Saving A Cosmo - Making The Sills Pt1 (Richards L10a)

  • Making the inner and outer sill structure for Richard's L10a Cosmo. Replicating the original panels by adding the OEM drain indentation and pressings. Added much more "during the work" clips to this video and didn't cut out any step-by-step details. It's quite time consuming and a tricky process to replicate stamped panels by hand and work out the most economical solution with the tooling I have available.
    Also made the D/S dogleg and another 2 pairs of sills for the other two Cosmos. Got to the stage where I'm ready to unpick the floor and inner structures so that I can fit the floorpans I made previously in another video.

      Nah not fussed on that, the reason I avoided this platform for so long is that it's oversaturated with clickbait/cringe or garbage work just for views, something I have no interest in. I only post here as I can only post 10x 1minute videos on instagram and you lose too much information doing that. Here I can just leave All the detail and provide people starting out with all the tips,tricks and what not to do that I wish I knew when I started 😅

    This was in the 80's a lad I worked with kept taking days off then surprised everyone by handing his notice in he's got a job at the new Nissan plant in Sunderland that had just opened , he had got a old workmate a job with us he told us he was had assembling the cars , shortly after I had a day off noticed I got docked wages which normally never happened the boss told me he was annoyed the kid had lied over getting the Nissan job and had rang in sick , saying that we got a £20 pay rise to stop us going there , just a little bit of nostalgia .

    Will you make your Cosmo wider than original?

    • @notevn
      @notevn  10 месяцев назад +2

      Umm with mine it will just be same as normal for the width, I have shortened the rails and floorpan to accommodate 9 and 10" wheels with ease under the standard bodywork without having any tacky looking flares/widebody.

    Awesome job man! Question - if drainage was an issue from factory, when doing these repairs, do you add more / are there any tricks for better drainage to try and avoid the same issue down the track?

    • @notevn
      @notevn  10 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks mate. Yeah I look at doing a solution to the issue where I can. (Like removing the roof to quarter join that rots out due to the chrome trim holding water there)
      With this I will just add a larger drain hole that drains it directly out the bottom of the sill under the vent and properly waterproof the hell out of that area with sealer before I put the lower quarter back on.

  • @deankdx
    @deankdx 10 месяцев назад +1

    that's a disaster of a drainage solution by the factory, will you improve on it for the other custom ones? (like a dimple die into a drain tube out of that swimming pool area in the guard bottom) always interesting to see the process of making the shapes and how it fits like a factory part in the end. i remember kicking the "surface rust" of a car door once and my foot went through it, i didn't keep that door but i should have cut the piece out to see how bad it was

    • @notevn
      @notevn  10 месяцев назад +1

      Terrible isn't it. Destined to fail.
      Yeah I will probably make a splash tray under the vent that routes any water directly out the bottom of the gaurd like a sunroof drain . And just do proper sealing/waterproofing of the inner areas before the front lower goes back on.
