Crime of the Century is Supertramp's masterpiece. This is an album to listen to in its entirety.
I saw them do the whole album in '75.
Yes has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Supertramp deserves to join them.
Been a Supertramp fan since 1974. Rudy is one of their best. They have so many. School, Hide in Your Shell, Bloody Well Right, Crime of the Century all from this album.
Supertramp was a BAND. A group of individually brilliant musicians who knew that what they created together was more important than showing off their skills through solos or trying to dominate each other. Each of them knew when NOT to play to let the music shine
Love Supertramp, incredible musicians! I think anyone that's listening to them for the first time, should listen to the studio versions first (IMHO). My favorite song of theirs? They have so many it's difficult to say... But one of my favorites is "Even in the quietest moments". They are definitely a top-tier band. 👍
Yes, Genesis and Supertramp got me through the 70’s. 👍
Pink Floyd for me also, but I loved (and still do) a couple of lesser known bands, Be Bop Deluxe and Barclay James Harvest.
Saw Supertramp 4 times. Supertramp was the last time the music business got it right. They were formed by a businessman thru ads to make cash. Supertramp were free to write great longer pieces just like in the 60s and 70s. They wrote a lot of wonderful feel good masterpieces. Your bang on with your comments.
I was fortunate enough to see Supertramp live twice (1975 & 77). I was supremely lucky in 1977 when my friends and I had second row seats right in front of Rick Davies! This band was one of the best in the world from 1974-1983; up until Roger Hodgson (guitar, keyboards, other lead vocals) left for a solo career. These 5 musicians were adept at "painting a picture" with their complex melodies. Yes, many people know their handful of hits, however, to really appreciate this band, full album listens are required for their core 4 albums released from 1974-79, culminating in their #1 record, 'Breakfast in America,' which produced 3 Top 15 songs. Their 1980 live album, 'Paris' is outstanding!! ✌💋🤟😎
Saw them 3x in concert in the 70's/80's....I still remember the Train Video & these guys were so good live!!!!!
One of those bands that seeing them live was such a blessing in my life. Super Tramp is on my play list. Enjoy
They did this on their Breakfast in America Tour... saw it in Toronto... was my first concert ever... mind blown.. nuff said.
Saw that tour in 1979 as well in LA. Great act live.
Saw the Hogtown show too!
Thank you for speaking so passionately.. about one of my favorite bands of all-time.
Thank you for not talking through it.
"Another Man's Woman"
"Loverboy"
"Just Another Nervous Wreck"
"Gone Hollywood"
"Waiting So Long"
"Don't Leave Me Now"
Those are some hidden gems by this fantastic band.
The live version of “Another Man’s Woman” from the Royal Albert Hall 1997.
Another great album for me is Brother Where You Bound. Not mentioned much in various Supertramp song reviews, but I love the album, one of their best l think.
@@keithjones6023 Brother where you bound is brilliant album with amazing production level.
Straight Up Excellent review and breakdown of this song Rudy!! Chod!!
You got chops.. and props from me :::: love your channel
The train video behind is a famous one made in 1953 by the BBC Film Unit called London to Brighton in Four Minutes. It was made by manually undercranking the camera by about 15x so that when played back it only took 4 minutes for the 51 ile journey.
Back on topic, this is a wonderful piece, and the bluesy start is fantastic.
Somebody probably recommended the live version so I respect that you honored his/her wish but the studio version of this just *sounds* sooo good ....I would say put the studio version on one of your personal playlists. You will really appreciate it. This was cool too, but for sound quality check the original. A Supertramp song with really good keyboards, guitar and (sax too, I think), is "Don't Leave Me Now". I think you'd dig it. Another one I like that I think zero reactions exist for is "A Soapbox Opera". "Hide in Your Shell" is great also.
I fully agree that the studio version sounds so much better, but if you ever saw it performed live the impact on the images with the music was mind warping. I was not prepared for what I experienced.
The studio version is completely untouched by anything, it is truly mind blowing on a surround sound system cranked to full volume. You can hear the vocals on one side and guitar licks on the other and the music just fully “surrounds” you. Just a true masterpiece
@@btmjosh5880 Agreed completely, Josh. You can't beat it.
One of the greatest Prog Rock albums. Stellar!🎸🎵🎧
A definite listen is Supertramp’s Fools Overture next. It’s a bigger masterpiece.
Did you say "Ruby"? Oh alright... we'll forgive. Paris is One of the BEST concert films ever!!! Meticulously captured film and audio, very few like it!!!
Dynamite
Great song to react to. I hope you'll do Fool's Overture one day.
Yep fer sure. One of my favorites
Saw them 3 times in East Canada , plus Roger Hodgson twice at Casino Moncton. Always on my best concert list! So good!!
They were super popular in Montreal before the States even heard of them but they caught up eventually. Great and unique sound.
@@j.h.3777 Yeah they were also popular In N.B. and the Maritimes. Supertramp always thanked Canadians for helping start their massive rise to popularity. Americans caught on but not as big as in Canada.
The best version of their best song...
Thanks Chod glad you liked it!!
Studio version is best
Well said my man. This is still my favorite of many great songs by Supertramp. Listen to the studio version and the whole Crime of the Century album sometime. It is a masterpiece!
That whole album tells a story.
Fantastic reaction, Chod. I knew you'd love the piano in this. 😊
love Supertramp & love seeing them play but in this case you should hear the studio version after . my 2 cents👍👍
My favorite band in my 20s. Still so great. I was listening to this show last night.
Masterpiece song from a masterpiece album. Try School, Hide in your shell, Asylum and Crime of the century.
Thank you very much.. for being one of the ONLY Channels on RUclips that will react to this song.
Please react to the Original Studio Version of this song to hear all the sounds added..when Supertramp recorded it.
I take back my words after watching this video. In this performance they did include the Train Sequence.
Sorry 'bout that.
Thank you.
I still really would listen to the Studio Version..as well.
Nice find. Thanks much to who recommended this.
You've reacted to a number of songs by Supertramp, and this is a good song, but they recorded an incredible Prog song called "Fool's Overture" that is unlike anything you've ever heard.
Please, play more Yes. Their song, South Side of the Sky, is amazing.
SuperTramp is the most underrated super group in history of music. Maybe because they have those very sweet POP hits like the "logical song " very commercial songs. The purists can't catalog they're style as rock or similar. Fantastic musicians ✌☯️
Thank you I love you and SuperTramp
A huge library of music, saw the band 3 times, best show I saw was the Crime of the Century tour
I've seen that 3 times live and it is stunning✌🤘
Saw them once in the old hockey arena in Edmonton. The sound quality was better than most of the bands I heard in that arena, and I saw a lot of concerts there. Part way into the concert, they stopped and called it off, said that they were not able to give their best as one of Hodgson or Davies (can't remember which right now) could not sing to his best because of a cold. They rescheduled and everyone at the concert could either get a refund or come back on the new date. Class act, great musicians.
Here's a suggestion that will shock the heck out of you. A killer banger by Toto, yes that is right, TOTO. Girl Goodbye, off their first album. Amazing vocals, great drum track and the whole production is just a rippin' heavy, hard banger of a song. One of the all time best screams added to the mix as well. Great song, big suggestion on Girl Goodbye by Toto!
back in the day if you had a kickass stereo there was 2 albums you had to have dark side of the moon and supertramp crime of the century
I fully agree with Jeff S.
Chod, you might to listen and view Prince Live; “Play that Funky Music, Hollywood Swinging, Fantastic Voyage”. Also Huey Lewis & The News; “Small World parts 1&2”. Thanks for the super sounds of Supertramp.
i think this was the last concert they did, made the announcement in middle of the show.
Most of what created this song is Rick getting on his choo-choo!
The Sum of thier parts is better than a Superstar on stage....these 5 were well oiled
Rudy - NOT Ruby. "Bloody Well Right!" is one of their greats (long, bluesy intro) from the studio album Crime Of The Century.
The film is of the non stop London to Brighton train ride (50 miles) in 2.5 mins
Please do Asylum or Even in the Quietest Moments next
Prog Rock is the tops!!
The song is called Rudy.
Thank you for the Correction
@@WILBURNREACTIONS You're welcome Chod.
Actually, Chod, Rick Davies (keys here) and Roger Hodgson (guitar here) pretty much wrote the songs individually and brought them to the band mostly complete. There were a few collaborations but they were rare and it's the main reason Roger left the band. He and Rick had too much music to share on one album and they couldn't work together. (They had no problem performing together)
And "Rudy" is a Rick Davies penned song.
Not "mostly complete" . I know that Roger ( and his management ) always said it on every forums and interviews , but I read many interviews with the band members and producers and all of them confirmed that there were only very poor demos , usually contained Rick and Roger voices and the piano lines.
Pls read the interview with Pete Henderson about the songs of BIA.
Chod, try the first song on the album. It is called School. Incredible!🎹🎹🎹
One of their best, that's for sure!
@@keithjones6023 I agree.
They are up there with the best bands of the 70's. For me they peaked with Crime, it's faultless, wonderful melodies, vocals and production. I've got hundreds of albums and if I could only keep five, that would be one of them.
The studio version of this song is much, much better.
Hi Chod , I am going to ask for Procol Harum live in Denmark 2006, especially Whiter shade of pale or maybe Conquistador or Salty dog. Thanks
thats some sick piano playing on this song. not synth..piano.
great song. One of my favs
I love Roger.
should have done the audio version first, then the live
Horns? You like horns??? Ok I got one both of you will drop your jaws on. Love that you reacted to Bruce Springsteen doing Rosalita back in the day and you loved the band's musicianship when Bruce got distracted by those women. Got another one for you. Bruce and the Boys covering the Bee Gees iconic "Stayin Alive"/ Live in Brisbane where the Gibbs bros lived. I am a huge Bruce Fan and was deeply skeptical.. But OMG he makes it his own in what I think is a performance that ranks up there with Freddy Mercury and Queen live in Montreal with "Somebody to Love". This is incredibly good... Make sure you let the video play to the very end as there is a surprise at the end. ruclips.net/video/4n1GT-VjjVs/видео.html
how about reacting to Travelled by Supertramp
😊👍
You know I generally despise reactions to live videos, the sound quality is just not up to par. What I DO like about this one is that you get to see the video they play during the show. It was incredible to see back in the late 70s, one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I do hope you’ll go back and listen to the studio version, because you miss so much awesomeness in some of these live performances.
If you like this try Firth of Fifth by Genesis on the Selling England by the Pound album.
It's not "background" music....
Many of the bands from the progressive genre require focus to appreciate the musicianship, to grasp the depth of the lyrics, to truly experience what they wanted to give the listener. Unfortunately, now many do not have that kind of attention span, needing instant gratification, consuming rather than digesting.
It's similar to the problem faced by authors and journalists. Just a headline or a very brief synopsis ...
not the history that created the headline, give them a video, not the book it came from.
Patience, or should I say, the willingness to invest one's time, and to actually use one's imagination seems to have become a rare occurrence. I guess it's just too much "channel surfing" and the ability to skip the hard stuff ....
Thank you for YOUR time.....
The train video made me dizzy.
what did he say his favorite band was? cgs??
Well, if you are going to react to a song, then why not make it a BLOODY good one! A cracking song from a fantastic album. Studio album version, dare I say is better.
bloody well right 👍👍
@@TheSchuyler75 No, don't Hide in Your Shell, just say it! 😉
Super Supertramp, Great! When I was a teenager........bla,bla,bla, who am I kidding, no one cares. Babagi!
I hear some Billy Joel in this song?
Rudy, not Ruby
You and several reactors say and react to this Band as a Superior Band and say they are Top Tier but when u do your list of your favorite band Supertramp is not included in the top 5.....I don't get it!!!!
I am a big fan of Supertramp. That said, this just doesn't work for me. I much prefer the pre-1983 band. I also didn't like Roger solo.
Tired of fighting you on LIVE versions before the studio recordings. You lose.. we know.
i love the complexity of some of Rick Davies better songs... but, that man should NEVER have written a lyric in his life...!!!!
I think the song was fashioned around that train film.
