Awesome to see the potential of the 1.8T. I have a MK7 Golf S 1.8T with the 5MT with an APR Stage 1 tune and it has been pretty fun so far. Definitely want to upsize the wheels and look into suspension mods.

Imagine if these things had the dsg auto. It could potentially have even more power. The good thing about the manual is that a 6 speed swap from a CC is possible and not too much of a headache

Cool. My GTI Clubsport is 360 hp on stock is38 & a Stage 1 tune lol. Not really planning on going Stage 2, coz i heard someone complaining on it in the long run. But ill get a downpipe & inlet pipe soon. Shod be hitting round 380 then. Already got catback, so itll be full turbo back this spring! 🙂 What exhaust on your Golf R btw?
Yes! That Clubsport is sweet. I am rocking a Remus exhaust on my Golf R.
If you don't do a stage 2 tune with a dp, you're not gonna get the most performance out of it, and u will always have a CEL.

Who tuned your car? I have an IS20 auto 1.8t golf with a Uni Stage 2, my trans is fine but occasionally will trip EPC/CEL if I stay WOT and shift under load.
What faults come up? My uni/is20 09G doesn’t haven’t any issues under WOT
Is this the 5 speed manual or 09g auto? I have the o9g auto and it gets a little finicky after 300lbs of torque. If I hammer in the wrong spot it will start going into limp mode. Been doing the same thing since I had it swapped and tuned 70k miles ago

Honestly with an R stage 1 is plenty. Unitronic stage 1 is 385 crank on 93 gas which doesn't require any bolt ons.
It is also almost triple the price of a golf

Have you done anything to it? I've heard this auto can. Weird as the mk5 and 6 o9g auto trans is notorious for not handling even 240lb torque I believe so rip

I can attest to the fun of the is38 on the 1.8t but he’s going to destroy that auto trans lol. And the 5 speed is even weaker.
I don’t know much about that transmission, but if he lowers the boost and maybe goes low torque he could keep it more reliable. Still an absolute animal.
What makes you so sure he will destroy the trans? There is very little info on the newer 09G in the Mk7. It uses a different valve body then the older ones. My car makes more power than this one on a custom flex fuel tune. I'm at 54,000 miles. I know others that have gone over 100,000 on is20
@@jtcranwell Yea. I have to agree with you. The EA888 gen3 trans are incredible. These little 1.8Ts are pretty insane. I drive a mk7 gti stock and my friend with the 1.8T 6speed auto APR stage 1 walk by me like i'm standing still lol.
I like the video but I'm pretty sure you are boosting numbers. The car weighs over 3000lbs and is likely 360 CRANK not wheel. Still impressive!
Depends on the tuner. But the numbers are around 397hp at the crank….so 360is is realistic at the wheels
