Gray Armstrong I just make sure I don’t take snipers off in pvp and I go from a couple of different snipers. They all feel different but relatively similar at the same time. Try just sticking to snipers. Now I’m not consistent because my sleep schedule is fucked and when I do sleep I have the tv on which fucks with my sleep more. Not saying you do this but if you do try and fix these things
I noticed some of the things as well, but some of it I didn’t even consider. I love the analytical style of your videos! One more thing, which helps me consistently to train: if you are in a 5v6 or on a map you don’t like, stay in there! You might get rolled, but that is the perfect opportunity to focus on aim or your movement. You are gonna lose anyways and get the snot kicked out of you, so you can purely focus on yourself and don’t care about the result. Keep up the great work! Much love from Germany!
>Enemy comes flying in with Dire Promise and Felwinter’s Lie, doing moves that would make an Olympic gymnast jealous Me, with a Cerberus+1 and Mindbender: *Fear*
@@fakedrizzl3819 Ah, that’s Beloved, the darling of PvP snipers. You get it from Menagerie, meaning you should definitely get to it quick because that activity is going away next month.
I love cheesing felwinter apes with guns like Cerberus. I've gotten people so mad that entire enemy teams were teabagging me because we were winning and I was gunning down their apes with Cerberus one game.
Joe Rogan’s podcast episode with sleep professional Matthew Walker, really opened my eyes to how much sleep impacted my gameplay and in particular consistency. Great video Patty.
sooooooo true. I don't even bother with the crucible (or anything requiring not dying for 'completion') if I feel the least bit tired because I will have my proverbial posterior handed to me on a platter in a heartbeat. sooooooo true.
I find myself often completely unable to understand WHY my gameplay feels as inconsistent as it does. Some times, every shot I throw lands - even the shots that don't seem like they ought to land. I'm both on point, and the game seems to HELP me be on point. Other times, the game seems to actively play against me? I die behind corners, enemies seem to have 0.00001 sec reaction times, NONE of my shots connect no matter where my crosshairs are - everything just seems to screw me over. I just don't get it. My games all seem to vary from; Me being a god - to my enemies going full Matrix, dodging bullets and shooting around corners, Wanted style.
Sticking to a loadout is great advice. I was always bouncing around from one "best" loadout to the next and still getting whooped. I finally decided to just choose a loadout I like and stick to it (Chap + JQK3). My gameplay is leagues better after just 2 weeks.
Well you also should play meta loadouts to learn how to optimally counter them. Like for instance in the current sand box 120s are hard countered by pulses and scouts at 45-60 meters and countered by sidearms 10-20 meters. Learn weapon spacing along with how to use them.
i really appreciate the focus on taking care of yourself to be your best. I think a lot of gamers forget that general health is still important when it comes to games.
I'm glad you mentioned the overall state of health in this one. It's amazing the difference it can make, even day to day. I'm an older player with crazy variable health and it's like I'm playing a different game at times. On super good days, all the aim practice, in game practice, etc, all just clicks and it's like I'm 20 years old again and can perpetually see 2-4 seconds into the future. Then when the health tanks, it's like I'm 2-4 seconds *behind* what's happening like it was for me tonight. A few days ago in elim, if someone was down, it seemed obvious to check the lane, slide out, pop a shield and res. Today on the other hand, team mate goes down in a triple crossfire from the entire enemy team, I see his res/death marker and two of the enemy team in good positions to cover it and my brain just decided to walk over and stand in place while experiencing an instant replay. Lol. (Spoiler: I didn't get the res, but I DID die in emotional support for my teammate) I think when we get older or our health goes south, we just need to accept that we'll have super off days/weeks/months at times. Play the PvE/extra aim training on those days and wait for a better day to go slay when our brain works right. :) Good video as usual!
These videos always remind me to center myself for my next play session(s). It’s rather helpful when you have a schedule that only allows you to play maybe twice a week. Thanks Pattycakes!
Thanks man. I haven't even noticed that I do half of these things. As a top player, when I'm playing with my friends who are not as good. I always feel like I'm just the worst if I'm not dominating every game. Even though there is a lot out of my control and sometimes, I'm just in a position I cannot win. Thanks for the reminders patty.
I've been consuming your content like crazy the past 2 weeks. Thank you for your effort! I've definitely improved a lot of my bad habits in PvP (and even in PvE). Keep it up!
Very well said, and I would say widely applicable advice to competitive shooters in general. I really enjoyed this, and I appreciate you making these videos!
The biggest issue for consistency for me is latency. Even in CBMM modes I’m constantly getting matched against opponents from across the world. Some games I hit my shits consistently and others they just don’t hit. How do you deal with that?
Even with CBMM, I've had matches where I dome someone. Recorded and everything, and they don't die and I'm like "Wtf...?" and suddenly they vanish and are halfway to the other side of the map. Some connections man, they're really bad.
Funny you should mention external factors such as sleep, exercise and mood. It seems for me, I play absolutely my best after I get home from the gym around 8:30pm. If I play in the middle of the day after I wake up or don't eat, I get scraped every time. For some reason, just waking up your body, and oxygenating your blood makes you more alert and aware of your surroundings. My reaction time improves significantly and my aim is a lot more accurate. For anyone that knows they aren't intrinsically bad at the game, I would encourage exercise, running, push ups or just getting out of the house and moving. It really wakes up your senses.
Thanks for these videos. I really want to improve, my KD is so low it’s ridiculous . One of my gamer friends told me to concentrate first on map awareness and not so much worry about kills. So trying to do that.
nice video and a lot of good insight here, feel like a lot of this is fairly underrated and goes very under explained and I believe you've done a great job of tackling those tropes here
Thanks! Some of those topics I don't see many creators touch on and I think they are so important to evaluate when you're trying to improve as a player :)
Patty, as a top pvp'er myself (in game name ErianasVow) I'd say the biggest thing that's helped me is asking myself what I could have done better after each death. A lot of deaths are flat out unavoidable in Destiny, but getting better for me was mostly from learning what mistakes are instead of blaming the game or other players. It takes a good mindset to be able to do so as well as everything you stated in your video.
One thing I do is watch the kill feed too, then look for the skull of a dead teammate or their name. Gives an idea of enemy movement and positioning without radar ping. Also, watching the feed is super important for capitalizing on an opening created by a teammate. Playing off my teammates has led to way more efficient games.
I pride myself on Decision making. Knowing what fights to take and back away from is very important. You’ll be surprised at how many more kills you get just by playing wiser. Also USE YOUR PRIMARY!!! I get tons of kills game after game cuz people cant put their shotty or sniper down for 1 sec. Everything in this vid is accurate. All of this plays into your consistency.
I've been maining Tarrabah recently, and it's made me be a lot more cautious. Protecting that charge while doing hit and runs. If I can fully secure a kill, I will. But if not, I'll throw a few shots out for some charge. Then Ravenous Beast pops and the fun begins. :D Also, yes. Use your primary, I know getting that instant kill sounds nice, but a lot of the time, you're putting yourself at a bigger risk by just mainlining your special. If you whiff that shotgun slide, you're likely dead meat. If you miss your sniper shots, you're down a gun and they know where you are. Fusions sorta fall into the same camp as shotguns. Make the shot count or die. All that sort of stuff. Using special is nice, but mainlining leaves you open to a nasty counterattack.
😂 all of the health variables, am pretty much in the negative lol What helped me the most in getting better was watching great players on youtube and learning from them. Worked with me at least
He has some good advice here, but just remember that there are talented individuals out there who are naturally good. People with an unshakable mental combined with good micro/macro/mechanical capabilities. The other thing that I have to add is that I was at my best when I didn't care about my performance, and at my worst when I was acrively trying to improve. Part of that might be due to matchmaking changing and early on I was matching lower skill players while later I was matching Cammy, Frostbolt, Lumie, etc...in general I know my weaknesses, but if I try to improve I end up caring and getting frustrated when I don't pull off a play that seemed straightforward in my head. Also my skills have significantly atrophied from not playing FPS games for about 5 months.
I know this is off topic but i swear when i use TopTree ArcStaff with the dodge to increse melee range i feel like it accidentally decreses the time between melees i went into a Iron Banner game and all i did was dodge before any and every engagement and then i rushed them then punched them to death. It works i swear it decreses the time between melees
I can attest for subclass muscle memory, top tree arcstrider is literally free for me. If you play one consistently and practice with the different abilities, you’ll become hella consistent
I need an answer, I’ve never understood this. Since the change to match making, I have been awful at 6v6 modes and 1v1s. But I can go into survival and either carry or at the very least carry my weight. It seems like the opponents are much harder in control than they are in survival.
I don't like how you point out my weakness 😂, my accuracy is normally very strong with a primary... But I find myself not really thinking about how others are playing the map, so I lose duels just trying to find them lol. Some days I'm a little more alert and it shows, but often when I play I'm tired
this video pertains to me, and my habits alot... except I’m fairly consistent day to day, as long as I’m not attempting to use rediculous, off-meta builds, lol. my main problem is that I go to another game for several days, be it battlefront, bloodborne, DOOM, and then when I’m back on destiny I make the stupidest plays. I have to watch streamers and pvp matches from truevanguard to remind myself what it means to be cautious/strategic/have map awareness. 😄

Speaking of maps in Destiny do you think every map should be in rotation for Trials or should it be the 9 or 10 maps that Bungie insists that we play on?
Generally speaking I think people should use whatever they have the best success with. Then it’s on Bungie to balance things when weapons like Mountaintop are clearly too powerful for several months

Speaking of maps in Destiny do you think every map should be in rotation for Trials or should it be the 9 or 10 maps that Bungie insists that we play on?
I think only certain maps play well on trials, but I'm okay with them experimenting to figure out which ones are fun
Awesome gameplay man.
Glad you enjoyed
Odd question but how do you feel about people specifically not using guns because theyre conisdered meta and then shaming people who use them?
Generally speaking I think people should use whatever they have the best success with. Then it’s on Bungie to balance things when weapons like Mountaintop are clearly too powerful for several months
What is that cannon that everyone is using? And what rolls are good?
Which auto rifle is being used at 8:35 ?
