I know I'm on the right path when I'm already following the form tips from one of Brian's videos. That bench unracking tip though, that was new, and I dig it.
#1: Don't rupture a disc in your neck causing you to need surgery. Then still a few years after the nerves are still damaged so the brain can't send great signals to your left arm. #2: Everything else Brian says because let's face it, he knows his stuff
@@BrianAlsruheOfficial wait for it... Getting into position during my warmup bench . Getting my upper back contracted and tight in the process, turned my head a little bit and pop. It felt like electricity went down my arm. Didn't really hurt though. I honestly thought I just pinched a nerve pretty bad. Nowhere near your level but not long before that I hit a 400 bench being a natty vegan. Wanted to get to 405. I'm hovering around 335 now 😭 In between that I ruptured my bicep tendon carrying a kitchen table, caught some lung fungus from dirt that literally only killed me, and had a spinal fusion about 10 years ago and 2 other back surgeries. I'm 43 and will never give up! Side note: I've been following your videos for a long time and recommend them to people. They're full of knowledge and help with inspiration. Keep up the good work and thanks for asking!
Too late. I injured my neck diving in a river and damaged my nerves on the left side. I was pushing 340lbs before. Now I'm pressing 190 lbs. Hoping to recover more strength in the long run.
Great stuff! Love your channel! Would you consider a dedicated series on fixing sticking points or ways to in the main lifts (OHP too) Please and thank you:)
I have already done those videos, my friend! Just check out my benchpress help, dead lift help overhead press help, and squat help playlists. You will find all that information in there.
WHAT IS HAPPENING! sup Brian thanks for the video! I'v got a question- I'm 205 been lifting for 16 years with good diet training and rest/recovery- I'm sitting around 415 bench. I don't really want to get much bigger. Do you think there is a natural bench limit for normal people? pretty much been stuck in the 405-415 range since 2023- I hit it hard changed frequency even up to 5 days a week using 80-85% for 5 total reps. Lots of volume lots of variations.
Thanks for the support man! I think a double bodyweight bench is a great mark that most people will never have the dedication to hit but much depends on your genetics. That said, I would have to see your form because if there is something that could be improved then you can absolutely move up further than you are. But amazing job brother!
Hey Brian! I have a question for gaining strength on bench, should i stick to benching once a week and do my heavy sets then back down higher reps on same day, or train bench twice a week one heavy day plus maybe assistance stuff and one lighter higher rep day? Thanks.
Any tips for improving leg drive on push press? I've got a buddy who I strict press more than but who gets at least 50lbs more out of his legs than I do.
I can usually do about 100 pounds more with leg drive than I can strict. But check out my overhead press help playlist and it will cover absolutely everything you need to know in there.!
Something that helped my push press was changing the angle of my feet. I used to have my toes straight ahead, but now I angle them out slightly and it helped make my leg drive feel more natural. Try experimenting with your foot placement, as well as stance width.

Heyy brian, first i want to thank you for all the amazing content you put out i fricking love your workouts!! I've got a question: i've started wrestling 2-3 times a week since 2 months, and have been running your powerbuilder program. I just got to the testing fase and found my pr's have gone down. My sleep is pretty grate i feel mentaly and emotionaly good, but still this happens. Do you have some kind of explanation? Kind regards
I have found that the best cue for engaging my legs is IF you can imagine a giant arrow where I'm pushing up, it wouldn't be over my gut, it would be over my rib cage. I'm puffing up my chest like a weird MMA preshow.
This video seems to be timed well, since I just finished 2nd week bench day of 4horsemen program, while having plugged in my accurate bench max from previous program, and I couldn't do set 2 and set 3 🎉🎉🎉🎉so i just decreased my bench max for 10kg 😢😢😢😢😢😢
@@BrianAlsruheOfficial That means lowering a true 1RM by 10% right? Yeah my recent maxes come from doing not one of your programs, so I am currently unconditioned 🤓
All of these are great, but I would look at them as the easy part. The hard part of pressing is becoming a bigger meat sack. If my meat is bigger then I'm gonna pass all the little tekneekier meats at some point any way. You can immediately get pounds on squats or deadlifts with technical improvements because the legs already have meat. With presses, outside of the basics you just mentioned technique isn't going to get you nearly as far. Imagine if your pecs, and shoulders were glute sized, and your arms were leg sized... You could press anything. And if you had a back that was as big as 3 backs mashed into one you would just be disrespectfully strong all the way around.
@@BrianAlsruheOfficial I agree, and bigger muscles is a God. That's why Eddie Hall can strict press everyone's max push press. I think both together is the ideal. I'm just saying mass gets you further than skill when it comes to pressing in most cases. Then to be honest if your technique is just passable, and consistent enough, you can get stronger at it by doing the damn work. If you do find something technical that gets you to the next 5 pounds, you can only hit that switch once, and you got stronger by making it easier to move the bigger weight. So you then still have to do the damn work, and then if you really want it you gotta do some shit to get bigger afterwards, because you get stuck, by not having bigger muscles to keep going forward. I think the way you emphasize stability, is extremely productive, but hypertrophy is just part of it that needs more love.
Thank you sir for revisiting some of the basics! They’re too easy to forget sometimes.
Absolutely! I know there is nothing here that I haven’t said before but the basics done well and consistently is what brings uncommon results!

I’m so happy it was helpful brother!
Can you do a “Tricep murder” video to follow this one up? My shoulders and tricep strength is severely lacking.
I definitely can, but check out my assistance, finishers and assistance playlist because I cover a lot of that in there
Vintage Brian Alsruhe... Love these videos
I hope it helps!
@BrianAlsruheOfficial Yes Sir!!
Thank you that was very well said!
Thanks so much for watching it!
Love how you broke down each technique here, definitely going to try adding these to my routine. Thanks for keeping it simple and easy to follow.
Just bought the 45 masters program from the most inspiring weight lifting coach on RUclips. Greetings from Brazil.
Obrigado!
I love how I have that shirt in a T, a stringer, and a hoodie
Regardless I love pin pressing, weighted hand release pushups, and doing 3·2·1 with dips
Great suggestions!
This guy is the best, we need to get him more views!

I’m sorry to hear about your arm brother! How did you rupture a disk in your neck??

Good stuff, very similar bench tips as Alan Thrall

great video. I am going to try that unrack tip today
It can make a world of difference and thank you!
Sweet a new Brian Alsruhe bench press video. Ty bro always enjoy these🙂👊
I am so thankful for the support, and I really hope they help!
Thanks for video Brian. Helps to revise the checklist every now and then. Do you compete in strongman comps?
I used to compete very often but it has been a few years since I have done one

What do think about bench pressing, overhead pressing with dumbbells.
I really like it and if you are more comfortable with that, then I would definitely use them

Brian do you track your daily activity using a step tracker?
I check the steps on my phone that I keep in my pocket. I usually average between 15-20k steps a day
Hi Brian. I am interested in strength training but not at an elite competitive level. Should I get the 10mm or 13mm belt? Thanks.
What do you think about doing chins and oh press on lower days of an upper lower split?
I say try it and see what happens. I like it as a day of its own and have never tried that
@@BrianAlsruheOfficial yeah I’m hesitant to try it because it might just be too taxing and take longer to recover from

Yeahh my workouts got better, aside from some days where my sleep was a little off

What is your thoughts on 120% 1 repmax Isometric hold for 10-20 seconds before working sets
Love it!
5. Have short arms
Haha that doesn’t hurt!
Where did you get that shirt?
It’s from a long time ago

You could try using a training max. People don’t normally have trouble hitting the percentages on the 4H

I don’t think most people have that goal. And strength is a skill. I it’s my contention that technique is king

The kings are 5 deadlift, ground to shoulder, clean and press, snatch and Zercher squat from the ground🦾🦿
I like all of those choices
