I went to ace hardware and bought some dewalt brand bits. Starting with a small bit and moving my way up to and larger one drilled just like the video was saying. Using oil. Using an extractor. That didn’t work for me. My extractor broke off in the hole also. I had some issues and troubles with luck. So I drilled the extractor to. Finally, I drilled the complete thing out and had to re-thread it to match the boat needed from the dealership.
Brian I feel your pain. My 88 f150 did the exact same thing. 3 water pump bolts broke off. Ended up cutting the timing cover off at the bolt channels. They had seized in the timing cover channel. What a nightmare that was . Once off I turned the bolts out of the block with my fingers 😂. Then t-stat housing bolt broke off 😢. So o found this tool that grips down on the bolt and then you back it out with a wrench or ratchet. This worked once I got it tight enough on the bolt and it didn’t slip. Can’t remember the tool name but it looks like the chuck on a drill. May try that next time. It saved my stress level from having to drill and tap😂
Great channel, appreciate the effort you put into it! I don't know if anyone's mentioned this so I figured I'd pass it on. When I started working at an engine re-builders I was stripping apart the engines that came in. Completely seized bolts that would snap off happened several times a day. I had straws that I would fill with bees wax and let cool, kept them at my work station and even sold them at the front counter to customers for a $5 contribution to the social fund. Now I just use a pure bees wax taper candle. I would use a torch to get the bolt good and hot and then press the straw into the threads and let the wax melt down and into the threads, it didn't take much (even upside down capillary action will suck the melted wax into the threads). When it cooled down you could easily turn out the bolt with pliers, if it broke off below the surface I'd make a small divot near the edge of the bolt with a sharp center punch and turn it out by holding the center punch at an angle and lightly tapping it with a hammer, chasing it around in a circle as it turned out. The best thing about this is I never tore or stripped the threads, especially in aluminum. 25 years later it's still my preferred go to, maybe give it a try sometime.
I just broke one off , it’s a 10mm thermostat housing bolt? Why so dam small😖walked away from it for the day, I’ll get it! Some how ? Probably to short for the vice grip and torch trick there’s probably going to be some drilling and tapping involved?
Did you need a special or special tap set since for this application, I'm being told by a mechanic that have to take the entire engine apart because of hardened steel they can't just tap it on 2010 caravan
Progress has stopped because of this problem. 88 5.0. The bolt broke off the at the water pump. They have tried everything so far. They have to take off the timing chain cover now.. hoping for the best.
Brian, aren't you in southern California? Was this an out-of-state vehicle from Midwest or northeast? Or do you see this kind of rusted bolt issue in California cars sometimes?
It's been my experience that if you let the cordless tool work the easy out it usually breaks free where doing it by hand seems to just eat away at the hole. ;-)
lonely mechanic I wasn’t trying to torch the nut I was heating the housing behind it. Unfortunately I was out of acetylene so I didn’t get a good weld on it.

I doing the same thing. Taking me over two weeks now. To replace my lower 01 ranger. Thanks for your video.
Not a fun job. Thank you for watching!
What bits are you using, I’ve tried about 10 none are getting through
Great work Brian. It takes patients to do it right.
More patience than a hospital.

Had a similar situation yesterday. Heat and vice grips worked, no drilling
Got to love it when you don’t have to drill
I broke the bolt to the thermostat housing and it's in a tight area, with me luck
How’d it go?
When bolts break, do you charge the customer for that or do you have to eat your time?
If it’s broken due to rusty conditions I charge. If it broke because I did something stupid then I won’t charge them.
Did you add extra labor on the ticket just wondering so when i run into this problem

I’ve never herd of that before. I’ll have to give it a try. Thank you for sharing and watching!
What kind u drill bit use ?
What if I can’t get it out. Could I replace the whole thing?
Good video! I once had a steering wheel stuck in my pants. It was driving me nuts.😂
Jacob 😂
I hope you’re not mig welding with acetylene! Hopefully your using a 75/25 mix or at least 100% argon

Me to man thinking about getting a whole new piece

I had this problem when I broke off 2 of my water pump bolts I I welded a washer and a bolt and remove it
I hate rusty bolts, great info!!!!

hello .
what to do with stucked bolts?
How did you clean out the hole where the water runs? Bunch of oil and debris got in there.
Vacuum and rags

You got an easy one there! Good tips!
Thank God it was an easy one.
Easy one? Looks like a nightmare lol
The nightmare of every mechanic
Luigi Gonzalez for sure!
Yep that's why I'm here🤦♂️😆
Nice work, not an easy one.
cardo thank you!
Was that a Ford vehicle? It happens to me all the time with those damn Ford. Regards.
I feel you pain.
You need to weld it good and hot.. give it a minute and break it loose.. you don't need to use a touch

@@HowtoAutomotive sorry I mean you don't need to heat it up.. the heat from the weld its good enough.. good video 👍
Oh lord. Wasn't lucky on this one 😕
I'm not putting fire in my engine FUCK that
Good luck with the bolt. Without heat it may not come out and you’ll have to drill
Świetny film 👌😉
Łapka i sub lecą i liczę na to samo 😊
