i actually ate here and its known best for its Tofu banquet in winter. A 7 course meal all with tofu as the main ingredient. Just saying, i've never liked tofu before but just sitting next to the river, watching the snow fall was absolutely breathtaking - made the tofu taste even more divine
Futcho Bishh usually at least with this channel, sometimes they may not intend for it to be that way but the people they interview will have an agenda when they speak. Like that one motorcycle rider lady, she was kinda sexist the way she spoke
I've visited this place and I will say, it truly feels like a whole different world. Just walking to this restaurant and the whole experience makes you feel like you've time traveled into the past. The scenery is beautiful and peaceful, the food is exquisite, and the entertainment is one of a kind. I recommend everyone to visit this place. I had a talk with Kobayashi-San while I visited and learning about her story was really nice as well.
I feel like the point of view of the food blogger is completely irrelevant to this story. You could erase her from the piece and the video would still be about Japan and the culture. Presenting the blogger as the center piece in the beginning takes away from the actual subject
Uniden ana is "All Nippon Airways" which is Japan's airline so I guess she is a character to like convince you that even you could go there (and fly ana)
It could have easily, and much more effectively, been narrated by the Japanese proprietress, with subtitles. The blogger was extremely irrelevant, in my opinion.
Tick-Tack girl I was in Japan but I never heard of thus place but I would recomend it to you but go in the peaceful parts and the gardens of peace.go there it is fun.and nice.
I agree such a feeling of calm and peacefulness is so foreign to me that I haven't felt like this since the day I had my first companion by my side until he past away Friends to the end I would always say I still remember her smile till this day
Visited this restaurant a few months ago. I'd been to Arashiyama before, and it truly is a peaceful place, with the river and mountains there that somehow make you feel calm. The food was great, and not expensive at all. Only double digits for the full course we chose. Very recommended! They were the nicest women there as well.
I honestly think the perspective from the vlogger's point of view, the short film style shooting and cartooning takes a lot away from this place. The food and the environment speak for themselves. Instead of the quality ingredients letting their flavours shine, they've been doused in too many sauces and dressings. Imagine this same video without the cartoons and narration.
I agree, they do so well with the way they make their other videos, this definitely takes away from it, it was distracting, they should show the place for what it is, and then we can go there, and have our own kind of experience
I think they definitely should lose the cartoons. The narration doesn't bother me as much, but it could be sparser. Longer intervals with soft music only would enhance the images and even what little narration remained.
I disagree. I think the fvlogger and the animation was great and added a whimsical touch accenting the owner's hobby of calligraphy. It made me want to go there when I go to Japan in the future.
Roxanne Haveman You except one part of the culture you need to accept all of it. Not pick and choose just because something you don't like feels out of place. There's many Japanese that would take offense to your comments. So next time be a bit more respectful of those who have a different approach, just saying. :/
I tried to find the music for this. All I could track down was the composer's name, Richard J. Birkin. He composed it specifically for this short, but it doesn't look like it's for sale on any albums. I do greatly appreciate it though, every time I watch this short again and again.
Thank you so much Great Big Story and CNN for this incredible adventure in Japan! I feel super lucky and grateful to have been part of this magical and unforgettable experience. Andrea
This is the first video I've seen on this channel, and I'm very impressed. This location was beautiful and this video was so well done. It was a relaxing experience to watch.
We went there today at about 6:30 and we only saw about 50 other people on the entire trek and plenty of photo/video opportunities with noone in them...
Just got into Great Big Story, and this is my first comment on this channel. But I just wanted to say you guys do incredible, wonderful work! Keep it up, you guys! The videos always make me smile and, amazingly, even the comments on this channel make me smile!
things like this make me cry because it's so beautiful. what a breathtaking place. I think every human should have this in their everyday life. how can anyone be angry and hate life living this way....
It’s amazing how some eh ok more than most things we may get to see if we are luck are more felt from the heart than so pure and satisfying to the soul just illuminating the mind with a calming embrace...absolutely fabulous Tu Sha 🦋❣️💮
My neighbor lives in Japan- he goes there once a year for 3 months straight for summer break, he sends me pictures of the sun set and of the cultures....it's amazing!
Aside from her food blogging lifestyle, which is as firstworld privileged as you get, I do appreciate her understanding of what makes Japan so special, in harmony with modernity, culture, and spirituality.
This channel is so good , it contains many knowledge such as food, culture, wildlife and others ! Every kids in this world should watch every video in this channel to improve their knowledge I love this channel very much !
Kobayashi-san seems like such an amazing woman. I'd love to visit here, I feel like I could just forget everything and just be surrounded by peace and happiness.
We've just started doing mainly UK natural sound and sight video walks and it's lovely to find someone doing a similar thing in parts of the world we may never get to visit. I've subscribed and very much look forward to seeing more.
If I walked to that restaurant, I think I'd cry the whole way from how beautiful the path is and how serene I'd feel. The walk there would be enough for me.
what a great channel urs is.....great angles....perfect conveying techniques....great narration.....perfect story selection....... hats off to the people behind this hardwork.... subscribed after watching first video....
Could have done without the animations. Not everything Japanese is a Miyazaki film. Imagine if everything American were labeled with Teen Titans Go or Rick and Morty or Mickey Mouse. By making this have just one interpretation they have diminished traditional Japanese culture to one person's artistic contribution. The animations detracted from the natural beauty of the place and made the video less traditionally Japanese. I agree with other commentators and felt the narration was intrusive as well. The style of this channel is traditionally to not show the narrators in the videos and to have them interact with the subjects of their videos to get them to speak about length about their special attributes.
Gabriel Wang Not every one do things like you. Being ignorant is so terrible. To think, that someone doing something as mundane as holding a utensil triggers you, is really sad.
I am getting old now and the dreams of my life are becoming compressed. Before I pass from this plane of existence, I will visit and experience that which is Japan. And now I have found the focal point of my journey. I absolutely must experience this place. My soul will not rest until I do.
Food looks amazing and all, but all the mumbo-jumbo about "divine spirits and ions" is simply modern day snake oil. It is clear this woman (or whoever did the English translation) doesn't have the slightest idea of what an ion is, and is using it as vague buzzword to insert creationism mythology to describe what can easily be explained as serenity and tranquility. I love hiking and Japanese food but I might have to pass on this restaurant if I have to dine with a bunch of obnoxious Karens as they compare stinky essential oils.
I find the spirited world dancing etc a bit disturbing. While I love the japanese culture and some of the food and artistry, the spirited themes are very unsettling and dark. A nice restaurant but what was on the menu? Also if this place is so isolated, how do people find it? A bit strange. Some travelers may be too old to walk a distance to eat and watch the elderly dance and chant.
The whole reason for the location is the spirit aspect. Shinto beliefs focus on how there is a spirit within everything, within nature, etc. That's why there were the animations that there were. You could perhaps appreciate it more if you did some reading on Shinto beliefs. I certainly enjoyed the video knowing the belief system behind the representations and the reason the location of the restaurant is so special.
There are alot of beautiful remote olaces in asia not just japan. Looking at the video you can feel how special this restaurant is. Thank you for sharring.
Why do I keep watching stuff that makes me want to go to Japan?

PicuPiee yes, if the cattle have been fed fish meal as a protein supplement, beef can taste fishy!
It is a very sad thing!!
i actually ate here and its known best for its Tofu banquet in winter. A 7 course meal all with tofu as the main ingredient. Just saying, i've never liked tofu before but just sitting next to the river, watching the snow fall was absolutely breathtaking - made the tofu taste even more divine
I'd like to salute this channel for being 1 of maybe 5 on RUclips I can comment on without it somehow turning into an argument about race or politics
Futcho Bishh usually at least with this channel, sometimes they may not intend for it to be that way but the people they interview will have an agenda when they speak. Like that one motorcycle rider lady, she was kinda sexist the way she spoke
Yes please do share
Futcho Bishh why do i get a feeling that you want it somehow turn into an argument about race or politics
You must be extremely hostile if you have that much trouble
Futcho Bishh Fucking Liberal
"some secrets ill always keep"...except from the internet of course
I've been laughing for the past 5 minutes. Thanks XD

Uniden i dont know. it explains her journey and why she was there. a unique experience for her that she wanted to share 😊
Uniden ana is "All Nippon Airways" which is Japan's airline so I guess she is a character to like convince you that even you could go there (and fly ana)
Kenzo Spaulding
completely agree
Great eye candy though.
i really wish there was less of the blogger here, and more about the exquisite setting, the food, and the calligraphy. 😔
nothing
Why? She's the narrator. You wouldn't be able to understand any of what's going on in the video without her.
It could have easily, and much more effectively, been narrated by the Japanese proprietress, with subtitles. The blogger was extremely irrelevant, in my opinion.
nothing
Well I'm pretty sure she was the one who made the trip.
And cut the sex eye-candy from the wooo-spiritual eye-candy? I'm more than happy about the combo.
nothing maybe they figured "no one will watch a video in ALL subtitles with the only woman being old."
Shows what they know.
l think i am going to to put this place on my bucket list. The video itself made me feel so calming.
Tick-Tack girl I was in Japan but I never heard of thus place but I would recomend it to you but go in the peaceful parts and the gardens of peace.go there it is fun.and nice.
Tick-Tack girl me too!

This is how I felt. The cartoons completely took me out and distracted me from the story being told.

I've been watching this channel everyday for a week now. the quality is absolutely incredible!
I'd love to go there someday. the hike looks lovely
Thank you @Great Big Story for all the beautiful videos. My day begins and ends with your channel. I find it therapeutic.
I'm Japanese, living in the US, these videos make me miss my homeland so much which I haven't returned to in years
Go home please

Was the food good?
Yes I forget all about porn
This is the first video I've seen on this channel, and I'm very impressed. This location was beautiful and this video was so well done. It was a relaxing experience to watch.
Did she go to the red shrine arch at 5am? There's absolutely no way that place is not crowded with tourists and locals alike.
There's no way almost everywhere there isn't crowded. As this was sponsored by ANA though; they probably cordoned off parts of the areas briefly.
We went there today at about 6:30 and we only saw about 50 other people on the entire trek and plenty of photo/video opportunities with noone in them...
This is my new favorite channel and I can't stop watching videos from here. They deserve way more subs
The big question is... How much is that dinner cost??
Just got into Great Big Story, and this is my first comment on this channel. But I just wanted to say you guys do incredible, wonderful work! Keep it up, you guys! The videos always make me smile and, amazingly, even the comments on this channel make me smile!
this is so fuckin magical
things like this make me cry because it's so beautiful. what a breathtaking place. I think every human should have this in their everyday life. how can anyone be angry and hate life living this way....

I FUCKIN LOVE THIS CHANNEL OMG
You are doing a great work by documenting unique things... Thank you for the visual pleasure.
This reminds me of Spirited Away
The wonderful spirit animations totally brought me back to Spirited Away. What a fascinating place.
Aside from her food blogging lifestyle, which is as firstworld privileged as you get, I do appreciate her understanding of what makes Japan so special, in harmony with modernity, culture, and spirituality.
what are you on about?
Japan is an incomparable land full of mystery, nature, culture, magic, tradition. Wish I was born there.
I love Japan.
This actually brought me to tears and I love that.
How do they get deliveries????
mike c not only did I wonder that but I also am wondering if this place is so secluded how do they get regular money?
Great point

They're telekinetically floated there.
mike c they might have a middle man that only kobayashi san knows the location of
Wao its like a spiritual journey, respect for japan from India for their culture and traditions.

My dress is from Self-Portrait :)
Kobayashi-san seems like such an amazing woman. I'd love to visit here, I feel like I could just forget everything and just be surrounded by peace and happiness.

YES
how is she holding them wrong though
We've just started doing mainly UK natural sound and sight video walks and it's lovely to find someone doing a similar thing in parts of the world we may never get to visit. I've subscribed and very much look forward to seeing more.
Can anyone identify the background music used in this clip?
Eliquinox River no
Pablo Bustamante this is not the backround music
If I walked to that restaurant, I think I'd cry the whole way from how beautiful the path is and how serene I'd feel. The walk there would be enough for me.
A real studio ghibli tale
Stunning editing, I got chills.
I dont want Sadako coming while I am enjoying my meal..
what a great channel urs is.....great angles....perfect conveying techniques....great narration.....perfect story selection....... hats off to the people behind this hardwork.... subscribed after watching first video....

2:30 what tf, who holds their chopsticks like that?
As soon as i saw it.. it started bothering me... My eyes twitched..
Gabriel Wang Not every one do things like you. Being ignorant is so terrible. To think, that someone doing something as mundane as holding a utensil triggers you, is really sad.
I never said it "triggered" me I just wanted to point something out that was in the video that stood out to me
It isn't being ignorant, we all have some form of OCD on things. Sorry if my OCD offended anyone.
Gabriel Wang me
I am getting old now and the dreams of my life are becoming compressed. Before I pass from this plane of existence, I will visit and experience that which is Japan. And now I have found the focal point of my journey. I absolutely must experience this place. My soul will not rest until I do.
Seriously. This is not Princess Fucking Mononoke. Stop adding unnecessary animations.
Kyoto's ethereal as is.
Ive been on a GBS video spree, and I just found out about this channel and already subbed.
FORGET the RESTAURANT.... I just want to camp out in that bamboo forest....
This video is extremely beautiful, from the way that was shot to the way that was edited^^

This is such a beautiful video. I really felt the energy of the place, you captured it so well.
Yeah, Japan is great, but I love this cute italian women :D
Mena Suvari that isnt in a gay way right?
original commenter is probably one of those guys who use girls' pics for some reason lmao
+Atsu Kana
What if it is?
Oh no, one of the few channels where race, religion and feminism aren't being screamed about and a gay Caitlyn Jenner row is brewing.
;)
shes not italian. shes greek.
There are alot of beautiful remote olaces in asia not just japan. Looking at the video you can feel how special this restaurant is. Thank you for sharring.
the owners eyes are pure black
Why doesn't this channel have over a million subs, that just boggles my mind.

Cringy production
Japan is so beautiful, I think I'm just gonna go back there and live there.
This is the happiest youtube channel :)

This channel promotes these hidden and beautiful places to be discovered and explored .😊😊😊 nice video .
I love the legendary characters... I wonder who animated that, and if Great Big Story has ever made other videos with "two worlds" such as this?
This is beautiful, truly a piece of art.
Such a beautiful video!!! Love the creatures in the video.
01:07 *Absolutely Stunning* Thank you for sharing this with us.
I will visit Japan once for sure,,, always in awe of this place
Love this channel, I hope y'all get the recognition you deserve!
