Admiral Nelson also has a castle in Bronte Sicily called Nelson Castle or Nelson Dukedom given to him by Queen Margerhita of Spain.. A former 17th century abbey. He never lived in it. The Italian gov took over the castle, I wish they would restore it. One of the Dukes gave the surrounding lands to farmers. My family was one of those who inherited the land.

Great deal of cooking in basement. Bread kiln, meat hooks, root cellar, well and a cook fireplace. Kept the heat down and it was cooler.

The most recent owner had allowed various films shot there including "28 Days', 'Sense and Sensibility' , and 'Amazing Grace' as per Wiki. Also a place for board retreat meetings. Hopefully the restoration of the entire building goes smoothly. In the cellar, brick the stone stairs have ramped edges for probably beer or wine barrels to roll on. At least the roof seems to be intact (in contrast to the old Widener Estate outside of Philadelphia where the neglected roof has allowed rain and snow in for 60 years.). I am sure a lot of volunteers would be happy to help out with the small bits (and leave the intricate plastering, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, structural, masonry, etc..to the profressionals.) It is a massive project given all the rooms. Hopefully one day it can be turned into a complete home, and events/conference center, or an exclusive B&B for Royal Navy and Marines families. The surrounding countryside of ancient Standlynch is brilliant and lush. That music room (painted by Cipriani) is very elegant. England needs more professional restorers and should push for better support and tax breaks. IT careers get boring quick.

Lord Nelson didn't live there, it was bought after the battle by the Crown and presented to his brother with an annual pension of £9,000 (a lot then !) It is Grade 1 listed so I hope it will be sympathetically restored and wasn't just bought by an Oligarch or similar on a whim. It would be interesting to know who owns it now.

Me to. This video inspired me to look into the ownership of that property. I came across other videos of explorers that had gone through Trafalgar Park and were contacted by the Police. HOW RIDICULOUS! The owners are just trying to cover their backs for allowing a GRADE I property to sink into the shape it has. I have discovered that the current owners live in the South WIng and have just allowed the rest of the property to disinagrate. According to other videos I have seen about this property it has now been sealed and secured. WHICH it should have been done in the first place. The House is associated with Lord Nelson, whom is on the same level as The Duke of Marlborough and the Duke of Wellington. Both of those men's homes are attractions because of the honor they brought to the United KIngdom. If the current owner can not afford it then they should look at sellling to the National Trust and not fussing when people access a home that should be a museum. to Lord Nelson. That house will always be associeted with Horatio Nelson as Blenheim Palace is with the Duke of Marlborough. The current owners are simple custodians of a property that is bigger then them. I wish someone would start a Friends of Trafalgar Park and try and get the Princes Tust involved to preserve the home that was designed to preserve the memory of Lord Nelson.

bautiful house , I think Rays paranoia was through the roof ,,,,,lol
The historic home, built in 1733 and originally known as Standlynch Park, was acquired by Act of Parliament and given to Nelson's family to commemorate the Battle of Trafalgar victory of 1805.
Aside from its architecture, the property's most impressive feature is perhaps the Music Room. The walls are hand-painted by 18th century Italian painter, Giovanni Battista Cipriani.

What an amazing building and a piece of History I’ve never clapped eye’s on before. The interior’s albeit a little tired we’re not that dilapidated and those vista’s were breathtaking, without so much as a hint of a peasant where ever the horizon.
Let’s hope that the refurbishment doe’s it the justice it deserves and to think there are those who would look to demolish this man’s legacy and by that I mean the braking up of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, for his sacrifice at Trafalgar put this Nation, Head and Shoulders above all those who would otherwise do us harm and for 100 year’s thereafter, we shone.
Now jitteriness lads, is an affliction best left at home with her indoors. Excellent adventure, beating that will take some effort, good luck and be safe.

An amazing piece of history. I wonder why the National Trust has not taken it over.... Anyone?

Clearly it wasn't abandoned, but undergoing restoration work. Even the fence they hoped was made out of new wood. Basically, they broke into the place.

Hi I am new to your channel and loved this explore- I have liked and subscribed!😆
The part where you quickly ran down to see with the stairs going down and a “well “ would most likely have been an ice store . You actually commented that it was nice and cool there ! The well was obviously for drainage of the room! Each side of the stairs was a ramp which would have allowed the person collecting the ice to have a wheeled cart - very clever design! These ice houses were generally housed outside underground! What an absolute incredible explore, thanks for sharing!

Joolz guides of London had mentioned in his video series near the regency canal (?) that there was a big ice warehouse from which they would store ice shipped down from Iceland so it would still be ready to use in summer. Perhaps that is where that ice was distributed from but I don't know. (we have it so easy now with instant ice makers and such)

Nelson was hardly a hero of the people. He was a guardian of the Drug & Slave shipping routes, and I think they still feel they owe him something.
Things that you're unlikely to see on UKCN !!!

You would think that England should honor lord Nelson’s home,
after all he did for his country. England has allowed the Nelson family home to fall into disrepair. It would be a great tourist attraction. It is a truly sad sight

    • @michaelpatterson5811
      @michaelpatterson5811 Год назад +1

Firstly, Patricia, it was never Nelson's home - sorry if you were misled by the video. It is just one of many property investments purchased years after his death, by his elder brother, Rev. William Nelson, who received the benefit of of all the pensions and other payments that a grateful country bestowed upon Horatio both before and after his death. Nor is the house in disrepair. It's called Trafalgar House, near Downton in the Wiltshire Avon valley, and was undergoing major refurbishment when these local lads broke in to make their video. It's now on the market, for sale, fully refurbished, through Strutt & Parker, if you'd like to make an offer! 😇 If you are interested in Nelson's story, we are having a good exchange at the top of this thread. Best wishes, Michael.
