- Oh hey guess who is back talking about WWE games again. We are now on to WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008. SVR 2008 is a game that was released back in November of 2007 featuring stars like John Cena, Undertaker, CM Punk etc. Out on the PS3 and XBOX 360 in FULL HD. It was highly anticipated for various reasons. To me though I just wanted Jeff Hardy, but how would the game follow up SVR 2007 such a beloved game? Was it even possible? Well the game came out to mixed reviews, but die-hard fans were not fans. However, time has passed and its 2020 and 12 years later, how does this game hold up? It can’t be THAT bad right? Let’s take a look.

I personally loved this game as a kid because it is so nostalgic of how simple life was then. But as an adult I love this game for it’s gameplay. I love the entrances, the weapon wheel, the abilities and fighting styles, going into the crowd with weapons. But the thing that hooked me like no other… the SOUNDTRACK! I loved it even as a kid and still do to this day. It’s hard to listen to because it makes me miss those times, but man is it a great choice of music!
I’m 16 and just started played svr 2008 and when I tell you this is exactly how I feel but bro the soundtrack is absolutely amazing 10/10 makes me feel nistolgic 😭🔥

2008 was amazing. aside from the repeating cut scenes, it was cool they added injuries in and realism on trying to keep from being injured. I remember playing as edge, winning the wwe title at vengeance and holding it all the way until wrestlemania before i finally lost but only because i didnt focus much on avoiding injury by resting at all so by the time wrestlemania came around, I was defending the wwe title against a fresh 100 percent batista in a hell in a cell match while i had every part of my body red. I fought my hardest but by the end Batista ran right through me. Ended with losing the wwe title sadly but still was a hell of a title run for me.
If you can’t cook a 5 star meal before undertaker could get in the ring then it’s not a real undertaker entrance

Was my first Wrestling game as i was an 2002 baby i was a late bloomer with SvR series then i caught up. '08 seemed great to me as a kid but as a 17yr old now with better understanding and judgment of games going back to this game its not as good as its predecessors
This lowkey was my favorite SvR, even though I played 2010-2013 religiously, 08 had something different about it. Everyone I knew liked 07 or 06 but I loved 08

Its the gm mode and how the characters are displayed in it. 06 and 07 have better match types and better rosters but in gm mode its just their names besides in 08 where their whole body is displayed it just feels better

This game is honestly underrated, what they were going for was ahead of its time, attempting to add realism for ease of access and accuracy, while also adding classic arcade elements to make the game unique and interesting.
And honestly, i think 24/7 mode had so much potential, it just needed a lot more work put into it. If they did, this game could very well be up there with the greats.

Yeah, they kind of did the same thing now with the current AEW game, with managing days off to avoid fatigue and injury. So definitely ahead of its time.

Technically. They did need updates. But since this game was also on ps2, it got no updates. Like he mentioned the Raw set changed right after d game launched. Glitches could have also used some patches too on older games.

I was 10 when I played this. It was my first wrestling game and I absolutely loved it. 24/7 was my favorite when I was little, I played it for years with multiple characters

The weird thing about the Benoit thing is that despite removing him from this game, he’s still the icon for the high flyer ability. It’s a silhouette of him doing the diving headbutt.

Ricardo Santiago I already know Benoit was removed because of his final days. I don’t know how that makes him hitler. Yes, he has killed innocent people but both are very different, especially since Hitler did more than just “murder”. WWE aren’t erasing him from history or acting like he doesn’t exist. They just don’t want to promote him or make any money off of him after what he did. They’ll mention him when they absolutely have to.

Kadeemspade I already know what he did. That’s something that nobody should forgive or forget. I don’t know what happened with him. One of the worst things about the whole thing is that no matter how times we could try to figure out why those things happened, we will never really understand it or know what happened. Of course, what we are left with is that he killed them. That being said, I still don’t think he should be forgotten either. I think he’s too important as both a wrestler and what he did in his final days but I don’t think he should be in the hall of fame or anything. Still, I don’t blame them for that decision. If Benoit was really that “good, honorable, and respectable” guy who loved the business and a supposed “family man”, if that man ever existed, he’d be fine with WWE’s decision.
He didn’t give his son animal growth. That was actually a mistake. The needle marks or his son having “fragile x syndrome” was proven false by his sister in law on Jericho’s podcast. He did drug his son before killing him though. For whatever reason he may have had as to why he’d kill him, he tried to kill him in a way where he wouldn’t feel it and that was to drug him with Xanax. He didn’t kill him with the crossface either. It also seems like he regretted killing him since there’s proof suggesting that he tried to bring him back. Not saying that’s an excuse or makes what he did any better. I wouldn’t say his son’s death was “brutal”. How he killed his wife was brutal though.
I hope you respect my opinions on Chris Benoit since it’s difficult to talk about him without things getting too heated. I completely understand the “two sides” when it comes to what people think about him.

I just started watching WWE (Friday Night Smackdown) for the first time in 2007 after my dad gave me a newspaper advertising WrestleMania 23 in Detroit. SvR 08 came out and I got it on the PSP, and I played that game almost every day. This was a very nostalgic video.

I think one of the things that helped make the THQ games better than the 2k ones was the current rosters at the time. Like when I think about buying the new ones I only look at the Legends in the game. The guys working today just don’t have whatever it was that the guys back then had

This is honestly my favorite wrestling game of all time. People get too caught up in the lack of features which is understandable ... but from a pure gameplay engine perspective svr 2008 tops every svr .... plus it was Jeff Hardy’s first appearance since SYM !
This game was amazing and to me the last good one in the SvR series. I get it downsized the roster and took away some features but it was still a good game nonetheless I need to get this game again.
It's too bad that I played this game on the wrong system. Stay away from the Wii version as humanly possible!

My favorite wrestling game of all time right here! The soundtrack, the game play, the roster (while lacking in many) still had all of the superstars I actually wanted in a game like MVP, Jeff Hardy, Sandman, Cryme Tyme ( I was a fan of them), the second I hear "you wouldn't know" I instantly get taken back to the hundreds of hours I spend making CAWs and scouring the CAW.WS website, The CAW system was so good in this game to me it made up for the lack of superstars cause I just ended up making them all anyways and being able to do sound files for entrance music made it feel like they were never omitted anyways. Take me back man😭

I’m happy you talked about how lazy the 24/7 mode was. I seen the lifting weights cutscene, the high fiving and divas scene about 100 times each. This game had so much potential since it followed SVR06 and SVR07 and it was so disappointing.

I started watching wrestling in late 07 after Survivor Series. It was the night Y2J returned. He immediately became my favorite and when my friends birthday sleepover happened I remember being so pissed Chris Jericho wasn't in it. But the Legends definitely make this game shine over the 2009 edition.

I’ll never forget the story modes in 2009 they were so much fun. Especially the cm punk and the Batista and Rey mysterious one. I used to play on the wii and you swung the remote and Numb chucks to fight it was so cool

Yo I really liked this game. 2007 was my favorite year of wwe. WrestleMania 23 was my first and favorite wrestlemania of all time. The soundtrack was awesome as hell, Jeff hardy was back, etc. My only minor complaint of this game was the removal of Chris Benoit. I know why he was removed but I really miss him.

The Submission one was OP too. You automatically got out of submissions (don’t remember if it was lack of damage or having your ability stored) you would heal during submissions. And if the submission targeted a part that was even just yellow they’d often tap if you used the ability.

I played the hell outta this game years after it came out. One of my favorite games mainly because it took like 5 mins to finish a match compared to now where it take 30 seconds if it's completely one sided.

Still to this day I’m wondering why some wrestlers that were active on the roster were not in the game like Paul London and Brian Kendrick
I think it was due to limited roster space (I would have preferred for them to just avoid using legends personally, especially since the 24/7 Mode was so repetitive due to its habit of putting you against the same 1 or 2 people for weeks on end). As far as WrestlingGIF's comment about the midcard being weak, I'd say that it was more of a case of the WWE just failing to book many of them to look strong.

The presentation was really slick on this game, The new models looked amazing and yeah you're right - They absolutely nailed the entrances. I remember being so excited for Jeff Hardy alone but the revamped weapons & dives breathed a bit of new life into the game that had started getting stale after '06.
This was my first Wwe SvR game I played as a child, so it holds a place in my heart.
the weapons and interaction editions for outside the ring are really what i missed the most out of all these games.
like, in one of the 2k games, creating your own arena and finishers was what i always wanted, but i wish they kept all the weapon stuff and crowd interaction they had in this game.

I was born in 1994. I got into wrestling in 2001. I was there for all of the best wrestling games. Back when we were kids my brother and I would have all the other neighbor kids over during the summer and we would hook the tv and PlayStation up in our garage. Nothing beat running those Armageddon Hell in a Cell matches! I’ll never forget those days.
I remember being 9 years old and seeing it on commercials and posters all over gamestop... don’t ask me what I ate yesterday though!

@@XQueen_Lunaa The only idiots I see are you fanboys who are kissing THQ's ass. How you all are bitching about 2K is exactly how we felt about THQ during the PS3/360 era of WWE games. SVR2007 doesn't hold up, is glitchy as fuck, and is a massive step down from SVR2006. SVR2011 was fucking terrible. It had some good elements but THQ/Yukes moronic decisions dragged that game down ALOT whether it was removing moves, the movesets being half assed, the AI was the drizzling shits, and only getting one running strike as opposed to two. WWE'13 was okay at best but I didn't care for the faster gameplay that was in WWE'12 to 2K14.
This was the first game I ever got the platinum trophy in. So many hours of my childhood were poured into this game
I really tried to like this game, but it turned out to be the last wrestling game I ever bought. You mentioned that SVR07 was the end of an era for you b/c you were growing up. Well, a ton of gamers and wrestling fans during that era were college aged, and we pretty much felt the same way. The quality just declined.
This was the last wrestling game I played too until 2k16 was free on Xbox with Gold. Fell off with wrestling completely around that time and it seems the games did as well.
The ratings was so messed up in 08 gm mode I literally had to boost all my guys to 90+ popularity just to have a chance at winning
Truth to that dawg. You could put on 4 5 star matches and get a show rating of a 4, and the other shows could have 3 vacated matches, a 2 star match and a 1 Star match and they be out here getting a show rating of a 5.

This was one of the first games I played online and definitely the FIRST wrestling game I played online. Loved when I used to DOMINATE with Lashley online. Even made a friend online that I chatted with on MSN messenger...yeah we're old folks.
My favorite part is the commentary. Mainly for when you taunt, steal finishers, & make your opponent bleed lol.

This game was the last good SvR game (besides 2011) to me. I don’t understand why this game gets so much hate it was a really fun game sure it’s roster isn’t great like old games but this game was really fun I need to get this game again.

The change in the submission system made submissions more diffcult plus the number of submissions availible was greatly decreased compared to 2007 and 2006 . the fighting styles made movesets limited .GM mode lasts one year then restarts afresh without you carrying over stats

Maybe Because they weren't WWE Superstars before the game came out.

All the SVR games just blend together in my memory. I can't tell which is which. I can't describe each of the games individually. They're all one big blur.
The hardcore styles ability was to heal you actually
Also the 24/7 mode you couldn't play ECW characters and I believe ECW had a story before Benoit, RVD and kurt angle left
Yeah there was a story line it was a it let up to he survivor series a triple threat winner take all match for World heavyweight WWE ECW and you can get to ECW just have to beat the Champ in the match depending on what brand Champon you beating

BROOO, this was my first game when I started watching wwe in 2008. Since sandman wasn’t a wrestler anymore in 08 I didn’t know who he was yet. So when he came out me and my nephew used to think he was pouring actual sand into his mouth. That’s what it looked like. We were like wtf, this man is spitting sand 😂
Feed was my favorite song from this game. Sevendust was the band that showed young me that I wasn't the only black kid that liked hard rock and metal.
SVR 06 and 07 were so fun. Some of my most fun gaming experiences to date.
This game is what got me into watching WWE when I was a kid! I actually played the demo which motivated me to get the game and made me choose Mysterio as my favorite wrestler for years! I freaking loved the crowd interactions and extreme rules, TLC, and hell in a cell matches! And yes, I did play online. People kept assigning this weird headbutt move to the strike button, which would stun opponents and prevent them from being able to attack or reverse. Such a broken move that I also used! Lol
To this day, this is still my favorite svr.
Side note: I also played it on the Wii! Very weird but still fun experience with broken motion controls! SvR 09 Wii was definitely the biggest improvement of the platforms that, unlike 08 Wii, actually had online!
This was the first SVR game I played, so it holds the ultimate place in my heart.

This is where wrestling games peaked....went to town on this and SVR 07' during the height of lockdown, hadn't played either probably since they'd come out. Gigantic nostalgia kick - got so immersed in season and GM modes, scooped up all the trophies, achievements, unlocked all the legendary wrestlers, made sick ass CAWs...the 2K games in their current form will never capture any of that

svr 2008 was the wrestling game that got me into wrestling i mean i played raw one and 2 but svr 2008 made me fall in love with not just wrestling game but wrestling in general so this game will always hold a place as the best wwe game ever in my heart and when i heard people dislike this game i was like :why tho: aiyyo shout out to nonpoint they were in like all svr games and i will admit the 2/47 mode is repitive as fuck but i beat it staying just on smackdown because i couldnt be mean to teddy long lol
The SVR 08 24/7 mode is basically your character vs the entire friggin McMahons!
I remember this was my first wwe game after I broke my left arm in school. I had to use my right hand to use the ps3 controller. This video gave me nostalgia and unlocked amazing memories. I loved this game and it introduced me into becoming a WWE fan.
Also what you said about adding those fighting styles to the characters THQ ended up doing in SvR 2009 and 2010, which was cool. You had to usually earn them during career mode by completing certain tasks with a created character or if you used an existing superstar, they would already have certain abilities, like Submission, KO, ladder match, cage match, dirty pin, etc. You could also look up online how to unlock them. It would usually entail winning that type of match once within a certain time limit or beating a certain number of other wrestlers with the same ability. So it's good you could not only unlock certain abilities, but that a lot more of them were added.
