RIP Lance Reddick for being in the most incredible series in history of action trilogies around. So sad you’re gone at the age of 60 but however we’ll be watching this film to tribute. Take care, Lance, you shall be missed. John Wick is becoming the best anti-hero action hero in the series. Great review, Chris.
It’s the fact that every single film since the first one has been John trying to get his freedom. If John Wick 5 was just him at a beach resort, not killing anybody, it’d honestly be very therapeutic
I think a happy ending wouldn’t fit the overall narrative - he’s a guy who’s been trying to get out yet gets dragged deeper with each movie… it’d be more fitting if he dies at the end of this series.
I'd rather him have a bittersweet ending. He has too much blood on his hands to ever be happy, but I don't want a No Time To Die ending for him either. Maybe some kind of exile would be appropriate.

This series is stuntman porn at its finest and I’m grateful it exists. Really pushes the boundaries of stunts and shows how action movies should be filmed with more long uninterrupted shots and less choppy garbage. This series is not for people who want a deep emotional rollercoaster. This is for (bang, stab, choke, etc) bad guy dead x 1000 type of people. 👌
One of my favorite shots in the movie is one long take of Ian McShane walking through a paint gallery in Paris for fifteen seconds. This movie is just beautiful.
They were in the Louvre. And yeah some of those galleries are massive. If you're not paying attention you might just wander past a Da Vinci and not even realize 😅.
I am stunned that there is no single word of critique. I found it a punishment to sit through this at the cinema. I like action movies, I loved the Raid, Dredd etc. But this? People switching sides multiple times, Wick jumps from point A to B to C... The scene on the roundabout in Paris? Bulletproof suits to justify the script's need for action... Wick jumping out of a third floor for no reason, not getting a scratch... People dancing around guys smashing axes into heads... No stake, no purpose, no sense... I have the impression that Keanu Reeves' presence is somehow skewing the reception of this movie. For me it was like a big-budget Steven Segal flick, which is kind of not a positive rating.
Agree big time, how can people find this a good movie? Unlike the other three movies, there was no story, the action scenes where mediocre or there was no logic. I really don’t understand reviewers nowadays, how they view things some time, but yea big disappointment
@@vincenzoramsay2961 completely agree with you and OP. On top of that, this film feels completely disconnected to the third one. Like what happened to the ending where they were gonna take down the high table? Also, this movie does literally nothing to challenge the high table, it basically confirms that no one can be above them.
SPOILERS . . . . . It's honestly heartbreaking how Charon also met his end in this movie. An eerie coincidence of course and I'm glad he got enough of a proper farewell in this movie, good character overall. RIP Lance Reddick.
John Wick: Chapter 4 gives more medium line deliveries from Keanu Reeves and moments where he realistically would’ve been dead, but the action is still very well choreographed/fun and makes this franchise 4 for 4.
@@Mopark25 there's a dangerous side to awarding stunts. You may start to see "Oscarbait" stunts - which will be bigger and riskier and will keep getting bigger and riskier till someone gets seriously hurt or worse.
@@salvadorHombre I mean, that's on the performers themselves to decide whether or not they want to perform those stunts. It still goes without question that there have been amazing stunt performances that deserve to be awarded.
@@eugger3011 I get that man. But encouraging dangerous stunts with awards is bound to end in tragedy. There are definitely some great stunt performers who deserve awards and recognition and I don't have a solution to offer on how that can be achieved. I just know that introducing an Academy Award for Stunts is going to encourage dangerous stunts that may hurt someone or worse.
@@salvadorHombre Good point. Still, doesn't feel right not to recognize a pretty essential facet of filmmaking that people literally risk their lives for.
Honestly it was a fantastic movie that definitely deserved more in sales than it got but thank God it wasn’t that popular otherwise I’d have to wait longer to see it. My favorite was the fight to the church where killed everyone with a dragon breath shotgun. Superb top down shooting that looked straight out of a video game animation. I will say though the hand to hand combat seems a little silly with how he kills these guys and it times I’m thinking “This guy should be dead already”. All in all that shit was great. Oh and they did my guy Lance Reddick dirty, how do you kill the concierge that was my guy!!!
I was so nervous you would say that Chapter 4 didn’t live up to the others because for me, I think every sequel after the first just kept getting better. Such a relief to hear you say that Chapter 4 was awesome.
2 hours and 50 minute. Gosh, the action is really really cool, many new and fresh action moves and new angle takes. But, the long hour's action scenes without any pause from the beginning till the end made me yawning few times in the theater. And since the 3rd sequel, the story didn't served any new purpose anymore. It's all revolved around: high table, running and chasing, shooting, punching, jiu jitsu throwing. That's all. Imo, the movie should be already ended at 3rd sequel.
I was in theaters recently watching the movie. All the reviews were super hyped everybody was telling me "this is a masterpiece!" Well, to me, it was okay. I mean the cast was fabulous and the action scenes were well made. But the action scenes - to me, were just too long from time to time. It was more like "look what we can do and we brag about it 10 minutes longer just because". To me, they were a bit tiresome. so the movie was all in all 30-40 minutes too long for me. Also the story and lore now is a complete fantasy novel and john wick is a superhuman at this point. Caine as a character is so ridiculous (a blind assassin, come on). I expected something else I guess. It's just too over the top for me now. Nothing wrong with enjoying it but... to me it was/is overrated... sorry :( :(
This movie is utterly ridiculous. Wick is basically an invincible super hero and if the movie was indeed a super hero movie or a video game adaption, it would be way easier for me to invest in this. This whole story takes itself way to seriously for being so out of touch with reality. I would not bet that it's more realistic than Fast X. There is basically no humor and the dialogue scenes are long, unnecessary and dull. The movie is way to long and the CGI is bad. I like Keanu, I like the passion and hard work that he and the movie crew invested for these movies. There are certainly things to enjoy. The set pieces look great (but also very clean and sterile), the action is fun at times and beautifully shot, but also repetitive, unbelievably over the top and it doesn't have any emotional weight. You don't really care for any of these characters and these endless waves of henchmen feel like bots right out of a Call Of Duty game. Btw, is it possible to shoot an action scene without bad CGI nowadays? With actual blanks being fired, blood squibs and guns that need to be reloaded at times? Why does everything look like a video game nowadays? Speaking of video games, the overhead shot sequence is obviously paying homage to the video game "The Hong Kong Massacre". This sequence is easily my favorite part of the movie. It's awesome. I give respect for the cinematography, the stunts and effort that went into the action scenes. I like that they use martial arts actors in these movies like Donny Yen, Mark Dacascos, Scott Adkins (a way to underrated actor imo) and the two actors from the Raid movies that they used in John Wick 3. They pay homage to these actors and their action movies in a way, I respect that. The Wick movies are also very consistent with their look, atmosphere and the world they build. It's just that this whole scenario is so ridiculous and absurd and it kinda feels like they try to emulate the Matrix movies in a way (they even got Morpheus back^^). They lost me at the end of John Wick 2 to be honest. It's just not my cup of tea at this point. I like the first movie. It isn't a great movie, but it's a pretty decent action flick, with a Keanu in top form and a heart for dogs.
The film was too long and alot of the fight scenes just felt like reworks from the previous movies to me, and I`ve never seen so many people get shot at with a handgun at point blank range in a film and not get hit or not get killed when they are hit. As much as I have enjoyed the John Wick films I think it`s best that they end after this one ( no spoilers here )
the Osaka portion of the movie was my absolute favorite. So much style and amazing set design in every frame. Not to mention the amazing score as well! reminded me a lot of blade runner or cyberpunk 2077. I wanna watch the movie again just for that alone!
@@ilovesdeathraceand that was an amazing sequence as well! Can't imagine the amount of work needed to accomplish that top down look and make it look like it was one shot. Hats off to the crew for sure!
God I wish my Dad was still around to see this movie. John Wick 3 was the last movie him and I saw in theaters before he passed. He absolutely loved these movies, and I'm sure he would've loved this one as well, I can't wait to see it.
Gosh, that just brought tears to my eyes because John Wick is the type of movie me and my dad really bonded over. Miss him extra when I see movies I know he would've enjoyed.
@Xiamera Clarke I know what you mean, I find myself saying, "My dad would've loved this," when I check out a new movie or show. It literally happened the other day when I was watching The Last Of Us. I like to think there's an afterlife, and it's your ideal paradise with whatever you want, so I like to think my dad sees movies and shows early. Might sound silly, but it's a nice thought in my mind.
Feel like not enough people talking about the score. The ost was outstanding. It was loud. It was emotional. It was angry and it was beautifully epic in so many ways
The score was amazing! In the fight scene in the Osaka Continental as they were about to extend "hospitality" I literally was put in mind of the opening run scene of 28 Weeks lLater. It was moving.
It was amazing until they got into Paris and dropped the bass too soon. Everything that came after Gesaffelstein was like a downer, which I get because of the sequences, but Justice felt so out of place. Other than that, phenomenal.
Hard to believe that this man hunt for John Wick all started from the death of his beloved dog… all he wanted was to be left alone and grieve over his wife’s death in peace. Amazing film. I enjoyed all chapters.
Keanu Reeves Matrix Series: $1.8 Billion Keanu Reeves John Wick Series: 590 Million With Estimates of John Wick 4+5 to hit 800 Million Combined = 3.2 Billion in 9 Movies.
The continuity in all 4 movies are absolutely amazing. And that over head shot: John going room to room clearing bad guys was just a masterpiece of a scene…

I thought the overhead shots with the dragon's breath rounds was amazing, I don't think I've seen that before. The entire Osaka set piece was some of the most stylish action I've ever seen!!!!

After seeing John wick 4 twice now I have to say that The trailer did this movie little to no justice but in a good way! I was absolutely blown away by this movie and unlike the other John wick films I found myself more invested in the story rather than the action this time around. The villain was amazing and the side characters really stood out. Everything is bigger, the stakes are higher but the movie never feels bloated, the best john wick film and a perfect ending in my opinion
i totally agree .. when the trailer came out I had no intention of watching this in theatre .. but when the reviews came in and everyone recommended it and it kept garnering applause from all corners of the fraternity, i watched it in theatre and got blown away .. there was a guy sitting next to me who had brought his son for second viewing and he was still enjoying every second of it

The first 3 John Wicks all feel different. The first is a simple “revenge” action movie, the second is a clean and slick expansion on the first movie, the third is so over-the-top bonkers that it becomes absurdly comedic. And they’re all great in their own way. It’s one of the only current franchises that I’m looking forward to seeing more sequels from!
I remember watching Nightcrawler in 2014 with Jake Gyllenhaal. It had projector issues during the film so because of that I got to see the first John Wick for free. So crazy to see how far this franchise has come.

Sadly I think the dog was worse at this movie. That old twin German shepherds with bulletproof gear were better as the moves, training and the jacket was so logical that you can sadly kill an undefended dog easily with John Wick universe.

@@grrinc nah I disagree, by that same logic you’d have to argue that Akira was also “pointless”, and down the road semantics would push us to arguing if damn near every character was pointless. He served to add depth to the John Wick lore, adding detail to the inner “economy” - he was cool as fuck, had a cute dog, even had a character arc. Also took an important part in several of the best scenes in the movie! If he didnt exist the Killer poker sequence wouldve been way less fun
SPOILERS ALERT People liking it have low expectations because a lot of this movie is ridiculously bad. - How many times he gets run over by a car (about five times)? - how many times enemies have the opportunity to shoot his head but somehow they just miss. - he jumped out of a building, lands on a car, then ground, and just walks off before everything that happens on the stairs. - he falls several times from the stairs at the end and is not bothered. - Caine stabs his hand and he's fine. - he dies and no one's sad for him. He doesn't even bother going to the hospital. Marquis is dead so why didn't Caine help him? - Caine: you'd wonder why they had to make him blind? His gestures and fights would have been more credible had he been able to see. His fights were good but no way he makes it alive the whole movie blind. Especially fighting armed men. - the post-credit scene is super predictable. You would wonder where Akira was the whole second half of the movie. Would have been better had she helped John fight off the enemies at the end. - the tracker has zero charisma. He doesn't look like he's threatening. He's just a dog person with a sniper gun. - super cliché bad guy character: European looking and super soft/insecure type. As usual in these types of movies. - it makes zero sense to shoot scenes in Paris in the middle of crowds but not interfere with them. Ex: fights and chasing at the Arc de Triomphe: a huge and busy roundabout where no one stops their cars. It's about 5 AM and there's no crowd gathering around them, no police in sight. It's Paris! - also John escaping with a bike only to leave that bike before reaching Montmartre... Anyone who's been to Paris wonders why he did that. Clearly he could have continued. There was barely people chasing him at that point. For better action movies, refer to the Raid movies (better fights), or the Equalizer (better actors, less drag) or even the Bourne trilogy (better scripts).
*I always said the first JW was the best* cos it made me care about every character with its great story.. the other two - - While good - didn’t hit the same cos the stories weren’t that good.. although I love the 2nd one - but THIS looks like it’s hammering on the story and action elements.. it looks like the best one since the first.
Other two movies barely even have any story. they just feel like a non stop action film that just sets up sequel after sequel. hence why I'm not really that fond of Chapter 3, that ending was so terrible in ky opinion. it was absurdly unrealistic and it was just there as an excuse to make chapter 4
I always watch the first 3 minutes of your videos just to get your initial take. Then I go watch the movie come back and finish your video to see if I agree with you. I usually do.
All four movies feel like an entire arc masterfully done to its completion. It really reminded me of some of the best directed anime series that came out in the 90s and in a certain way it ends like so, if you know you know. There are some weak moments, and it all wasn't perfect but, I respect it when a film series has the balls to tie up a storyline and creatively continue the franchise in new and exciting ways.
I love your reviews. They are insightful and intelligent. And I HATED John Wick 4. It was nothing like the first one. True, weaker, and 90 minutes too long. Assassins? I wouldn't pay a plug nickel. God. 3 hours of my life lost.
It’s incredible that this franchise has been able to maintain momentum for so long. Keanu Reeves just embodies this character in a way that….. oh god I gotta go take a dump.
Would you consider yourself to be a good person? Well then tell me: How many lies have you told, and what do you call someone who lies? Have you ever stolen something (even when you were small. Even from your parents. Even a sweet), and what do you call someone who steals? Have you ever taken God’s name in vain (very serious; in Old Testament times, the Jews wouldn’t even say the name of God for fear of blasphemy) - even ‘OMG’? Jesus said whoever looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery in his heart; have you ever looked with lust? One more: Ever disrespected your parents? Well I’m not judging you - but if you’ve done these things then you’re a liar, thief, blasphemer, adulterer-at-heart and rebel, so you're not good enough to go to heaven; that’s how seriously God takes sin. God is holy (perfectly good/righteous and separate from sin) which means that He is perfect in justice; that means that just like a just judge does sentence criminals to pay for the wrong they caused, God sentences the punishment of all sins. No good deeds you've done have removed your sins and you've done many. If a criminal is found guilty and says to the judge that they've changed since then, repented and done many good deeds is the judge going to let them go? No - because that doesn't erase their crimes. And if God were to judge you by the moral law would you be innocent or guilty? Heaven or Hell? Because of your sins, the answer is hell - the wrath of God upon you for your sin. And that's why Jesus - the Son of God and the only one who lived a perfect life - came. Because on that cross as Jesus died, He took on the sin of the world and was judged in your place; receiving God’s wrath for sins so that you wouldn't have to. You and I broke God’s law, but Jesus paid the fine. God can justly forgive us. On that cross He died, then He was buried, but 3 days later He was raised from the dead - conquering death and Hell and ushering in The Kingdom of God. Now He's in heaven and one day will judge the world in righteousness. What you need to do is repent to God and trust alone in Jesus Christ and His work on the cross. Believe in Jesus - who's God incarnate. God has given no other name but the name of Jesus by which men must be saved.
[SPOILER] Watched it last night with a girl who also loves John Wick series, and we were both a little disappointed. It was 3 hours of nonstop combat with very little ups or downs in pitch, just a constant stream of drawn-out battles like a pipe organ stuck at a high note. Every major fight was 20 minutes long, and they all took place in very public places without attracting police or even disturbing passers-by. There were too many nonsensical plot elements like blowing up the NY Continental in broad daylight (why would an underworld organization want to call that much attention to itself?) and 4 poker players all drawing insanely good hands at their first try. It just felt really, really weird. This movie needed to be half an hour shorter, and some of the fights should have been quick bursts of violence, not an all-out battle.
JW4 is a technical masterpiece, but has NO plot, the fights while amazing go on way too long. Anyone that says it is better then the first are either getting paid or just love unrealistic action. The villain has no motivation and the amount of silly action armor Wick has is so stupid. There are only so many times John Wick can fall multiple stories or get hit full speed by cars before you lose me. Not to mention kevlar has become a magical thing that stops bullets point blank. It's fun for a bit, but ultimately too ridiculous.
saw this at sxsw and WOW this is easily my favorite of the series. it takes all the world building and really crafts it together to be an extremely satisfying movie. The overhead scene is one of my favorite things I've ever seen in a movie recently
Very entertaining but it lost some of the magic that made it kinda grounded. This latest entry plot is kinda the same as the third but with some Fast and the furious feel. I think that the lore was kinda messy this time and the ending while fitting and obvious was kinda gratuitous after all the absurdity that happened.
For me it's impressive that the JW movies gradually improved from it's predecessor, and I'm glad it's continuing in that trend. I'm re-watching 1-3 to prepare for this ‼

I think it's meant to be a live action video game basically. Hence no police in any country or city they go to as well
Agree big time, how can people find this a good movie? Unlike the other three movies, there was no story, the action scenes where mediocre or there was no logic. I really don’t understand reviewers nowadays, how they view things some time, but yea big disappointment
@@vincenzoramsay2961 completely agree with you and OP. On top of that, this film feels completely disconnected to the third one. It's honestly heartbreaking how Charon also met his end in this movie. An eerie coincidence of course and I'm glad he got enough of a proper farewell in this movie, good character overall. RIP Lance Reddick.
1 and 4 have to be my favorites of the series. Saw 4 last night and was amazed from start to finish. So good! RIP to Lance Reddick. Will be missed.
the hotline miami like scene in the third act was EVERYTHING!
John Wick: Chapter 4 gives more medium line deliveries from Keanu Reeves and moments where he realistically would’ve been dead, but the action is still very well choreographed/fun and makes this franchise 4 for 4.
The stunts are so amazing there should be an Academy Awards category for them!
Seriously, it's waaaay overdue.
It's mind-boggling that stunt performers don't have their own category
@@Mopark25 there's a dangerous side to awarding stunts.
You may start to see "Oscarbait" stunts - which will be bigger and riskier and will keep getting bigger and riskier till someone gets seriously hurt or worse.
@@salvadorHombre I mean, that's on the performers themselves to decide whether or not they want to perform those stunts. It still goes without question that there have been amazing stunt performances that deserve to be awarded.

John is not dead, the tombstone is a cover.
Shout out for the mention of "The Raid" movies. They were super iconic and amazing.
I think this movie is perfect in almost every way, except for the fact that John shouldn't have any bones left by the end of the movie
I enjoyed the review. Chapter 4 is my new favourite installment. Also, you kind of remind me of a younger version of Harbinger, Marquis' henchman!
I'm surprised Stuckman made no reference to The Warriors homage with the silky smooth radio dj lady and the Nowhere to Run needle drop 👏🤓
I was so nervous you would say that Chapter 4 didn’t live up to the others because for me, I think every sequel after the first just kept getting better. Such a relief to hear you say that Chapter 4 was awesome.
Donnie Yen was really awesome, but I wasn't sold on the ending.
Lance Reddick has past away. Sad day for his family and I am sure for all the people that have worked with him. John Wick fans will miss him dearly.
I thought the 3rd film started to drag after the armored dudes. Hearing this one's longer worries me.
I was in theaters recently watching the movie. All the reviews were super hyped everybody was telling me "this is a masterpiece!"
Well, to me, it was okay.
I agree with you on the length thing. But Justice League had no right to be that long and I'm talking about the Snyder cut also.
The Ozaka portion honestly felt like a 3rd act action scene. So crazy that it was actually the first one in this movie
Donnie Yen and Hiroyuki Sanada were such a highlight too
This was almost my favorite but the dragon breath scene just has to take it for me personally
@@ilovesdeathraceand that was an amazing sequence as well! Can't imagine the amount of work needed to accomplish that top down look and make it look like it was one shot. Hats off to the crew for sure!

People liking it have low expectations because a lot of this movie is ridiculously bad.
Definitely my favorite of the John Wick movies. Incredible stunts and action sequences. R.I.P Lance Reddick 🙏🏾
Chapter 2 expanded the universe but chapter 3 really was just to set up everything that happens in chapter 4. You’ll love chapter 4, trust me.
The ending has to be the best thing in the series, symbolically and literally. Beautiful.
That overhead shot literally made my jaw drop!
I always watch the first 3 minutes of your videos just to get your initial take. Then I go watch the movie come back and finish your video to see if I agree with you. I usually do.
Amazing he was so bad in that last matrix movie though, why are the fight scenes so poor in that compared to the wick series…
See you, space baba yaga
@@michaal105 God damn I gotta take a dump again.

Wtf
Lemme hear it for my boy Keanu
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
saw this at sxsw and WOW this is easily my favorite of the series. it takes all the world building and really crafts it together to be an extremely satisfying movie. The overhead scene is one of my favorite things I've ever seen in a movie recently
This franchise is one or two movies away from fighting in space with laser guns.
That first 60-90 min was too heavy and sluggish. Wore you out before the gauntlet of the preposterous finale.
10/10 Movie, John Wick is one of the best movie series of all time.😊
Certainly THE best action movie series of all time.
@@johnnycalvino7490 yeah that's right 😊😇
Very entertaining but it lost some of the magic that made it kinda grounded. This latest entry plot is kinda the same as the third but with some Fast and the furious feel.
I think that the lore was kinda messy this time and the ending while fitting and obvious was kinda gratuitous after all the absurdity that happened.
Oof gotta admit hearing the runtime dampens my excitement a bit, but of course I’ll still be checking it out asap
Just watched it, didn't drag at all, nor was it draining or had diminishing returns like some of the first act of EEAAO
This 4th film solidified this series as the top action flicks of all time.
Going to watch it just for Keanu Reeves !!
For me it's impressive that the JW movies gradually improved from it's predecessor, and I'm glad it's continuing in that trend.
I'm re-watching 1-3 to prepare for this ‼
Ahh it was a bit repetitive. The same fight seen 240 times. I was done when the 400lbs man was beating wick to a pulp.
I absolutely love this series. Already got my tickets next week!
Me personally.. this movie didn't feel like 2 hours and 40 minutes.. was so entertained that time went by just like that.. its that good 😂
