    Veilguard was made by devs who clearly disliked the Dragon Age setting and wanted to sand off all the bits they found immature or offensive. Gore? Nudity? Moral ambiguity? All that shit had to go. In their place, we got therapy sessions and lectures about social issues.

    Dragon age veilguard definitely looks and feels like a far cry from dragon age origins. I’m happy some people feel like their money was well spent. Unfortunately a lot of other fans don’t feel the same way. Dragon age use to unite us, now it’s just another thing in this world that divides us.

    VG made a good first impression, it was pretty and ran well, I still kind of liked it about 20 hours in. I then started to feel my opinion change. There is no role playing Rook, the combat got boring, then the final straw was the devs mooting everything done in the first three games by destroying the south in a letter, talk about a slap in the face of player agency. For me the series ended with the cliffhanger in Trespasser, I'll headcanon the rest based on the lore reveals. At this point Bioware will have to prove that they can make a good game before I'll consider them, if they last long enough for the next ME I'll be waiting for the truth, I'll never preorder again.

    i miss how things were 10 years ago plus. Rocksteady, Bioware, Ubisoft. They're all hollow shells of what they once were. The important people have left and created new studios, and new blood like Larian have taken over the vacuum that traditional RPGs had left, and improved on the formula somewhat.

    Dragon age is my favorite game series and my first rpg I ever played. I probably do a playthrough of the series (1-3) at least once a year.
    I, like an idiot, preordered veilguard because I thought that no matter how meh the game was I would still love it because it would still be dragon age and what I love about the games were the complexity and nuance of the thedas itself. I thought they might mess up lots of other stuff, but that thedas would still be thedas.
    Unfortunately I was wrong. It no longer felt like dragon age. Thedas wasn’t thedas anymore. The one thing I thought BioWare couldn’t mess up, the world, they managed to massacre.
    I forced myself to finish dav even though after about 20 hours I was tired and it was a slog, but I really wish I hadn’t. My advice for anyone currently struggling through it, just put the game down. The ending isn’t worth it and the game itself has tainted the other games in the series for me.
    I wish i had never touched veilguard. Like you said, I think inquisition is going to have to be my last dragon age game.

    • @TKGames54
      @TKGames54  3 дня назад +2

      I think if they had left the lore alone, and made the world feel like it was apart of the established universe it wouldn't be so bad, even if the writing wasn't as good or the gameplay just boring. But to butcher characters like isabella or ruin the elven lore and going so far as to disprove the makers existence its just horrendous.

    • @sarawawa8984
      @sarawawa8984 3 дня назад

      @ yeah the lore and sanitizing of thedas are probably my biggest issues, and these are the things that have tainted my view of the previous games. Like you said, if they left the lore alone and didn’t mess with pre-existing worldbuilding I would be able to forgive the lackluster writing.
      I also remember seeing a post by one of the writers a while ago about how they weren’t ever going to prove or disprove the maker, and how it’s important to maintain some mystery. But in veilguard they threw all that out the window I guess

    1) Found and bought DAO (Ultimate Ed) at a discount bin. Loved the game!
    2) Bought DA2 at full price when it first came out, as well as its DLCs. Was a little disappointed, but still liked the game.
    3) Waited for DAI to go on discount before buying it. Hated the Frostbite game engine. Game no longer felt like a dark medieval RPG fantasy game. Instead, it felt like a FPS game.
    4) Boycotting DAV. I will not go near that game, even with a Ten Foot Pole!

      Gamble was only referencing the art style, not the other elements of the game (story, characters, dialog, RPG elements, etc.). So his "it will be the same" was a very restricted statement and did not cover the things about Veilguard which truly sunk it.

      @Arven8 День назад +1

      Yeah, but he was only talking about the visual style remaining realistic, not being disney-fied. He wasn't talking about the story, writing, characters, RPG elements, or woke intrusions - and those were the big problems with Veilguard. Whether those elements will be good in the next Mass Effect, who knows. We do know that many of Veilguard's staff have moved over to work on the next Mass Effect - which doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

    I wanted Veilguard to be good game but after the reviews I think I'm not looking forward to new Mass Effect. I rather want to see what Drew Karpyshyn have done with Exodus game. I'm replaying Mass Effect 1-3 right now and man the dialogue just feels much thicker compared to Mass Effect: Andromeda. (forced myself to play it)
    or is it just nostalgia that the writing is better? I don't know but atleast I feel it that it's somehow richer it just has more meat. but ofcourse game is more than just the writing department. just listen that Mars track from Mass Effect soundtrack and I want to replay that mission. I guess Mac Walter is also one of the writers who did good stuff. like the Lair of the Shadow Broker dlc chasing Tela Vasir and then the shadow broker spaceship visuals etc. visuals in ME1 is still impressing like in Ilos mission.
    the ending was better though in Andromeda. :D but man it was a chore get there I don't recommend to play it. the ending was not that fancy

    • @TKGames54
      @TKGames54  3 дня назад +1

      I don't think it's nostalgia at all, the characters are just themselves in the OT in my opinion, Mordin doesn't offer to cook to get you to like him he tells you what he did to the krogan and that he's not ashamed of it, which instantly makes him 3 dimensional and gives him room to grow in me3

    For me, the game is fine. It has its moments where you can see great ideas shining forth. But those moments are too far in between and damn near the end. The writing is horrible though. I will stand by that until I die.
    4/10, might return it to if they decide to increase how many Rooks I can make. Three Rooks per account? Fucking joke considering how many possible timelines one could make with just the last three games.

    You say that the original creators are gone and yet Veilguard’s lead writer has worked on most every Dragon Age and Mass Effect, except DA2 and Andromeda, along with their DLC and tie-ins, atop being the lead writer for Solas, Cole and Trespasser back with Inquisition.
    Meanwhile Veilguard’s main choices are actually meaningful for once, as there’s no third optimal choice you can unlock through side quests, unlike previous BioWare games that let you completionist your way out of their A vs B conflicts entirely.
    I have around 150 hours in the game now, 94 hours of which were spent learning the game and collecting everything and it honestly gets better after Act 1, with the concluding Act 3 being on par with BioWare’s past.
    And sure, you can’t be evil, you can’t be in 99.9% of other games either. I’d still argue there’s more variety/replayability with Rook than with Hawke, evil choices aside and let’s be honest, Varric never would’ve chosen someone with the potential for evil as his second in command on a world saving mission.

    • @BrotherMag

      @TKGames54  4 дня назад +5

      I'm glad you're enjoying it, but it's just too far removed from what dragon age is for me. David gaider was the lead writer and created the world and it's characters yet he's not worked on this and you can tell. They have ruined the lore, stuff it full of modern day language, , butchered the returning characters and made a world where everything is just floating and covered in blisters. But 150 hours is impressive I am genuinely happy you're enjoying it the developers have worked hard on it... it's just not for me.

      @@TKGames54 yet it was David who picked this successor and so it’s clear you don’t agree with all his choices. I’ve been disagreeing with some of Gaider’s choices since way back when he did the novelisation of BioWare’s Baldur’s Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal.
      And language use will always be a problem, as you can just as easily confuse your audience by using made up words or else outdated meanings that require them to stop and look things up. I assume the word you’re hinting at is ‘non-binary’ considering you have Taash front and centre of your thumbnail, but even that word is now over 80 years old, so when does a word stop being considered modern?
