I was thinking that exact same thing! I've wanted the Celine Classic for over a year, and it offers so much more than the Bobby. It's understated, whereas I suspect this CD logo will eventually get changed.

Simple: not worth it. Bags given to influencers for free will never be worth the retail price. This bag will be hyped up now and forgotten within a year. Dior bags in general don’t have longevity nor good resale value. It’s a pretty shape but nothing new.
I feel like those newer styles from Dior are more ‚novelty bags’, if you know what I mean. Good for IG photos, but not so practical. The Montaigne, the Saddle, the book tote, now this one. At least this one seems actually usable.

I am trying to get a classic style from each of the designers, Chanel, Dior, etc. I was wondering if you can share your expertise and mindful spending habits on which bags to start with from each of the main designers...for instance, I would be thinking Lady Dior, Fendi Peek-a-Boo, Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis, Channel Classic Flap and also love, love, the Channel 19 Flap!!!! I would love to hear how you begin to build a collection.

I do really like this bag....I would love to see in person. The creasing makes me nervous and smooth leather. I debated this bag knowing if I got the medium...preferred size...I have an oblique guitar strap from my sadde that would work....BUT i love the brown one the best so forget that! It does make me debate between the puzzle and the bobby as that is the drawback on the puzzle it stands out from the body. Decisions!! I saw another RUclipsr (Kat L) mention that the Dior Bobby looks exactly like the JW Hulme legacy bag-- I took a look at the JW Hulme site and the bags look almost identical (!!!) It seems like the JW Hulme design has been around for 50+ years too. Personally, I might go for the JW Hulme one which looks to have a more timeless design and is a bit more understated. It's also 1/10th the price too.

I have not held the Bobby bag yet but I have a feeling that you are correct in that the bag is very well made and the leather quality seems superb. However its a style that I would wear everyday and would not want to pay designer price for. I can think of other bags that I would rather splurge on and take for the weekend like a small lady Dior or Chanel mini.
oh my god. i remember buying my saddle bag when it first came out years ago... it was 840 euro (cognac leather). and now they cost 2600 euro! what happened?!?! xD i even have the crossbody saddle bag. it did cost 1.300 euros... this is insane. i dont believe the whole production process changed that much.
This is very reminiscent of vintage Coach, you're better off perusing pre-loved/vintage collections. And if you find a Coach bag with that thick glove tanned leather, it's a bigger win with a timeless design and they will still provide cleaning and conditioning of the bag.
You mentioned the creasing of the leather on the closure/lock part of the bag. Did you or anyone else on here not notice the shape of the closure?? it looks like men genitals.. once you see it you cant unsee it.

I do not like the bag and sadly I am put off by bags that are pushed by influencers. Particularly, if the bag doesn’t have a history at the fashion house. Bags such as the Chanel 2.55 (reissue), Celine’s Classic Box, Dior’s Saddle and Prada’s Re-Edition in my opinion are iconic as they have established a history at the fashion house predating them being pushed by influencers. I feel the same; I really don't like bags that are gifted to so many influencers and are seen over and over on instagram until I cannot stand them anymore. I also prefer bags that are iconic as opposed to the new trendy bags
I'm being careful with Dior atm because they keep changing their logo typography. If you buy a £1500+ bag and then they change the typography again, you're left with a bag that doesn't age well. This is why I like Saint laurent because their logo on the bags is still YSL.

It's crazy that we now think having a strap is a pro and not just expected! I have a guitar strap, and I suspect many people will be excited to get one or make additional use of the one they have. I'm just not wild about the Bobby. I would rather put the money towards the Celine classic in box leather, maybe preloved. Yes, it's casual but can we really use it like a "casual" bag? Box leather cannot handle getting caught in the rain. It will get scratched and creased. The glazing is more susceptible to cracking along the top. Don't get me wrong, I love box calfskin - but it would wear very quickly if actually treated like a casual bag, and I would like to think I treat all of my items nicely.

It's absolutely gorgeous, but at that pricepoint, the design needs to be iconic for me. However, I love this style of bag. There are a couple from DeMellier London that look similar at a fraction of the Bobby price. DeMellier's Vancouver and Venice styles come to mind.
So many labels are releasing mini messenger bags this year like this: Louis Vuitton pont 9, YSL solferino, Celine triomphe & classic box bag, Chloe C and now Dior bobby bag. Maybe chains strap bags are phasing out 🤷♀️
I've never owned any Dior bags. Been trying really hard to like at least like one of their bags, but I'm still not convinced with the Bobby. ☹️ Which is such a shame cos I've heard so many good things about their outstanding customer service and workmanship!
I got the medium with the canvas recently and I LOVE IT!! I have been holding off on the Lady Dior because I wanted something more practical and versatile - I can dress it up or down. A big thumbs up for me!
I have the grained calfskin bobby and it's so versatile. I wear it all the time and the shape remains it's so well made. No marks, no stretch marks and Im pretty rough with my bags.

I don’t think this bag is worth the price. It’s nothing special. If I had to choose something along this line I would probably go for a CELINE trotteur... great deals on the pre loved market.

It's a very chic bag, but it's not very new in case of style. The price point is much to high for all of the sizes, but espicially for the small size. In my opinion it's a everyday style, easy to wear and to combine. But not special in case of design.

I have the Hana from See by Chloe which is a similiar style, even more affordable than the Marcie and in my opinion is way cuter, and can strongly recommend. :)
Really appreciate your informative review. I was a bit put off the Bobby originally by so many influencers appearing to have been #gifted one, but it’s really grown on me and I am tempted to treat myself to one - the oblique jacquard is my favourite!! Glad you also mentioned that it’s light weight, I have made the mistake of buying bags in the past which have literally been a pain in the neck and rendered themselves unusable due to being so heavy (yes, Smythson and Mulberry, I am looking at you!!).

Great review, I am not able to see it in person myself and have been really in two minds about it for the same reasons you are. It is a timeless style but there’s nothing exciting about it either however I feel like it would really work well into my wardrobe in the Camel or White as I wear a lot, A LOT 😂 of Zimmermann and I feel it would go well with that style.

I agree that this could be a timeless bag, the silhouette is lovely for a classic. The CD logo is also very well suited to this style. I wish the strap fastenings to the bag were more delicate.

Not the first. Dior did this with the saddle and the 30 Montaigne. This turns me off from its allure to purchase.

I was a bit put off the Bobby originally by so many influencers appearing to have been #gifted one, but it’s really grown on me and I am tempted to treat myself to one - the oblique jacquard is my favourite!! Glad you also mentioned that it’s light weight, I have made the mistake of buying bags in the past which have literally been a pain in the neck and rendered themselves unusable due to being so heavy (yes, Smythson and Mulberry, I am looking at you!!).

Great review, I am not able to see it in person myself and have been really in two minds about it for the same reasons you are. It is a timeless style but there’s nothing exciting about it either however I feel like it would really work well into my wardrobe in the Camel or White as I wear a lot, A LOT 😂 of Zimmermann and I feel it would go well with that style.
