I’ve been drawing or painting trees since I was a child and never could figure out how to make them look “real”. You have made the concept clear and precise. Thank you so much for helping me to understand. What a great teacher you are.
the dr fox effect strikes again
@@DrWhomaren’t you a charmer
while most tree tutorials show how to paint a tree on a white background - this was an absolute masterclass. you factor in background, distance, size, groups, different types of trees, season, etc. I learned so much I applied this foundation to some convincing Palm trees! (I live in California)
These tutorials are so inspiring, I think I made about 10 paintings of trees in 2 weeks time. Thank you !
I have watched and tried to work with many watercolour artists but you are by far the best teacher.
I’m so glad that I found you. Wonderful teaching! Thank you.
Your videos have taught me how to look, see and think about light, shapes and colour and how to start conveying that on paper. Wherever I get to with it, I started here and I thank you for that.
I was waiting for my fish & chips order the other week & staring at a large, thick pine in the distance trying to work out what limbs facing to and away from you actually look like exactly & how you could realistically paint them. This is the only tutorial I've come across addressing this topic. I always click like & have subscribed. Please continue to teach as you normally do, Oliver, as it is highly appreciated.
I can't tell you how refreshing it is to hear someone so experienced say that they have trouble with an area, then to hear such a lovely reaction to the way that the summer trees turned out. I echo others in my gratitude for your lessons; you're a gift!
I began drawing as a child because I wanted to draw trees. I can draw trees well and to my great satisfaction but alas! I have struggled for countless years to paint trees until I feel ah yes!!! That is a beautiful tree! With these videos of yours I finally feel happy painting. I absolutely love the attention and care you give to understanding trees before even painting them! After watching these tree videos in particular and giving them a go, I am telling you I I have finally received the information I need to proceed confidently toward painting trees I like. I’m not there yet but after so many frustrating years, you have given me a most precious gift: being able to paint my favorite part of nature: trees. Thank you very very much for your approach to painting and teaching watercolors. Your paintings are beyond beautiful and take my breath away.
I hope you will continue to share your knowledge with the rest of us. I thoroughly enjoy them!
This has been the most helpful tutorial on painting trees that I've ever seen. I'm so grateful that I found your channel. New subscriber!
I like your calmness as well as your art. Your teaching style feels inclusive like I'm with you, thank you.
This is one of the BEST examples of painting trees I have yet to see…. Thank you!!!
I'm so excited about this new video and couldn't wait! Oliver .... for me there are no tutorials that are better than these and that convey such well-founded knowledge more sympathetically !!!! Thank you very much for that !!!
Your painting is mesmerising, I aspire to be as confident and competent as this! Thanks for making this work. Both the watching and the listening are instructive and I appreciate this content a lot
Thanks so much for these. Part one was amazing, learned so much. You are one of the best teachers I have came across on RUclips. Wish you all the best. Now, back to part 2.
I’ve watched many many tutorials on painting trees but you show and explain it so well Thank you so much
Hi Oliver - your videos are by far the most articulate tutorials I have seen over the past few years. Outstanding explanations of your thoughts on how to approach what it is you are focusing on and the reasoning behind the various techniques you use. Just brilliant. Thank you very much.
Agree
While addressing my paralyzing terror, of daring to draw and paint something so organic and natural as a tree, your tutorials are beautifully and unpretentiously enlightening!!
Thank you forever
I love the way you explain what works and what doesn't and why so clearly. Easily the the best watercolor tutorials I have seen. And I've watched many !
Excellent presentation. Your instructions are complete, detailed, easy to follow and concise. Very helpful; thank you.
I’m blown away, time and time again by how generous you are sharing and trying to teach us how to maybe one day be able to maybe get a glimpse of how we could maybe do a somewhat good watercolor painting as well.
And every time there is no “hello fresh” or “dollar shave club” crap, I’m relieved.
Thank you!
Oliver, thank you so much for these wonderful lessons. You are such a great teacher with all the precious detail you share. You are so generous with your knowledge and time. You provide a depth and detail that most other great teachers don’t. So much appreciated.!
Your french comments took me back several decades to my high school french classes. Although I didn't understand each word I was able to catch your meaning. Thanks for the memory trip!
This is by far one of the best tree tutorials I've seen as a student of the University of RUclips. Thank you for both articulating and showing some of these concepts. It's been so helpful.
I understand I have been with totally wrong channels to improve my skills. Your tutorial is exactly fitted for improving my watercolor landscapes and hope most of others are same. Thank you Oliver!!
Your tutorials are fabulous! I like how you show each stage of the process and the details of how to paint the trees' three dimensional aspects...excellent!
You do an outstanding job of explaining everything you do. I appreciate that sooo much. Denise
Finally! I find a watercolourist who paints real trees and explains how to do it. Thank you very much for the explanations and the photos, they will help me a lot to improve my landscape paintings.
Part 2 is as good as Part 1 excellent. Regards Peter
I love that you don't stress on specific color mixing. I like to focus on technique which is what you do and I appreciate the freedom to not feel I need to use exactly what colors you use :)]
I really enjoyed that. I keep re-watching your previous tree tutorial to hone my skills (which have improved beyond recognition) and I can see I will be studying this one just as carefully. Thank you very much.
Not only are you a wonderful artist you are a artful teacher! You have solidified my random bits and pieces of understanding into something I am so happy with! Thank you!
I think you are very good at explaining what you're doing :D Also you do mention colours when mixing! All exceptionally good, thank you!👍
I'm finding these tutorials extremely useful and as a bit of a newbie to watercolour painting, the level of detail is excellent and exactly what I need. Many thanks and keep up the good work.
I couldn't wait for you to address my personal kryptonite: The Summer Grove. I live in Northern Ontario (Canada) and I'm surrounded by wonderful woodlands, trails and streams that would be perfect for a landscape but for the fact that they are spoiled by impenetrable walls of green! Rather than deal with yet another 'greenscape', I went to sea for the summer! Thanks to your instruction, I will revisit some of my earlier seasonal failures and try again with some artistic pruning and the techniques you described so well. One item that I found extremely useful is your use of side of the rigger. I had been using a larger brush for the trunk or heavier branches, but your side-on rigger creates a much more interesting trunk shape with no need to reach for a larger round brush. Thank you for your help!
Thank god, an artist who also explains the colour mixes as he paints, something which is sadly lacking in many other tutorials. I have been an illustrator for many years and very often I get bogged down with detail, your style is naturally gifted and fresh, I do hope others try to emulate your methods. Regards!
You are such a helpful instructor because you are teaching me minimalism, simplicity, color, shape, balance, texture with color and strokes, and so much more. Your blends and restraint to capture the beauty and essence of a landscape are really well done.
You are in fact very good at these videos Oliver. They are superb. I think the conversation about colours can cause people to obsess over particular hues when in fact the important thing is the tone within the given colour. You could do this in red and blue and it would still look like a tree if the tones are right. Your videos have helped me immensely thank you very much.
What a wonderful lesson on trees! Thank you so much.
Your videos are the absolute best. Your paintings are beautiful and I love your explanations of what the paint is doing while you are painting. So very helpful. Thank you!
I am so happy to be here on a weekend and enjoying your tutorial. Blessings....
Thank you Oliver for teaching me how to paint trees. I´ve been having a big deal trying to do it, but now i learned thanks to your tutorial. By the way, the paintings that you show are awesome!
Thank you for this demonstration. Trees are just beautiful.!. I love it.❤
You are the best teacher I have ever seen,,,, please more demo ,,,
Thank you for this wonderful lesson. I struggle to paint convincing trees, and there are so many things I’ve learned from you. Watching how you hold and wield your brush is a revelation!
The 'Ben Fogle' of watercolour! Thank you for your gentle, encouraging approach.
Thank you so much, it was a real help, I do indeed get muddled by too much information when I look at trees.
Thanks again. i discovered your channel now. And I´ll follow everyday now that is hollidays.
You have even a Crawshaw walk over you. I enjoyed it very much! Thanks!
Just need a larger, whiter beard!
@@oliverpyle-ourlandscape4442 :-))) Why don't you have a go?
Bravo Oliver! Not only is your painting technique exquisite, but you are so descriptive as to how and why that I feel like I’m earning a Masters Degree in fine art! You are amazing!
Thanks for another great video. I appreciate that you explain the reasons for your choices. For example, ‘this is a warmer color because it’s the sunlight side’. That seems an obvious statement when it’s written down, but in the heat of the moment, trying to paint, sometimes the mind goes blank! I am not a stickler for exact color names because those Chan vary from brand to brand, as does the exact shade even if the same pigment is used. What helps me more is knowing if you are getting a warm or cool version of the color, so I can readily match to my palette- and I think you naturally do this.
I really like the way you paint, and i'll try to imitate you as much as I can.
Beautiful painting and your teaching techniques are wonderful thanks a lot for your running commentary it helps me to follow 🙏
I really like the way you paint trees, learnt a lot from you! Absolutely love it! I downloaded these tutorial, watched them several times.
Thanks so much for doing these wonderful videos. Such a great help
What do mean “you’re no good at these videos” … you’re style of teaching and demonstrating is perfect, for me at least. Can’t thank you enough. Loved this Part 2 of trees and Part 1 on trees too … the more you can teach us on trees the better. 🌳🌲
For me, you come across as a natural teacher, and your tutorials are refreshing. They're focused on the actual techniques and not based on the implications that if you use a certain paper, brush, and/or paints, you're going to be a wonderful watercolor artist. Your tutorials are what I've been searching for. Thank you, and I hope you don't change your tutorials too much.
That evergreen is amazing! I can 'see' the 3 sides. It's just comes right off the page.
Thank you, really helped me. I love your tutorials. Have a wonderful day 😀
Your tutorials are absolutely clear and easy to understand. I have to say that you are the quintessential English gentleman...my favourite RUclips pomgolian !
Just found you channel. I love your content. Instead of a tutorial, you teach actual technique and how to think like an artist. Excellent! I really appreciate your work. Thank you!
34:20 I like to play with watercolor & your videos gave me new insight. 😊
I have not found any tutorials that come close to yours. Thank you for taking time to share your knowledge with us. What a blessing! What a beautiful area you live in!
I have been eagerly awaiting this new video! Thank you Oliver for such helpful advice. Your tuition on watercolour landscape painting is the best I have ever seen!
Marvelous Lesson, the trees are alive
Добрый день Oliver!
Спасибо за видео!
Мне очень понравилась Ваша техника.
Thank you Oliver, this tutorial has given me lots to work with. I'm new to watercolour and I find your videos so helpful and inspirational.
Perfect rendition of trees in watercolor
What comes through for me is your passion for our beautiful landscapes which have inspired me to learn to paint rather than just take photos. Your videos have given me some confidence that one day I might be able to capture in paint the mountains and trees I love.
Thank you , you just changed the game in 10 min , i cant believe how much better i got from your clear easy steps , thank you
Oliver, You are my 'go to artist' when I need some insight into a problem. Your advice about painting trees has been a revelation. Thank you.
I look forward to seeing more. 🙋
Hi Oliver, thank you so much for this knowledge packed tutorial, I enjoyed every minute of it. I know you said you aren't fond of painting summer trees, but that was my favourite bit, you did them so beautifully! x
You are excellent at these videos! You have a prime spot in my living room practically every day! Hello from Florida
Thanks so much Oliver. I'm from Chile, South America. I've learnt a lot with your tutorials. You are a really excellent teacher.
So useful and fresh
Thank you from Canada
Perfect rendition of trees in watercolor….
Thank you, Oliver! You provide exactly the information I need right now. Hope you will share much more knowledge and skills on You Tube! Your passion for the landscape and watercolour painting is very inspiring!
Fabulous as usual detailing style
You are wonderful teacher,,,,
Terrific tutorial!
I think you're very good at sharing at your ideas and teaching. Many Thanks.
Оливер! отличный урок! Буду следить за твоими выпусками
Found your channel by chance, and by God, it's the best thing that happened to me. I have started painting now at the age of 68. I am from Pakistan and was visiting my daughter in England last winter, I was fascinated by the structure of deciduous trees everywhere. Looking at your videos, I can totally relate to what you are teaching. Love the way you teach. I am going to paint those trees from some of the many photographs I took. Thank you, Oliver. God bless you.
Can't wait to get home after work to try these techniques. So happy I found Oliver Pyle. Love these trees!
I am very impressed with your techniques & methods they are very easy to follow thank you you have given me a much better understanding
Painting of wet on wet & wet on dry & using the blending of colours I’m from New Zealand
Watching again after I practiced the trees in the first video. I’m learning a lot.
Thanks for offering this great content! Your tutorials have helped me create better pieces and have more fun doing it.
Hello Oliver, congratulations on your tutorials. The best thing is your delivery, it's more like a quiet narration then a teachery type style and the pace is really good not too much info too quickly. I have all the tools to paint watercolour but got far too bogged down trying to absorb the information on the other tutorials and frustration got the better of me. I am feeling inspired after watching your video's and ready to have another go ! Thank you, Eve
I have always thought that same thing about trees in winter!
Muy bueno, Oliver.
He visto de seguido tus dos vídeos dedicados a los árboles (parte I y parte II) y me han encantado: contenidos de calidad y didácticos.
Muchas gracias.
Roberto
When you were saying about people asking about what colours you use, I was thinking the same. Maybe just saying the colour as you get it out to mix - no explaining what your doing, just sometimes saying the colour. An oil painter I follow does this, so that’s where I got the idea from. You did it once or twice in this video, something like: I putting some shadow in now… ultramarine and cadmium red … But equally, not necessary either! I have learnt more than I ever have through your videos about a medium I have loved since I was 5 or 6 but never got the hang of. Love your approach and step by step explanation.
Invaluable advice on trees thank you very much, I like that I can see the colour palette and how you vary shades etc.
Excellent video!
So very helpful. Thanks!
I appreciate your saying that some of it is hard. When teaches act like its magic, a struggling student feels like they are stupid for not being able to do it right away. I have been doing art for more years than I want to name, and I still have trouble painting with watercolor. I can do it with a pencil, but watercolor is hard. You are doing good videos. Don't doubt that.
Your videos are great, easy to follow and not complicated. Thanks Oliver.
An incredibly useful video. Beautiful too. Thank you.
Thanks for a straight forward understandable tutorial. I am remembered to choosing the most appropriate brush for the job, namely, the rigger. Trees can be a challenge like life drawing only they're covered with leaves.
Many thanks for the tutorial, Oliver! Very useful and practical. Thanks and keep going!
Your teaching style is just Awesome Oliver! This particular tutorial on painting trees is great! Thank you !!
