    My grandfather introduced me to flying RC planes in the 90s. I mastered the Midwest Aerostar 40 trainer we built together. We then donated that to the club for future youth, and built me a Super Sportster 40 with an Irvine .46. That engine was an absolute SCREAMER! It was one of the faster planes at the field(aside from the "Super Hots" the advanced guys were experimenting in "3D Flight" with). I was getting pretty good with the low wing and how nimble it could be. Stringing together rolls, loops, knife-edges, etc... He took it up one morning and had a dead stick while inverted 5' from the ground. It was reduced to monokote and powder. He and another member insisted that I fly their plane that I'd never flown the likes of before. No ailerons, just elevator and rudder. It was neat learning how different it handled. It was slow and graceful... until it rolled over on it's back and shot straight down into the forest on the other side of the field. Someone on the same channel broke the cardinal rule and turned on their radio without checking the flag box.(this was before modern transmitter technology) We sold the Irvine .46 for a used Super Tiger 40. I lost the heart to go through all that again. His health faded, he passed and I haven't flown since. I think about getting back into it from time to time.

      Hey thanks for checking in Rodger, glad you liked it!!! Yeah, Mike is really an old hand with these old nitro birds; like you he's been around the hobby for a little bit! And to be able to capture that great old Sportster at Bennett is just priceless. Even though that video was shot a while ago (Memorial day weekend a couple of years ago actually!), Mike still has that Sportster and flies it quite regularly. More videos coming up from Rabbit...I'll probably get Brent's Bearcat up in a few days. Wishing you all the best and I hope you are feeling well and have a great Memorial day weekend!

    Ahh, brings back memories. My very first plane (kit build) was the Super Sportster 40 in that same scheme, 1990. Sadly it only lasted two flight - not a good trainer choice, ha.

    I really like those Red Bull Air Race planes(pylon). You could call this one a modern day vintage Red Baron (it would just need some guns). The motor sounds unique, exhaust I guess. Nice one 👌😎 AirHammer out!!

    The tittle states it’s a 60, but it looks like a 40 size! I have two of them one with an Saito four stroke 72B and the second one with. An OS 46 two stroke. The one with the OS is a rocket 🚀

      Hey Glen, thanks for checking in with the memories! I was just going off what the owner said, and when I looked it up online, the 60 size seemed to have a similar color scheme. In any event, this sure is a fun old plane! Cheers and all the best to you my friend 😎👍!

      @@JustwingitRC Hi, Happy New Year too :)
      The reason for my question, is that I'm building my own electric plane, but want it to be close to a nitro plane in character so it can handle stronger winds. I guess it is simply a case of make it heavy, powerful and large control surfaces.
      Many thanks again, take care, Simon

    • @JustwingitRC
      @JustwingitRC  2 года назад +1

      @@simoncorser8083 That sounds great Simon! Many folks build these as electrics; as long as you have a 100 watts per pound or better power system in there, I'm sure she'll fly wonderfully! Cheers!

    I miss my super sportster 40 with a OS 46 FX in a 10 x 8 prop master air screw I had that aircraft for 12 years until one time I was flying with a friend I leaned over to tell him I’m gonna bring it in when I looked up the plane was 100 yards to my right and crash in a big pile of nothing. 🥲
