Let me tell you a story. The other day I was playing in crucible. I found this guy, He was sniping me every 10 seconds. Headshot, Headshot, headshot. I don’t usually think “here’s a cheater”, there are a lot of good players and before to report someone you must be 100% sure that he is a cheater. I was suspicious by the way. Suspicious but not certain, mostly because when is a cheater you know it, the reaction time is too fast for an human being. This was different. The reaction was fast but human, He was waiting for my head to be in the right spot. He was always bringing the fight to me. So at the end of the match this guy had 40 kills, i had only 9 (most of the time I’m around 25, nothing great but i’m average good, and I have my flawless in trials). All the other members of my team were around 9 kills, and in his team there was him, and then all his teammates were around 10 kills. I went to check this guy on destiny trials report and destiny tracker. 90% accuracy sniping in trials, a lot of flawless, and all the stats were incredible but human. “This guy is not a cheater, is just incredible” that’s what I thought. Then I went on RUclips thinking a guy like this must have a channel, but nothing. I know a lot of pro players change their name in game. This was the case. At the end I found out this player was cammy, and man, I’d love to pay to see that match from his point of view, and see how predictable was my movement for him. I have a lot to learn to became a better player, and that match teached me a lot.
Thank you for this video, is the best motivational and inspiring video on destiny that I’ve ever seen.

9:37 I think its good to keep in mind that being too confident in your movement is never a good thing. Yesterday I matched a guy with "good movement". He kept getting us in gunfights that were weird and unpredictable, forcing us to shotgun or primary, however, he never killed us. Not once. He just kept confusing us and then would die. He tried jump sniping way too much, and when he switched to a shotgun he kept dodging and sliding, but he never played cover, so it was easy to figure out how to kill him. That doesn't take away from the fact that being confident in your movement is a good thing, but you gotta make sure to be confident and competent.

A move that I’ve found rly effective with hunter is running up to someone meleeing them then jumping/dodging back while shooting its like a 90% chance of winning a 1v1 cause the enemy freaks out since your so close and expects you to be in front of them not in the air

Yes- I would very much like to see more videos expounding upon movement. On console, FOV and general movement isn't as fluid and dynamic as PC options. Exotics like transversive steps, stompees or dunemarchers are almost a requirement to try and get a movement advantage.
I would very much like to see more examples (and possibly the dynamic thought process behind them) of good movement, versus poor movement, as sometimes I've attempted to dictate the terms of a fight and gotten squashed due to someone out-maneuvering me.
Thanks for the great video, Nomad. Ace quality as usual.

I've actually gathered a lot from just watching great players like Cammycakes. His commentary gameplay has made me a better player more than anything. Especially on that two second rule. Keeping radar up, checking all your angles, moving around frequently, stuff like that leads to more efficiency than anything.

Your initial analogy between ayong a warlock vs a hunter just made a whole lot of sense to me! Recently I have moved to top tree dawnblade Warlock. I love the neutral game: air movement available, the air engagements catching enemies by surprise at times, and celestial fire. However, when I jump back to voidlock(any) I feel more comfortable. Since vanilla D1 I have used blink 99% of the time and it is what I am comfortable with in game and movement is second nature with it and I don't have to think (nor do I hit as many walls or get caught with my pants down slowly gliding in the air).

What I really liked about Trials was that it essentially challenged everything that I was in Crucible. Of course it improved my gun skill and target acquisition etc etc. But the real treasure was that it made me rethink how I moved, processed information, played around my teammates, figure out how to counter pick or push engagements in my favour. Sadly, haven’t gone flawless yet, but the weekend where my friends and I had our best run (6/7) we could tell there was more confidence in our abilities, call outs, and collapses and this video essentially explained what we felt. Thank you for this!🙏

I would also like to add that, as a d1 player, vertical gameplay in d2 was a FANTASTIC CHANGE. I play titan, but I played hunter in d1, and the vertical gameplay was lackluster AT BEST, and now that d2 has transitioned as it has, it makes gameplay and strats MUCH more variable.
Most players don't use verticality to their advantage, and if you don't you should, you'll feel much more confident in your ability to react, adjust, and counter most strats.
TL;DR ( Use verticality to your advantage)

Wow! What a great and refreshing video.
I think you are bang on re- information. I think that on that vein “unpredictability” causes your opponents to in turn “gather more information” which goes back to you very outstanding “information gap” premise... being more mobile causes you opponents to have a skill of “accurately acquiring information on the opposing team and using it to their advantage”. If you are camping (opposite extreme...the team can understand you position and that information doesnt change....they are still going to be therr a minute later...as you point out there are split second decisions to be made when you are highly mobile- because your position/angle for the attack is changing at a high rate...which causes the opponents to have a high skill in aim/trigger pull timing...unless you run thru a hardscoped lane...so being able to be mobile on the map forces your opponents to play that game and that is what causes the skill gap imo...if everyone got a taste of how to play like this- like you did the first week - you’d eventually see a higher % of ppl playing at this level because as you say at the levels most of us normally play- we can “win” without maxing out our abilities...anyway- ty because I never considered movement related to information gathering. That idea is worth a series of videos...

7:35 was just spot on. I was playing last week with my friends, we've never been (and probably won't go) flawless, and didn't get to 3 wins on Javelin-4. After the first couple of games I wanted to quit and never come back to trials, just because I recognised my placement and movement in comparison to the enemy didn't even come close. I just struggle to keep up, and I think my friends do as well.
Usually though these are diamond players we're facing, despite us being at silver rankings, so that's often something I need to bear in mind.

If I'm lucky a couple of my friends who are way better will help me to a flawless. The main point is, you should go in and if you are at a point where getting one win is a challenge then face that challenge until 1 win is easier and your challenge is 2 wins, then 3... I'm getting more confident in my ability to get 3 wins and can see in the near future I will be shooting for 5 because I AM improving!

Also - I know this is a lot more work to make a video like this - but for me the most helpful crucible advice videos include examples of engagements that the host commentates, even breaks down into slow motion and explains their decisions. The examples help drive it home. I absolutely think that movement is much more of a gap for me than gunskill (though I have lots of room to grow in both) and I'm very interested in improving.

Cammy is on a different level. The man can read people's fortunes and tell them when they are going to eat for breakfast. The stuff he does is on its own level of unpredictable. And that unpredictability, his unconventional playstyle with out of the norm loadouts makes him better.
Because like I tell people, the more you play against an opponent, the easier they are to beat. This season is such an easy season of trials, cheaters and beavers aside. Mostly due to the cookie cutter loadouts that always play out predictably. If you are having a hard time in trials, ask yourself, "Is the loadout I'm using so basic that there is practically a manual that explains my limited options with this loadout?". If the answer is yes, you might need to try and find something you are better with and out of the usual meta. Because then all of a sudden, people are scrambling to figure out how to play against it. Sometimes your own demise 8s the predictability and limits of a loadout you use.

I've played with a lot of streamers through raffles/redemptions and the common issue I've seen with my gameplay is I have no idea where to position myself to best assist them or to counter the enemy, so I would love to see a video on movement and positioning. I've asked the streamers a lot of questions, but they all seem to reply with the same answer of watch what we're doing and not be able to explain it. The issue of watching someone of a higher tier than me is that I have no idea of the subtle movements or decisions they are making to get the result they desire and as a result all it looks like to me is they found a position the enemy wasn't looking and got their kill OR they had superior targetting and won their 1v1.

After I saw this video 2 days ago, I started to implement that 2 second rule in regular Crucible and Iron Banner. After I got used to it a bit, I tried it on survival. It's like night and day for me. I started to get better on survival, I got more kills, and most importantly, I became consistently aware of everything around me. That 2 second rule singlehandedly change the way I play Crucible, although my KDA is still very low at this point. Thank you for making this video, I realized that movement is key in Destiny, both in PvP and in PvE

I laughed a lot in this video. Not because your fantastic comidic intuition, but because of just how relaitable this is. Playing with superior players and always feeling a step behind. Or more often, plating AGAINST players that somehow know what I am going to do BEFORE I do, and pre-position themselves to counter it (for example cammy's callout "this guys going to panic pop"...) Good stuff here. I think I have gotten better at aiming, and thats helpful, but my biggest gains in crucible have been in movement and positioning. I'm still not great, but positioning can outshine raw aiming skill in many situations. Been submitting gameplay for review on your discord, and its helped immensly.

I'm extremely curious how using a Wish Ender might affect this playstyle? If a good chunk of movement is about information and controlling engagements, and if the seconds rule is about target acquisition, what changes when you suddenly have the ability to *get* all of these things, but only in a small controlled cone in front of you while aiming (and assuredly not moving, at least not very fast). I've been using a Wish Ender in Comp and seeing amazing success with it by remaining fairly static with my movement, but instead rapidly scanning my surroundings with the bow to see where my enemies are going. I can see not just their positions, but their models. Meaning I can see the direction they are facing, what animations are playing (and thus when they switch weapons or whether they're holding a shotgun or a sniper), and I can see when they jump, use abilities, etc.
Coupled with the Wish Ender's incredibly high headshot damage, a pair of two coordinated guardians could effectively and easily hold almost any position. 3 Guardians? Nigh untouchable assuming their communication is on point and coordinated with the information a Wish Ender can gain. But I wonder, is the information gained by using the Wish Ender enough to offset said information's cost in terms of movement? Just how much can you mitigate that cost and still retain effectiveness with the weapon (since rapidly ADSing doesnt work, as the effect only activates on a full draw)?

sidezz is one of Cammys teammates and he’s the best for me low key. The guy is just talented at game mechanics in general but he’s incredible at timing his pushes, bursting his damage at the right distances, and finishing kills. People love panduh for good reason, his snipes are crispy af and he’s accessible. For me though watching sidezz is watching the best. I’d go and watch cammy stream trials and most of the rounds would be sidezz charging in, getting a double kill in the first engagement of the round, then they’d collapse on the third.

This is such good advice. I personally struggle with movement. I have a high kd and I'm good at controlling what engagements I get into, but I tend to have a low kill count because I have a limited number of places I like to fight. I'd love to see some videos where you break down how to effectively move from a map. Like start at a spawn and if you don't see anyone, where do you go next? What cover do you use, etc... Also, what I'm gathering is that if I put "cakes" somewhere in my name I'll have more success :) jk - cheers!

I 100% agree with you and can speak to the benefits of movement with purpose. I am no where close to a high level comp player, but I did spend A LOT of time grinding momentum control this week. Movement was essential for me to get exactly where I needed to be to flank positions, take control points or to harass the enemy. I also found far more use for guns like Mida (multi and mini) over the harder hitting Jade Rabbit. Yeah I did less damage per shot, but if I needed to close distance or change trajectories it was so simple. The games where we handedly won, I was all over the map, with confidence, the games were we lost heavily I camped more or tried unfamiliar weapon comps. Definite thumbs up from me!

Pure honesty. Most self conscious players generate a god complex when playing with lack luster players. The fact your aware of what's going on and willing to do more is what your average player will shut down. No one wants to feel like a cryptark. We rather 1v3 for glory vs 3v3 for team synergy and losses.
