    Before starting any of these steps get some beers in the fridge to maintain hydration levels throughout the build. this also helps you not worry too much when you still have parts left over after the build, after all...(lightness and weight saving are key with rc racing)

    Another thing to add: If you can find buildlogs or anything like that online, read those before starting to build. More often than not they will point out errors in the manual or tricky parts of the assembly so you can prepare for that.
    My first kit was a RC10T4 Team Kit and those shocks are near impossible to build without their green goo, which isn't included. Even then you'll probably need two or three extra sets of o-rings because they will break during installation. I talked to many people who built one of these and I don't think even one person managed to get those shocks perfect just by using the included materials.

    Hi Brett, sorry to bother you, but I’ve bought a vintage kyosho sandmaster st with an Alps 10 pull start engine with an alloy chassis, but i can’t find any information on it anywhere, like what air filter i need, what plug etc and can you get a taller cylinder head for better cooling. It’s not the st2 and it has an alloy top deck.I had a laugh with you when you mentioned the shock stand, i was actually thinking about one literally when you mentioned it lol Awesome builders tips, the amount of bodges I’ve seen, especially using pliers and vice grips on shock shafts with nothing in between scoring the shafts, then wondering why they leak. Awesome video Brett, you make videos really enjoyable to watch and you explain everything beautifully, making it easy to understand better.👌🎩🇬🇧

    • @AMain_Hobbies
      @AMain_Hobbies  4 года назад

      Hey Mikey! Happy to hear the video has helped. I couldn't find a manual no matter what was searched, and i believe the name was Sandmaster 10. I would recommend finding some vintage groups and ask for info in the forums. You can probably still find some parts for the buggy, but the engine will be really hard. Not sure how set you on using this buggy, but from what i've read, that engine size is too small for the vehicle size and weight. Might be best to clean her up and shelf her, but you should still ask more in the groups.

    Bret I find it absolutely hilarious that each and every person who does any tips and tricks for rc car shocks always builds them wrong
    . I actually have a video on my channel showing the proper way to build them. What i am talking about is the O-Ring pack or X-ring pack. Everyone always builds the O/X-ring pack by putting all the seals into the hole then tightening up the cap before putting the shaft threw then all say becareful to not damage the orings with the treads. You know how to never damage the ring pack. Build the shock shaft up with the piston send it into the shock body. Then slide the O/X ring pack onto the shock shaft and slide the assembly down to the ring pack area then tighten the bottom cap up. The reason I say you all do it wrong is when you assemble the way you show what your doing it squishing the rings which in turn closes up the hole where the shaft slides threw. Inturn sliding the shaft threw this can and will damage the rings as no matter how you look at it the threads act like a file. So by slideing the seals down the shaft gives the rings room the swell around the threads and shaft and once they are in the bottom with the cap tightend down the rings will then shrink up the proper way as designed to do so around the shock shaft with a perfect air tight leak free long lasting perfect performing damper. Try it once you do it you will always build your shocks this way. Check out my vid if you need a visual

    What’s the best way to remove a ball cup from the ball?

    • @AMain_Hobbies
      @AMain_Hobbies  4 года назад

      Needle nose pliers to turn it over. Some ball cups have a hole on the top to unscrew the ball stud with it still installed in the cup. This is best if your intentions are to remove the ball stud. Each time you remove a ball cup and snap it back on, it fatigues the material, making it slightly weaker each time. Ball cups are super inexpensive though, so it doesn't really matter (until a ball cup pops off when you're leading the race).

    • @AMain_Hobbies
      @AMain_Hobbies  4 года назад +1

      The downside is competition cars are usually more expensive. The kits are expensive and the electronics can be much more expensive too. Buying a RTR is usually half the price as building up a competition kit from scratch. But competition cars make some of the best bashers. 1/8 scale e-buggy or e-truggy are excellent bashers! If you inspect the Arrma 6S BLX vehicles, they are former 1/8 competition platforms, slightly tweaked for bashing. The Kraton 6S BLX was a competition truggy and it's one of the best bashers available. Hope that helps.

    I ready do like the idea of building my frist rc kit...However where I live in NE GA there are no tracks around me without me having to get a hotel to race... on the other hand I have about $500 for everything. Buying an R/C that sits on the shelf isn't a good idea because you'll shortly want to sell it for a vehicle you can use. Sorry to hear you don't have any tracks in your area, that is a bummer.

    Tips for building an R/C Car:
    1) Rip open the box and throw it out to clear space.
    2) Open all bags at once, this will save you time later.
    3) Use only the tools included in the box, these are factory tools and better than any generic crap you have in your tool box.
    4) Try to get the build done as fast as you possibly can, this will allow you to get on the track sooner.
    5) Assume the directions are right, even if it doesn't make logical sense. Remember, professionals designed this kit and they are smarter than you.
    6) Following directions are for losers and weak men, skip step 5, man up and throw that thing in the garbage.
    7) Lots of oils, grease etc, will come in the kit. These are not necessary. Skip these steps to save 10-20 minutes of time.
    8) Install and solder all electronics good enough so they work, don't worry about the wires, just bunch them somewhere inside of the car.
    9) Your kit will likely come with a clear body, don't waste time painting it (see step 4) slap that thing on clear and get on the track.
    10) Your kit will also not come with tires and/or wheels. Use whatever you have lying around thats already mounted even if it's not for the right surface.
    11) That's it! You are now ready to hit the track and become the next IFMAR world champion!
    You're welcome.
