The album "Crime Of The Century" is absolutely one of the best-recorded albums of the 70s (therefore all-time) and is worth a listen in its entirety. Very English. Rudy lives a life of quiet desperation alone out of the town center and takes the train to the movie. The drama is internal. The 'wormhole' is the train. Mozart on violin at the end is a busker in the station as another comment points out - symbolizing the humble solace of music for a momentary reprieve.
The fast pace of this song is simulating being on the train. The accordion and violin is mimicking a street performance at the train station. Supertramp is a group of stellar musicians- a mix of pop, blues, jazz and prog. 2 songwriters with different influences - one of the things that make them great. Peace from Toronto
The whole song is about a guy who's commuting on a train & watching his life pass him by! Iv seen Tramp 8 times in concert, I'm 62 now & started listening to them when I was your age. They were one of my top 3 groups because of their creativity & ALL members were world class playing multible instruments & singing. The band was never really able to overcome the loss of Rodger Hinson (the high voice, think logical some) but toured for a number of year anyway. I saw them once after Hinson departed &, unfortunately they just weren't the same.
Keep it up brother, enjoyed seeing your reaction
back in the day, I saw them live - and they were fantastic!
Saw them in '85...was worried they wouldn't sound the same live....they sounded better...truly amazing concert.
Got to see Supertramp 4 times. Went to highschool with John Helliwell's cousin and she looked just like John and she played French Horn.
This album Crime of the Century is stellar. School and Bloody Well Right.
Check your bass for your specs. This whole album deserves your attention, as does most of the Supertramp catalog.
This is def one of their most cinematic tracks and a highlight of their classic album, Crime of the Century.
Thanks for your response! Great to see a first listen 🎶
This was one of my first albums (crime of the century) i bought in the seventies. My first foodstep in a new world of music. A description of my way of being in the centre of a little unknown univers. To feel, to cry, to laugh and to understand the next steps for the folling 50 years of my life. Thanks Supertramp
Thanks, John - Supertramp were amazing.. so many great songs.. and talented musicians with the importance of "balance" -- "Rudy" is one of my favorites.. as is "School"... appreciate your reaction... (ha - this is like ST's "Bohemian Rhap" lol)
Yes, Roland is in New York to begin the Drawing of the Three! Love Supertramp and this song, John. The whole COTC album is fantastic and I saw them on tour for this one and a few years later for the breakfast in America tour and they were excellent live as well. Crime of the Century is one of my all time favorite albums, thanks John!
I feel the song took us from London to Bristol, via Reading, Didcot, Swindon, Chippenham, Bath Spa and Bristol Templemeads. Passengers for Ridley, change at Didcot. It heading west out of London. Always thought Rudy was on a train, went to a cinema in Bristol, then got back on his train (his normal life after the cinema)
Great choice!! Thanks for react this song from the best Supertramp àlbum, by far , an absolute jewel for all the good músic lovers.
From the start till the end each song are masterpieces by itselfs.
Saw them live in Barcelona, they sound perfect in live as a good musicians they are.
All concerts starts and finish with the harmònica intro from School.
Thanks and congratulations.
Keep on rocking.!!!
excuse my english 😅
Nice Reaction, 'Crime of the Century ' I had the Lp back in the mid 70s, it's long and had I had forgotten the Brilliance of it!
Saw them live in a small London venue back in the day!
I'm gonnahave drag my CD copy and play it immediately!!..
Saw them do this in concert in 1983. One of the maybe top 5 concert moments in my life. You're right it's very cinematic.
can you do a whole crime of the century album reaction? that would be just awesome
Great you appreciated it. One of their best. A nod to mike below for recognising the mood of being on a train and in a station. I was weaned on verse chorus verse chorus pop and watched The Beatles change the structure of popular music, followed by others like Floyd, Genesis, Supertramp and so on. Magical stuff
You MUST dig into one of the BEST progressive rock bands to EVER grace a stage !
I have been fortunate enough to have seen Supertramp “The Tramp” Live 3 times. Their live shows are a spectacle and brilliant. Each member is a musical genius. Rick Davies is my favorite keyboards player and John Helliwell is favorite Sax player. He is a blast to watch live. The bass and drummer are awesome and Roger’s guitars are superb. The only live show I put above Supertramp is Pink Floyd, who I have seen 4 times.
The whole song has film noir written all over it. You can see the steam coming up through the manholes in your mind's eye.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE REIGNING WORLD CHAMPIONS OF MIND MUSIC.....SUPERTRAMP
The official video that accompanies this song helps to define the song much more than this version alone.
Logical song does not show what a truly super group they are...forget your obsession with Rush and put them on the back burner and dig into the Supertramp catalogue...
On your electric guitar
It's Diamonds and Roses with the soft and hard elements that can alter the musical/emotional atmosphere in a second!!! I love that you get that!!!
On the Bass John!!! Your glasses are on the Bass!!!😂👍
The ending was recorded at London's Paddington station.
Great reaction. Thanks.
I like the fact that you're not afraid to take a deep dive keep doing your thing
You want to see this performed live with the Train Ride video... awesome
good movies
Maravilhoso é ouvir super tramp.
He starts out on a train to nowhere. He ends up getting back on it. So the intervening material is ultimately pointless. Nothing is going to change. The whole album is bleak like this. It's a lot like Dark Side of the Moon in this regard. Each song fades into the next and the final cut, "The Crime of the Century", closes the circle (like Eclipse on DSOTM). Supertramp isn't a Floyd knock-off, though. They were contemporaries exploring similar themes and pushing the musical boundaries of their day. This album came out just a year after Dark Side. In my opinion it's better than Breakfast in America (with the Logical Song) even though it didn't sell nearly as many copies.
Agree. It is absolutely a deeper, better, more progressive album than BIA.
@@anahatatutuMy first impression when hearing BIA was that they had gone commercial. I enjoyed the album, but for me it wasn't as interesting as their earlier work. Of course I'm just a jack pine savage so what do I know?
'Your Bloody Well Right ' !!!!..
your specs are in the guitar strings behind you.
It's not your basic 12 bar blues rock. It's actually composed more along the lines of classical music. If that makes sens.
Hung up in your G string
Try Bloody well right!
