (using steam)
I don't have an Invidia card. But 2.9 has done amazing things for the few of us using AMD.
I'm now able to max the grass and shadows and still get high 130 fps on Marianas. I have never been able to get above 70 fps over the island. Also, for some reason, my CPU usage is down by 15%. And my GPU temps are down quite a bit.
If you're looking for "Invidia" you won't find it. It's Nvidia.
I think it's the LOD Switch Factor that is recommended to be set at 0.5 for DLSS and 0.8 for FSR. Could be wrong though.
I use the Free Flight mission in the F-16's a lot to mess with the settings. Then I would do a few bomb drops etc.
On 2. 9 I was over shooting on all the bomb drops, like 100 meters beyond what the pickle indicated the drop at. Anyone else? Also technicolor 3 looks amazing, but there are green hit boxes around the AWACS and tanker fuselages.
Very buggy, but it's a big step in the right direction.
Fantastic update.... just wish they would implement that 1976 Technology of Fwd-Play-Rwd and Pause in the REPLAY section.....
Yes, I've been waiting for that as well. That would be AWESOME! My assumption is that must be harder than it seems, since it hasn't been implemented.
Would assume it has more to do with the replay not really being a replay as it only records player input then overlays those inputs into a new simulation hence why the differences between the replay and the actual flight
On the back & forth jitter, I was getting that on my dedicated server even before 2.9 dropped, so I don't think it's necessarily entirely related to the update.
hmmmm I've never seen it until now.
Hey Bogey, do you have a link for your F16 Wallpaper in DCS? love it. Thanks for your videos.
I don't have a link. It was given to me by the photographer "Rob Tabor". (That's my old jet in the foreground)
@@BogeyDope Oh thats cool thx 😊
Question about the cinematic camera, I wasn't able to get it to zoom in like you do. Everything else works, but anything under 'object local view' that I tried to bind to zoom only moves my camera forward and backward. Do you happen to know the name of the bind that lets you zoom in and out in object local camera?
That is airframe specific. It isn't in the Local Object Camera. You have to go to the Airframe controls and you'll find external camera controls. For zoom, it is RCTRL+* and RCTRL+/ and RCTRL+NUMENTER. It is called "Zoom External In" , "Zoom External Out", and "Zoom External Normal"
@@BogeyDope Thank you for the help, just got it working properly!
The F3 jittering has been her for some time before version 2.9. It seems to affect 2D only, VR is fine.
hmmmm I've never seen it until now.
That external stutter went away after I cleared all nvidia and game cache and reinstalled all VR play app’s including OpenXR , Quadviews etc
Not for me. It was fixed in this weeks update ruclips.net/video/09WLrxa-NRI/видео.htmlsi=B3axbdlKgBKjU5GD
Technicolor 3 makes the world look a little more realistic to me. That SSS + DLSS shadow problem goes away when you check Full Screen for some reason. Seems like most of this stuff needs to have Full Screen on. That frame counter has been in game for at least a year and a half. ED said they know what is causing the ghosting problem and will be fixed on next patch.
I just tested in full screen as well, still there when SSS+DLSS is on. The frame rate counter I didn't notice until this update. Not sure why. Thanks for the heads up.
"Technicolor 3 makes the world look a little more realistic to me." At least on my system it makes the game look quite heavily oversaturated. Need to take screenshots to see if there's actual clipping tho. But I can easily imagine that on many monitors the higher color saturation would look more natural.
@@jubuttib Might be because I'm in VR. Usually the world looks a little washed out, but with TC3 it looks perfect.
For me too. Technicolor 3 + reshade looking awesome
one thing that really urks me about DLSS is that when you have it on mfd screens get kinda jittery and the radar cursor gets this weird ghost trail effect. Other then that im loving the update, the fact that i can get a solid 80 fps playing on a mix of high/medium settings in 4k is awesome!
Yeah noticed that aswell when I set my bingo in the Hornet. Haven't checked the mfds yet, but thanks for the headsup.
I think that's an easy bug to fix. I am assuming MFDs and HUDs are drawn on different render calls (since they let you choose resolution for MFDs etc) like most other games do. So applying the DLSS step before those calls should be enough to fix the ghosting of those screens.
GTX3070 i7-10700K. When I first opened 2.9 and went to menu, all the options were selectable. As soon as I either changed one option, or if I selected any of the presets, almost all of the options greyed out and were unselectable . And exiting the menu and reopening it they were still greyed out. Anyone else get this?
The jitter is caused by the multi thread executable. Switching it to normal fixed it but obviously you loose all access to the performance additions this and MT brought to the table. Been like that since the release of MT…
hmmm I've been using MT since release and am only now just seeing jitter.
Side note: Reshade is a good program, similarly creating missions that start at dawn or dusk really improves the definition with no performance loss. Waiting for 2.9 stable. And a Gazelle update.
What updates the Gazelle is to receive now?
@@paristo They reduced the roll rates a bit.
@@jubuttib Ah, so nothing new really. As you can still fly that thing without hands, using just pedals. Flies like on rails... Wished to see that "tiny" problem fixed...
@@paristo Is this after the full flight model revamp from a while back?
@@jubuttib Yes. I was hoping to see it fixed before investing any time for the Gazelle to do anything than confirm that it was so. I need to find the video about it.
How do I watch tracks from multiplayer?
I have had that aircraft jitter for awhile now. AI or players doesn't matter. Kinda comical when your wingman is flying close to you and they're just vibrating all over the place
This is the first I've seen it.
PC Newbie here, but so it makes sense to use DLAA + DLSS?
Running a 3060 ti here.
Thanks!
You can only use one or the other. You can't use both at the same time.
@@BogeyDope Ahh gotcha, that's why I was confused xD Thanks!!
It’s become unplayable for me even if I resort back to the original setting that were available prior to 2.9 my gpu utilization has plummeted to 38 to 55 percent I get major lag and freeze frames that last for seconds at a time. I’m running a 4090 with an i913900kf and I don’t enable dlss I don’t need to upscale anything.
it's already release?
i cant set antialiasing as DLAA.. its not available (gray color). as upscaling aswell ..it is also at off (the other options are gray as well
)
What GPU do you have?
@@BogeyDope thanks for responding.. i solved it .. i was using the non multithreding version :)
I had thought that landing with the TGP unstowed was a not a normal thing to do as the lenses could be damaged. This suggests that there is actually a purpose for this?
You are correct. Which is why I tested. Like I said, I'm not sure if this is correct behavior or not. To be honest I'm not 100% sure that is what they mean. There is no detail other than the change log line about it, that I can find.
For some of us that fly with sensor balls in real life, I can tell you that we stow before landing to avoid damage. I can’t speak for the fighter community though, so no idea what they do but I doubt they have it out. No one wants to get in trouble for damaging the glass. I know some guys who have landed with it pointed backwards, but during taxi it gets used a lot 👍🏻.
@@baileya1c yup. Always stowed on T/O and Landing
What about fsr? Why would you not try that?
I found that DLSS will only work with loading multi tread DCS, but not for regular DCS, which I dont even understand what Multi threading is or does.
Multithreading takes advantage of multiple Cores in your CPU as well as your GPU. This gives you a lot more power to runDCS with a multicore CPU and GPU. The regular single thread DCS isn't able to do this.
How do you get the "Coordinates" window?
ruclips.net/user/shortsGnJNEs7LZhI
oh dcs 2.9 has not yet implemented the new FSR 3 and AMD frame generation? Still FSR 2 only? my god....
I know you’re a Viper guy but if you want lots of angled lines for anti-aliasing comparisons use a carrier. Lots of superstructure, antennae, etc. in view to demonstrate anti-aliasing (or aliasing, depending on your perspective. 🙂) Nice content, thanks! Keep it up!
So does performance improve with the update?
4:00 DLSS Performance Demonstration
How do you open the coordinate picker and does it work in VR?
ruclips.net/user/shortsGnJNEs7LZhI?si=aHtLgbdoWRcP1Swb
I don't know if it works in VR
@@BogeyDopeI don’t think so
I think dlss replace lod and does it automatically that's why lod is not affecting anything with dlss on
SSS is still WIP, so we just can fiddle around and give feedback etc
From the release notes:
(...)"NEW: Added graphics option for Screen Space Shadows (SSS). This adds improved shadow detail to grass, bushes, and tree shadows. This is most evident with moving grass and tree shadows at long view distances. WIP."(...)
I can't run 2.9... buldings glitch out all over the place :( Issues with the new LOD I'm guessing?
Corduroy pants.... that is so 70's. Good info on the set up. Sharpening for me I got the Fuzz.
60's
If I'm being honest I'd like 2.8 back, even with DLAA its so goddam laggy, haze is alright
I really need to upgrade my old 1080ti…
I stopped playing when they added the full time, 24/7 vortices. If someone can code them out, I'll pay!
I believe the jitter is from dlss
Happens with dlss on and off for me.
In mp , everything is shaking.
Yeah.... BDU's... i don't get this.... a simulated.... simulation attack...??🤔
Indeed the cockpit hinges.... eeehhhh never bothered me in the past 20 years😁
That framerate is not new to 2.9, Fly over a city and slide the LOD and u will see what the LOD slider does.
Tested LOD at max and min over Las Vegas. I'm not seeing any difference. Neither in performance, nor in visual. Maybe I'm just not seeing what I'm supposed to see.
@@BogeyDope Yeah ok. On Syria for me, if i am over a city with it set to 1, only the big buildings are rendered. with it set to 2, all building in the city i am over are rendered.
@@OzDeaDMeaTHmm... Maybe I'm doing something different. I tried with LOD all the way to 2, and all the way down in Vegas. Tried with DLSS on and off and I'm not seeing anything on my end. Must be some other setting I've got set or something.
@@BogeyDope Maybe try a different map? Perhaps Nevada hasnt had the tech added to the map yet.
Change cloud to high instead of ultra. U can get rid of the effect
at 1:26 you can see my clouds are set to high. I've tried Ultra and see no change.
@@BogeyDopeim running with 4090 and its fine, seems this issue appears on 3xxx series, u may want to reduce it to medium and try it
@@manizaeimJust tested in Medium and the lowest setting... same behavior. The cloud setting does not seem to have any effect on this.
i get terrible ghosting with DLSS, specially on MFDs. SSS works fine without DLSS. i have it running with DLAA
At least for me, DLAA is what causes the blurriness, only way to stop it is to run without DLSS or DLAA
Any one else has Ghosting with DLAA and MSAA?
Why couldn't they update the c17 models too 😅 things are fugly😂
Can't watch anymore due to adblocking. :(
Hmmmmm. I don't monetize. There should be no ads on my channel.
Thanks for this video!
With the Datalink; isn't the whole point that we can set up our flight members manually in-game? As in, there is now no need to set up the flight in the mission editor? Wags says team members can be modified in-flight: ruclips.net/video/vmPGDhcfZkk/видео.html
Thanks! They need to fix the graphical issues it's really making the sim unplayable in certain usage scenarios. :( ruclips.net/video/3Mu8YE_Z2O0/видео.html Example. o7
EDIT: Keep in mind I'm NOT utilizing DLSS so it's not tied exclusively to said mode AND not Multiplayer for the above video.
maaaany bugs to fix...
First comment ❤
I believe I can't fly the game, too difficult, too realistic isn't fun at all 🤔😒🙄😌😔😩😫
And if you have an AMD system, forget it.....just forget it. DLSS Tech is not for AMD. Stick with what you know
Horrible. I got artefacts and traces with AMD 6700xt without fsr now...what is this upgrade? Developers ?!?!?
No need to buy this because it is still the same terrible environment. No true airspeed difference from indicated airspeed, terrible weather, still cant reduce visibility properly. When will they switch to a good sim environment? Putting 100 dollar planes into a really unrealistic sim environment is just not good. Its like they are using new tech to try to fix this broken sim and that tech creates more problems.
