Great video both in content and quality as always recently i have an ongoing project of taking what i call a crucible journal and doing my own commentary over a random recorded gameplay and the tips overlap with what i have been working on.
Fantastic video, I knew you were going to crush this topic! It's such a complex thing to talk about and you made it really accessible to the average or newer player. 10/10 Also that goldie clip 1/3 of the way through was SPICY 🔥
When you really take the time to contemplate the nature of it all, you come to realize that rhinos are in fact just fat unicorns. Cheers man, great video!
I'm a new light player and I was getting wrecked no matter how hard I tried, people already had their crosshairs on me even before they even saw me on their screen. After an embarrassing number of losses, I finally figured it out. It was the goddamn RADAR. Basically, just keep staring at your radar while you play the objective and the moment you see a red indicator you need to start aiming down sights in that direction, and that's it you'll be on a level playing field with other players after understanding this concept. As for the rest, I think you'll be able to figure out by yourself if you have played fps games before. Btw great video! thanks for sharing.
I heard this somewhere but it's gone soothing like trust your senses not your tech and I interpret that as trusting your gut instincts in any given situation
A good acronym that many likely already have heard, but for those that haven't: OODA Loop. Stands for Observe, Orient, Decide, Act, and represents a four step approach to decision making developed by a USAF military strategist. What's great about the concept of this is if things aren't working out for you that day it's worthwhile to reset your OODA loop, since we do this anyway whether it's consciously or not, and focus on say a particular step to see if that's the issue. Anyway, some food for thought.
@@yugijak Awesome! Where I find it comes in super handy for me personally is when I get tilted in Crucible. So I try to make it a habit to step back, and force myself to reassess my OODA loop cuz I know it's not goona go well otherwise.
@@MonsieurAuContraire Yeah I kinda lost my ability to do that somewhat so I think it might be helpful to have it on hand so to speak. Hell maybe I'll actually get kinda decent at crucible this way.
@@yugijak What's good about a tool like this, or what Ascendant uses in his vid, is you can apply it many different ways. For example when my tilt is at its worst usually means I'm angry at my own teammates, instead of my opponents, for I feel they're playing "wrong", dying "dumb", or something to that affect. While it's easy to get caught up in that mindset and keep feeding it thinking they should be able to hold their own. The issue instead is likely that I need to pay more attention to what my teammates are doing to help them so they can help me then just getting mad at them. That's where I struggle the most is consistency for if I have good teammates I do great, but if I have weak teammates I do poor since I mostly play as a lone-wolf, and not with the group. So with all that said you may be decent at Crucible but there's that thing which is holding you back, and so it's key to identify what "that thing" is.
@@MonsieurAuContraire Mine gas become beating mySELF up over those kind of things. 'I should not have died to that, I'm better than that but clearly I am not and will never be and it proves I am unintelligent permanently.' Or stuff to that effect. More in solo play than anything. And censored. Point being is it helps break mental 'loops' where you get caught thinking one specific way and cannot approach it in any other.
I wanted to cover this topic a while back and simply didn't know how to compile it all. I'm so glad you did Nomad! Excellent work my friend looking forward to the next one.
Very nicely done and said Ascendant Nomad. This one topic that has no real shortcut to it. It's all 100% Trial and Error. Whenever I find myself in a match against Very High level players, Game Sense is something that I have to start getting into Overdrive because a gunfight turns into a huge game of chess. From positioning, to bullet count on special ammo, teammate and spawn positioning. It's very easy to get overwhelmed when the entire lobby is always taking every small detail into account in game modes like Trials and Survival because there are moments of too many possibilities.
As a long time competitive FPS player, including Destiny 1/2, I love the cerebral approach to your vids/instruction. My prediction: you’ll see incredible growth with your channel as soon as solid pvp players begin migrating back to the upcoming and now more powerful consoles, later this year, and get away from the shit-show cheater-riddled competitive scene on PC. I’m a new sub and have genuinely enjoyed your content. Can’t wait to see your channel grow. Best of luck!
as someone whos learning to drive and trying to get better in the crucible I've noticed a lot of similarities between them and this video hammered it home for me , thanks
I personally always thought to run and gun without much of a plan besides occassionally capturing objectives. This video has been surprisingly eye-opening; thank you, Nomad!
When it comes to destiny information this is the channel...My K/D has gotten better from Nomads advice...Thanks for the hard work Nomad. Always enjoy the adult swim bumps playing in the background as well.
well done explaining! its hard to comprehend what's going on in someone's brain while playing a video game, and you managed to portray it in an extremely helpful and intriguing way. thanks a lot!😀
Thanks, man! Really useful info. Will try to use it on my next game session. Actually, struggling a lot with "what happens next?". I often find myself running directly to my death from [super, heavy, crouching shotty, team fire... name it] right after re-spawn. Obviously, I have no clue what happens next ))
Thanks Nomad, this might really help me solve some of my PvP problems. I'm autistic and Crucible has been an absolute nightmare for me in S14--there's so much going on at any given point, so many stimuli, that my brain is literally unable to process anything and I'm just lost most of the time. Like, I've been getting thrashed in Iron Banner this week and *I do not understand why.* I'm hoping this can give me a good place to start.
Absolutely amazing video, and from what I would have to say is my favourite crucible tip related channel. Something I wanted to mention is at 6:17 you mention trying again from another time or place. In my entire crucible experience, I have come to realize that after the basics, knowing when to back off is miles superior to just having game sense. It’s not as integral in 6v6 modes, but will make the difference between you winning and losing in trials or certain competitive modes. Again, absolutely great video, just mentioning that knowing when to back off (a skill that comes after game sense) is something that should not be breezed over in a single sentence. Although! Game sense 102 is coming and I can’t wait!
Wow. I really love how you structure your videos, this one especially. Simplifying into a few points. Repeating key ideas. Thank you. I learned a lot. Looking forward to part 2 of game sense.
Thanks for the great videos. I've really tried to incorporate the things you talk about in your videos, and i must say that they've definitely helped. I stopped holding sight lines for more than a few seconds (most of the time 😋), and my map awareness has definitely gotten better. Went from a 0.9 KD to 1.19. Crucible can be rage inducing at times, and I hate that meta-loadouts feel so mandatory even QP , but I'm still having more fun and it feels good to see yourself improving. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for this vid i have had trouble explaining what needs to happen for my friends to advance in the crucible and i think this words it perfectly
i know this is about two years too late, but this video is amazing. my aim has always been great however my game sense and situational awareness has always been terrible. i find myself getting an average of 7-10 defeats per match with around a 0.5 KD, and after watching this video im hopeful that it will start to improve
"Whats going to happen next" i think i can safely answer that question 2 minutes into the match, when you get a lilttle info on the enemy team (loadouts, if they push a lot or sit in the back etc) you can predict a lot more of whats going to happen, what type of encounter you're going to get into based on the information your radar gives "is the enemy close or far away?" And the info you already gathered. Also i never noticed how much there is to pay attention to in a crucibe match but as you were listing those things at the beginning i realize that damn that could be a lot for a casual player getting stomped (not the main point just a small thought i had) Fantastic video! Cant wait for part 2 BIG EDIT LOL! I didnt finish the vid before commenting lmao, i forgot about the 2, second rule.
Thanks for this, Nomad! Really appreciate the amount of hard work you put into this (and are putting into these videos) to deliver information in such an understandable way
I have a notoriously hard time with trying to see into the near future and fast thinking. Practicing this might even help me with perspective and prediction in real life.
I feel like you should also be paying attention to who in the game has their super and which super, other than that, there is some pretty good advice here
Improving game sense will make everyone a better player. To become top tier though, you have to go one step further. You will have to go from simply predicting what will happen next, to dicating what happens next. When you see someone with 40+ eliminations, he got those because he manipulated you or/and your team mates in doing what he wants you to do. This is also why some fights between two very sweaty players can feel a little drawn out, because they are both trying to get the other player to do what they want. This is in my opinion the biggest difference between a 1.5 kd and a 2+ kd player.
Nice video, very informative. I'm avidly waiting for pt 102 / aim : which wll have the answer to; how do I conquer no thumb skill on console after years of playing. I have my notifications waiting.
Unfortunately a lot of high level games consist of sword peeking whilst charging supers with 10 intellect, this needs to be addressed by bungie ASAP along with a decent anti-cheat. @Ascendant Nomad appreciate your educational videos and your time of course 👍
Once you build more game sense of what's going on the next, most difficult thing to do is to make a decision on what you want to do with the information you've obtained. While i'm sure Ascendant will talk more about this in further episodes, I want to give one MAJOR piece of advice to those wanting to further their abilities on this. Talk aloud. Even if you're the only one around, talk about what you observe and what you plan to do because of it. Alot of easily made mistakes can be corrected simply by doing this. If you spawn in and see a large number of your team on a zone across the map from you, do you want to push to them for safety, flank around the empty part of the map hoping to catch your enemies backs turned to you as they fight your team? These kind of things once said aloud will really put into perspective what's happening, and to continuously do so will build your familiarity with this process, as you start to understand whats happening with out thinking of it, having it become second nature to you, thats when you become a much more dangerous player.
IMO when I think of “game sense” I don’t think of general FPS stuff like what objects are at play, I see it more as like okay Ik that after the warlock on the other team gets a kill he will have kill clip and I will die in 2 bullets kinda deal, game sense IMO is with that one game and dosnt transfer between games
just wondering have you ever covered a video about "when to revive"? i feel like majority of players dont have the proper knowledge/game sense of when to revive a teammate
Perfect example at 10:50. Oh shit rocket missed and he left a grenade. Jump over and push because if it didn't kill him then he's probably weak AF. The problem is I never use the reticle while aiming, now when i get in a gun fight i cant seem to do it. Do you have any suggestions regarding aiming?
Your position will indicate the positioning play style of the position of the enemy. What will happen next ? Your position Will determine this. Position yourself In the best post position that is positionally possible.
