This is the BEST tip I have ever seen in forty years of struggling to get consistency. I can hit the ball like a pro with 100 different swings but none consistently. After trying this, the difference between bad and good shots has closed massively and this tip works with chipping, pitching and the driver although the wrist does release a little earlier because you have the ball more forward. Shot 7 over last week. And i am hitting the most boring iron shots ever. Thanks Zach!
Greg Norman developed a training aid exactly for this purpose (Greg Norman Secret). If understood how to use it and the purpose, it's extremely effective for someone who casts, has a chicken wing follow through or thinks the release of the club is the wrist angle releasing (not hinge angle). Problem is, for someone who casts etc., it will feel so foreign to them that they will think it's bogus unless an instructor is assisting them. Maintaining the angle in the right hand is indeed a "secret" to solid ball-first contact, compression and the feel of "covering" the ball - at least for those who have yet to do it.
This is a really good tip it kinda can be explained like tthis: your trying to swing wit hyour arms and hands toght/close to your body, keeping the right arm tucked in through the impact and the hands moving left at impact rather than out toward the target. Definitely improves compression, which improves contact, ball flight, consistency and distance. You can see all pros from John Daly, Dustin Johnson, Tiger Woods, Mcilroy doing this!
Great tip - I use this and have gotten spectacular results, especially when hitting out of 2nd cut/deeper rough. Combine it with a shortened back swing and as long as you stay in the shot you'll begin to see less balls left in the rough and some crazy distance. Definitely in my top 5 free tips.
I have been working on this the position of the bent right wrist coming into impact and seeing good results (and straighter shots) and some decent compression. I really have to concentrate on good posture, proper grip and solid backswing and then finally, I can come into impact with this good wrist condition. Sadly if some of these other things are not correct, its going to make it so much tougher to get the wrist in the proper position. So just trying the right wrist bent w/o these other fundamentals may not work. I know because I was that person who tried it w/o good fundamentals and was not successful.
This is absolutely essential. Start off learning to chip this way and then take that impact feel to the full swing. There's no way you are not going to get better if you've been a flipper.
This is what I needed yesterday. I had trouble with an early release yesterday. I will definitely try this. Does the same concept work with the driver?
Super slo-mo videos confirm exactly what Zach Allen is stating. EVERY tour pro I viewed had a slight bending of the right wrist at impact. In conjuction with a slightly bent right elbow. Only AFTER impact do the wrist and elbow straighten. I also viewed several PGA instructors who endorse "dumping" everything AT impact. Meaning full wrist and arm extension AT impact. Wrong!
what about the release?..doesn't the right wrist straighten out at the bottom of the swing when the club makes the transition from downward to upward?...this seems to indicate that you don't let get of the lag!
Hey zach i went to my coach and he told me to do the same thing but im pushing my irons hybrids fairway woods and driver i feel im not releasing the club right and i tend to shank it. great for compression but my direction is bad. please help .thank you
how to "maintain the lag that's were the secret lies ; and you can search all your life if it is not told more technically on how the right arm lever(s) work !

It’s the best training aid I’ve ever used. It’s a definite game changer 👍

thank you Zach very useful. Do you confirm you keep the right wrist bent in the finish ?

How do you release from the top and keep that angle? Wouldn't that make you just drag the club through without any release of the club?
Great drill. Thanks.

what about the driver..does this still apply?
Thanks for the tip.
Hey Zach I Started Compressing The Ball Great,And I'm Not Sure What Happened But Now I Tend To Leave The Club Face Open And Fade The Ball. Any Tips?
hi can one setup with this kind of wrist bend?
What about correctly releasing the club?
I assume then you don't release the club with your wrist?
still a good drill
Cool pants Zach
Keeping this wrist angles through finish is madness and poor swing thought can cause a lot of problems

Helps as u get older and swing gets shorter
at 1.18 your right wrist is totally straight...
Probably because he releases, that was the part i missed
bcoll78. Because he is releasing, it's normal.
Hahaha....he hit it thin and didn't take a divot
